My College Teacher is My Children's Mom-Chapter 675: The Kind Little Bao
「Three days later.」
Er Bao gave the repaired doll to Xiao Bao. "Look, it’s fixed."
It wasn’t so much fixed as cleverly mended. Er Bao had stitched the doll’s tears shut and embroidered over the seams with flowers, making them look like tattoos. With her artful touch, it looked even better than before. Xiao Bao was ecstatic. "Thank you, Er Bao! You’re the best!"
Thrilled to have her toy back, Xiao Bao clung to it and even took it to school.
The next afternoon, when Lin Feng went to pick up the children, he noticed the doll wasn’t in Xiao Bao’s hands. Assuming it was in her backpack, he didn’t think much of it.
That night, while supervising Xiao Bao’s homework, Lin Feng casually checked her backpack. Only then did he realize the toy wasn’t there either. "Xiao Bao, where’s your doll?"
Without looking up, Xiao Bao said, "I gave it to my deskmate."
Lin Feng was flabbergasted. "You gave it to your deskmate? But... you loved it so much! You were okay with giving it away?"
Xiao Bao simply hummed in agreement. "She’s my best friend, so I gave it to her."
Lin Feng was speechless.
The toy belonged to his daughter, so what she did with it was her business. Still, Lin Feng was surprised by her generosity.
Xiao Bao clearly hadn’t dwelled on the matter, as she soon asked Er Bao to buy her a new toy.
"What about the one you had before?" Er Bao asked.
"I gave it to my deskmate!" Xiao Bao replied.
"Okay," Er Bao smiled. "I’ll call a friend to buy you another one. What style do you want?"
Xiao Bao grinned. "I want a cute one, just like me!"
San Bao, who was listening nearby, curiously asked, "Why did you give it to your deskmate? Did she ask you for it?"
It wasn’t that San Bao was being pessimistic; children these days could be quite cunning.
Xiao Bao shook her head, her innocent expression telling the whole story. "I gave her the toy because she doesn’t have a mom."
A child’s logic is simple. When Xiao Bao learned her deskmate’s mother had died from an illness, she felt sorry for her and generously gave her the doll.
Upon hearing this, Er Bao and San Bao fell silent for a few seconds before pulling Xiao Bao into a hug.
"You did the right thing, Xiao Bao. That was great of you!" San Bao had always been the gentle one.
Xiao Bao giggled. "She told me not to tell anyone else, or they would make fun of her."
Even without meeting her, Er Bao and San Bao couldn’t help but feel a pang of sympathy for such a sensitive child.
Lin Feng later learned the full story from Er Bao. He was surprised, but also relieved. Although Xiao Bao was usually mischievous, she was a good child at heart.
The school year began in March, and before they knew it, it was the end of May.
Within those three months, San Bao’s studio officially launched online. For now, its members consisted of only her and four staff.
Er Bao felt a little sorry for her. "Don’t you want to hire more people? It must be lonely working by yourself."
But San Bao just said, "Not at all. I have ten songs to compose right now."
She was a very busy woman!
Er Bao smiled. "Alright, then. Forget I said anything!"
Also at the end of May, an entertainment company approached Xiao Bao, wanting her to shoot a promotional video for Children’s Day. It was a public service announcement, so there was no payment; all proceeds would be donated to charity. 𝒇𝒓𝙚𝒆𝔀𝓮𝓫𝒏𝓸𝙫𝓮𝓵.𝓬𝙤𝙢
Xiao Bao readily agreed. Having acted in movies, filmed commercials, and seen a bit of the world, a short promotional video was no challenge for her. The Children’s Day PSA featured many child stars, as well as several currently popular actors.
Once the holiday break started, Er Bao and San Bao were both swamped. San Bao spent her days in the recording studio composing her ten songs, leaving early and returning late.
Lin Feng took his daughter to the shoot. The trip would take three days in total—a day of travel there, a day of shooting, and a day to travel back. During this time, Er Bao and San Bao took turns cooking at home. If they didn’t, Zhang Yuxi would practically starve; she had grown unaccustomed to eating out.
Xiao Bao had her own small travel bag packed with her personal items, which included the charging cable for her watch phone, tissues, a water bottle, and some toys. Lin Feng carried a larger bag that held Xiao Bao’s makeup, clothes, and other necessities. The other was for Lin Feng’s own things. Since he had his spatial storage, he’d actually packed quite a lot inside it.
Lin Feng took a car with his daughter to the filming location. Don’t let her age fool you. Though only six or seven, Xiao Bao was a little celebrity who had already played a leading role. She had quite an aura about her. Dressed for summer in an oversized T-shirt, a baseball cap, and pink sunglasses, she looked like a fashionable and energetic little girl.
The hotel was already arranged. They went straight there after landing to rest up before the next day’s shoot. It was quite nice, with parent-child suites of various sizes. After Lin Feng unpacked their luggage, he took his daughter out for dinner.
"Daddy, what’s this? I want to eat it."
"Wow, Dad, look! This looks delicious, I want to try it..."
"Can we buy this to take back for Mom and my sisters and brothers?"
In short, Lin Feng’s job was simply to follow behind, paying for things, carrying the bags, and reminding her to watch where she was going and not to run off.
Around 8:00 p.m., a staff member brought over the script for her to memorize. Xiao Bao had a good memory. After running through her lines with Lin Feng a few times, she knew them by heart. She then yawned and went to sleep.
The next morning at 7:00 a.m., staff would arrive to do Xiao Bao’s makeup before taking her to the photo studio. Xiao Bao had gone to bed late and was a bit cranky from being woken up. She sat in the chair, head drooping as she periodically nodded off.
"Use this," Lin Feng said, taking out Xiao Bao’s makeup.
The makeup artist saw the logo and recognized the brand instantly. While laypeople might not have heard of it, it was well-known among industry insiders. It was a high-end custom skincare brand that formulated products based on an individual’s specific skin type. Many celebrities in the country used it.
A child’s skin is naturally good, so the makeup was finished in a few quick strokes. The hairstyling was simple as well. Xiao Bao used to have short hair but had been growing it out for over a year for filming. The stylist coiffed her long hair into a stylish updo in less than ten minutes.
Lin Feng had always thought a topknot was simple, but the one this stylist created was secured firmly on her head, unlike his attempts, which would fall apart after a bit of shaking.
Next, it was time to change clothes. As it was for a Children’s Day PSA, the outfit was colorful and festive.
They followed the staff’s car to the photo studio. It was sweltering inside; a wave of heat hit them the moment they walked in.
Lin Feng’s brow furrowed, and Xiao Bao muttered, "It’s so hot in here!"
A staff member explained apologetically, "Because this is a public service announcement, we don’t have any investors. We’re funding it ourselves."
What they didn’t mention was that it had taken a Herculean effort to find these few people willing to participate without pay.
Including Xiao Bao, there were six children in total, along with three adults. Of the other five children, some were complete amateurs, while others had minor, uncredited roles in TV shows. Lin Feng recognized some of the three adults. They were young, up-and-coming actors, but not yet famous.
