My College Teacher is My Children's Mom-Chapter 678: Results Don’t Mean Everything
「The next morning.」
Zhang Yuxi looked incredibly sullen.
Er Bao quietly asked her dad, "Dad, are you and Mom still fighting?"
Lin Feng was puzzled. "No, your mom and I made up last night."
Hearing this, Er Bao was confused. "Then why is Mom still making that face? Did something bad happen?"
Lin Feng was even more bewildered. "How would I know? Everything was fine last night."
Er Bao shrugged, unable to get a clear answer. Judging by her dad’s expression, he really didn’t know.
Because Zhang Yuxi kept a stern face, all the children, including Xiao Bao, were on their best behavior. Lin Feng felt this couldn’t go on. He decided to have Sanbao take Xiao Bao to school so he could have a proper talk with Zhang Yuxi after the children left.
Lin Feng sighed and asked, "What’s wrong?"
Zhang Yuxi tilted her head up, looking aggrieved. "Do you find me annoying?"
Lin Feng shook his head. "No, you’re misunderstanding me again. I just want to know why you’re upset."
Zhang Yuxi looked at Lin Feng with a wronged expression but didn’t say a word.
What does that mean? Lin Feng wondered.
He wracked his brain. He hadn’t done anything to make his wife angry last night. Could he have stolen her blanket in the middle of the night? No, that couldn’t be it. He was a very still sleeper; that kind of thing never happened.
Zhang Yuxi said pitifully, "I dreamed you cheated on me..."
"And then?" Lin Feng asked.
Zhang Yuxi pursed her lips. "The feeling in the dream was so real. I felt so sad, so heartbroken."
Zhang Yuxi rarely had such dreams. Last night’s feeling had been too real, and when she thought about it this morning, she cried out of sheer grievance. But it was just a dream, not real, she told herself. She was a grown woman, after all. There was no need to be as petty as a young girl, but she just couldn’t help it.
Lin Feng comforted her, saying it was just a dream. She knew that, but she still argued, "What if it were true?"
Lin Feng was struck speechless for a moment. "How could it be? You’re more than enough for me."
Zhang Yuxi was unconvinced. "You’re lying. You men always have wandering eyes."
Seeing that Zhang Yuxi didn’t believe him, Lin Feng sighed helplessly. "If you’re going to insist on that, what can I say?"
Zhang Yuxi’s sense of grievance flared up. "So you think I’m being annoying and unreasonable now?"
Lin Feng answered honestly, "I don’t find you annoying, but you are being a bit unreasonable. It was just a dream. There’s really no need to take it so seriously."
Zhang Yuxi was hurt. "Then why aren’t you comforting me?"
She truly felt miserable. The sensation of being abandoned by him in the dream had been too vivid, so real it scared her.
Lin Feng pulled her into his arms, soothing her softly. "Alright, alright, let’s not be upset. Darling, I love you the most. I’ll only love you for my entire life!"
"It’s just a dream, we don’t have to take it to heart. Be a good girl, okay?"
After being comforted for a while, Zhang Yuxi felt much better. Once her mood stabilized, she felt embarrassed.
Lin Feng teased her, "Not feeling wronged anymore?"
Zhang Yuxi hummed and hawed without speaking. Lin Feng smiled. "The long face you were pulling earlier really scared the kids..."
Zhang Yuxi pouted. "So it’s my fault? Weren’t you the one who bullied me in the dream?"
Lin Feng couldn’t help but laugh. "Yes, yes, my fault. It’s all my fault in the end, alright? Are you going to work today?"
"I can go in a bit later today," Zhang Yuxi said. "I’ll go get ready now."
With that, Zhang Yuxi went back to her room.
July was just around the corner, which meant summer vacation was about to start. With only another week or so of school left, the children would be free, so exams were scheduled for the next few days.
Lin Feng had Sanbao review with Xiao Bao, checking for any gaps in her knowledge.
About two hours passed, but Xiao Bao didn’t come downstairs. Sanbao eventually came down with a helpless look on her face to grab some fruit.
Lin Feng asked, "How’s it going?"
Sanbao sighed. "This isn’t just plugging leaks; this is a monumental task like Nuwa patching the sky."
Everyone laughed at her comment. Then, Lin Feng started to worry. "Well, do your best. The exam is in just a few days."
Resigned to her fate, Sanbao went back upstairs to tutor Xiao Bao. Er Bao stood up, offering to go help.
Lin Feng stopped her. "Are you just going to add to the crowd? Xiao Bao can’t understand you when you teach. She says you just rattle on and on, and it gives her a headache."
Er Bao’s face filled with shock. "Really? Did Xiao Bao really say that?"
Lin Feng hummed in affirmation. "Your pace is just too fast. She hasn’t even figured out one problem before you’ve already moved on to the next."
Er Bao looked hurt. "That’s harsh. Is that my fault? It’s because she’s a little dummy."
Lin Feng reminded her, "Be careful. Xiao Bao will get mad at you if she hears that."
Er Bao looked unfazed. "What’s there to be mad about? She admits she’s slow herself. It’s not like I’m the first one to say it."
Lin Feng was speechless.
Er Bao grumbled to herself. From upstairs, Sanbao called down to console her. "Xiao Bao is slow-paced. She can’t keep up when you teach." 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
Then, she added in a low voice, "It’s not easy for Xiao Bao either, so don’t be mad."
Hearing "It’s not easy for Xiao Bao either" made most of Er Bao’s anger melt away. With a grand wave of her hand, she said, "Forget it. I’m the bigger person here; no need to bicker with a child."
It really is hard for Xiao Bao, though. If she can’t even do first-grade problems, what will she do later on?
Er Bao started to worry. "Sanbao, from now on, you tutor Xiao Bao. If she’s struggling with first-grade work, it’s only going to get harder."
Sanbao nodded. "During summer break, I’ll have her review everything thoroughly. We’ll go over the first semester of second-grade material as well."
See? This was why I don’t have to worry about Xiao Bao’s grades, Lin Feng thought.
He knew that the quadruplets were all top students, so there was no need to worry. Xiao Bao’s academic performance would be handled.
After the review session, Xiao Bao came pattering downstairs. "Daddy, I want some chips too!"
A tired-looking Sanbao followed her.
After getting the chips, Xiao Bao offered one to Sanbao. "Thank you for your hard work, Third Sister!"
Sanbao felt a little comforted and managed a smile. "Was it hard for you?"
Xiao Bao blinked her adorable, big eyes. "Not at all!"
「In early July.」
Their exams began. In two days, parents would go to the school for the parent-teacher conference and to pick up the report cards.
「Two days later.」
Lin Feng looked at the test paper with a score in the nineties and felt quite satisfied.
"In this exam, most of our students received full marks," the teacher announced. "Only a few students scored in the nineties."
"I hope those students who scored in the nineties will continue to strive for improvement!"
Lin Feng was left speechless.
But his outlook remained positive. Given their family’s current financial situation, it wouldn’t be a problem even if Xiao Bao never worked a day in her life.
That’s the worst-case scenario, of course. Xiao Bao certainly isn’t that bad off!
Xiao Bao’s desk-mate’s father had also come to the conference. According to Xiao Bao, this girl was her best friend—the very one who had given her the doll.
The father glanced at his daughter’s paper and looked very pleased. Lin Feng had met him before, so the man glanced over at Xiao Bao’s test paper.
"Grades don’t mean everything."
"And they certainly can’t be used to measure a child’s entire life!"
Lin Feng smiled faintly. "That’s exactly what I think."
