Chapter 680: Chapter 680: The Hottest Child Star!

And just like that, Lin Feng found himself an investor again.

As an investor, Lin Feng was not at all stingy. He immediately had air conditioners installed in the rooms used for shooting so the actors could stay cool while filming. He also added two high-capacity air conditioners to the main studio. Within just two days, the set became much cooler.

He had transformed the film crew’s harsh environment into a much more comfortable one. The director and the others found it so refreshing that they were much more willing to spend time in the studio.

The weather in July and August was brutally hot, and the intense daytime sun made shooting impossible. As a result, filming was done when it cooled down in the late afternoon or evening. But even that wasn’t ideal because of the swarms of mosquitoes.

The film crew had seen it all before, so they quickly set up mosquito coils and insect repellent. Still, despite these measures, Xiao Bao was bitten several times, leaving large, scary-looking welts on her skin.

Lin Feng’s heart ached to see them, and the rest of the crew felt terrible as well. Over the course of their time together, Xiao Bao had become everyone’s little bundle of joy, bringing them happiness every day just by being herself. Although she was born into a wealthy family, she had a wonderful personality and loved playing with everyone.

The director waved his hand magnanimously. "Xiao Bao, you can go home. Let’s call it a night."

Naturally, Lin Feng prioritized his daughter. After he brought Xiao Bao back to the hotel, the little girl said mournfully, "Daddy, I feel so itchy."

Lin Feng quickly applied some ointment to his daughter’s bites. He had mixed the medicine himself, and it was very effective. Later that night, while Xiao Bao was asleep, Lin Feng began concocting a special type of incense.

The next day’s shoot was in a large shed. After getting to know the crew, Lin Feng’s new routine was to drop Xiao Bao off at the set and then head back to cook lunch. He used the hotel’s back kitchen, always waiting until after nine o’clock to avoid getting in the chefs’ way. Once the food was ready, he would bring it back to their room, then go pick up his daughter before filming resumed in the afternoon.

For the evening shoot, Lin Feng rubbed the ointment on Xiao Bao’s skin and lit the incense at the filming location. It worked like a charm. He had made a large batch, keeping some for themselves and giving the rest to the director.

The director treated it like a priceless treasure. With this incense, they no longer had to fear the night shoots.

Watching Xiao Bao act, Lin Feng simply felt that his daughter did a great job, but he didn’t get the sense that she possessed some extraordinary talent. The director, on the other hand, lavished her with praise, saying she was a natural-born star whose acting was even better than he had anticipated.

Filming went from mid-July to mid-August. In that month, Xiao Bao lost a noticeable amount of weight. The combination of the heat and the hard work had caused her to lose her appetite. The slimmer Xiao Bao, however, fit the character description from the original novel even more perfectly.

Their film set wasn’t too far from Jingcheng. One day, Da Bao and Si Bao showed up without any warning. Xiao Bao’s feet went pitter-patter as she ran towards them, exclaiming, "Eldest Brother, Fourth Brother!"

The crew turned to look and saw a poised and handsome young man with a scholarly, elegant air striding into the studio. Beside him was another young man who was sunny and handsome, with bright white teeth and a dazzling smile.

"Wow, they’re so handsome!"

"Good heavens, would you believe they’re his sons? I wouldn’t. He looks way too young to be their father."

"Both of them are so good-looking. I heard all four of their family’s children are exceptional!"

"I wonder if they have girlfriends... sigh, what am I even thinking..."

Si Bao immediately scooped Xiao Bao into his arms. "Whoa, you’ve lost weight!"

Xiao Bao frowned. "Put me down! I don’t want you to hold me. You smell stinky."

Si Bao then remembered he’d had a cigarette earlier. He hastily set Xiao Bao down and smiled sheepishly.

Da Bao crouched down, intending to fix her little pigtails, but Xiao Bao dodged away. "The director wants them like this."

Da Bao chuckled. "Are you tired? Is it hard work?"

Others might have found acting to be a grueling job, but Xiao Bao just thought it was fun. She shook her head. "Not tired at all!"

Lin Feng asked his two sons, "What brings you two here?"

Da Bao smiled. "We had some business to take care of nearby and happened to be passing through. We’ll stay for one night and leave tomorrow."

Si Bao added, "My training just ended, so I came along to see you and Xiao Bao."

"Have you eaten?" Lin Feng asked.

"We grabbed a bite after we arrived," Da Bao said.

Seeing that their reunion was winding down, the director came over to get Xiao Bao for the next scene.

Xiao Bao waved to her brothers. "Wait for me to finish, okay? You have to wait for me!"

"Okay, we’ll all wait for you!" Da Bao waved back.

As filming resumed, Si Bao started recording with his phone, saying proudly, "Even dressed as a little beggar, Xiao Bao is super cute!"

Da Bao found a chair and sat down. "Dad, how have you been?"

Lin Feng smiled. "Same old, same old. How about you?"

Da Bao smiled back. "Me too. Nothing’s changed."

His dad, though, hadn’t changed a bit over all these years. He still looked so young; it was a mystery how he maintained it.

Lin Feng took two large, cooling oranges from his pocket. "Here, eat these."

Si Bao was more considerate now and knew not to grab food. "Dad, save these for you and Xiao Bao."

Da Bao didn’t reach for them either. "Dad, you and Xiao Bao eat them."

In June of that year, Da Bao had become the chief strategist for a major project, and his future was boundless. His hair, however, might be more limited. Lin Feng beckoned his son closer. "Let me see. Are you going bald?"

Da Bao leaned his head forward, startled. "No way."

Lin Feng took a look. "Hmm, it might just be your hairstyle. You’re not bald."

A crack finally appeared in Da Bao’s serious expression. "Dad, you almost scared me to death! You’re not bald, so I definitely can’t be!"

Lin Feng paused, looking at his son with a hint of sympathy. He had no idea if his son would go bald, but he was certain he never would. Thanks to the system, it was impossible!

Lin Feng had heard that overthinking causes significant hair loss. He patted his son on the shoulder. "You’ll have to work hard to keep from going bald, then."

Why is Dad acting so strange? Da Bao thought, but he replied earnestly, "I’ll do my best!"

Si Bao, who was standing nearby, burst out laughing. "Are you two trying to kill me with laughter?"

Once Xiao Bao finished filming for the day, Lin Feng took her back to the hotel. After he got her cleaned up, she was as pretty as a picture again.

Seeing how much weight Xiao Bao had lost, Si Bao asked, "How much longer do you have to film?"

Xiao Bao smiled brightly. "Almost done! I wrap up in one week."

She was only playing the childhood version of the character. Her role wasn’t large, but it was crucial. The character’s youth and middle-aged phases were portrayed by different actors, which avoided the awkwardness of having someone pretend to be younger than they were.

Xiao Bao hadn’t taken on many acting roles, but she was always a hot topic. Firstly, her acting was top-notch. Secondly, her family background was impeccable. And thirdly, she was naturally likable without needing to manufacture a persona.

She had "mom fans," "sister-in-law fans," "big brother fans," "dad fans," and even "prospective father-in-law and mother-in-law fans."

Wherever she went, she was the center of conversation. She was the hottest child star in the entertainment industry, bar none.
