My College Teacher is My Children's Mom-Chapter 639: Straight Female Wife
Little Treasure was quite vain.
For one, she was a girl, and a love for beauty is only natural. For another, the constant rainbow of compliments from her three older siblings at home had inflated her confidence, making her feel absolutely gorgeous!
In terms of looks, she was vastly different from Second Treasure and Third Treasure at her age. At that age, Second Treasure’s and Third Treasure’s looks were considered unrivaled among their peers. Little Treasure, however, was chubby and adorable—a very likable type. Her facial features were delicate, and it was believed that once she slimmed down, she would definitely be a stunning beauty, but that was still a long way off.
Whenever Little Treasure thought about her classmates with their missing front teeth and then looked at herself, she grew sad.
The makeup artist came over and was startled. "What’s wrong? Did something scare you just now?"
Lin Feng shook his head with a wry smile. "She just discovered she’s starting to lose her baby teeth. She’s heartbroken about it."
The makeup artist murmured an "oh" and joined the comforting committee. "Losing your baby teeth is a necessary process. The adult teeth that come in will be stronger and healthier. You should be happy about it."
Little Treasure mumbled, "But it looks so ugly..."
The makeup artist laughed. "Then why don’t you wear a mask and speak less? Wouldn’t that be fine?"
This head-in-the-sand approach seemed perfectly viable to Little Treasure, and she decided it was worth a try.
The makeup artist came over to remove her makeup. "We’re also filming tonight, so you can keep this look for now."
Little Treasure nodded silently. The makeup artist went on to praise her excellent performance, adding that even the notoriously demanding head director had complimented her, but Little Treasure only nodded again.
Lin Feng took her back to the hotel, and Little Treasure couldn’t wait to call Zhang Yuxi. Lin Feng told her to call later in the evening, as her mother was probably still sleeping. But the call had already connected.
Little Treasure said considerately, "Sorry, Mom, I accidentally misdialed. You should go back to sleep!"
Zhang Yuxi, who had grown used to having Lin Feng by her side, hadn’t been sleeping well at night. She yawned. "It’s alright, I’m already awake! Have you got time to chat with me for a bit?"
Little Treasure hesitated, looking at Lin Feng.
Lin Feng nodded slightly. "Five minutes."
Little Treasure hurriedly told Zhang Yuxi about her loose tooth. "Mom, what do I do? I’m going to look so ugly!"
"What can you do? Losing your baby teeth is a process everyone goes through. It’s unchangeable." The ever-blunt Zhang Yuxi added, "Since we can’t change it, we just have to adapt to it. It will grow back slowly after it falls out."
Little Treasure responded with a low-spirited "oh."
Lin Feng heard the entire conversation between mother and daughter. He shook his head slightly from the side. His wife could be so blunt sometimes.
Zhang Yuxi then inquired about Little Treasure’s daily diet and routine. Little Treasure answered each question, and even mentioned how she nailed a one-take shot today, earning the director’s praise.
Zhang Yuxi praised her, "That’s brilliant, Little Treasure! I’m so proud of you!"
But when she learned that Little Treasure had choked on a dry steamed bun, her tone suddenly turned grave. "Little Treasure, I support your interests and I recognize your hard work," Zhang Yuxi began, her tone stern. "But I need you to take care of yourself. Acting is important, but you are a treasure to your father and me, and to your older siblings. Do you understand? If you ever feel unwell or have any ideas, you can talk to your father, or you can talk to the director!"
Little Treasure listened with her head hung low as her mother rattled on.
Finally, Zhang Yuxi asked in a sharp voice, "Did you hear everything I just said?"
Little Treasure nodded. "I heard you, Mom. I’ll take good care of myself!"
Hearing her daughter’s promise, Zhang Yuxi’s tone softened slightly. "Is your father there? Let me talk to him for a moment."
Lin Feng took the phone and gestured for Little Treasure to go take a nap in the smaller bedroom. They were in a family suite, which had a secondary bedroom for a child.
Little Treasure headed off to sleep. "I’m going for my nap now, Mom. Bye!"
Zhang Yuxi said, "Sleep well, sweetie. Your sisters and I will be waiting for you and your father to come home!"
Once Little Treasure was asleep, Lin Feng closed her bedroom door and stepped out onto the balcony.
"Honey, what did you have for dinner?"
"Second Treasure made dinner. We had Mi Fan, shredded pork in garlic sauce, a cold mix of three delicacies, stir-fried tomatoes with eggs, and a light seaweed soup."
Lin Feng chuckled. "Good thing she’s there. Otherwise, how would you manage to eat?"
Zhang Yuxi blushed, a hint of defiance in her voice. "I’d just eat out. It’s not like you’re never coming back, right?"
The couple chatted intimately for a while. Noticing that half an hour had already passed, Lin Feng quickly urged her to sleep. "Okay, that’s enough talk, honey. Go to sleep. You have work tomorrow."
Zhang Yuxi said coquettishly, "But I miss you, darling..."
Lin Feng smiled, his voice turning tender. "I miss you too." He then asked a quiet question, his words laced with a clear hidden meaning.
Zhang Yuxi caught his drift and hastily hung up.
Even though they had been a couple for so many years, with children who had already graduated from college and started their own businesses, Zhang Yuxi still found herself getting shy. Her husband was just too formidable an opponent.
After her nap, Little Treasure ate the afternoon tea Lin Feng had prepared for her and then headed to the studio. She followed the film crew outside. She was thrilled to be filming on location this time. After days stuck inside the stifling studio, she was finally free.
The car drove further and further into a remote area, finally arriving at a forest. Once permission was granted, the car headed into the forest. They proceeded to set up camp. By the time they finished, the sky was growing dark, which was perfect for the shoot.
The area was swarming with mosquitoes, so Lin Feng sprayed Little Treasure from head to toe with a homemade repellent. He also sprinkled some powder on her, which protected against not just mosquitoes but also other venomous insects.
The path for the scene had been swept clean. Here, Little Treasure was supposed to act out an escape. The premise was that a huge monster was chasing her, which would be added in post-production. This required Little Treasure to use her imagination, acting against a non-existent threat.
The on-set director came over to explain the scene to Little Treasure. Little Treasure had a strong grasp of the concept, and the initial take went smoothly. But the director wasn’t satisfied. He said she hadn’t conveyed the necessary sense of desperate horror.
Little Treasure countered, "Why does she have to be desperate? Can’t she be filled with hope?"
"Eugene is already desperate, but her will to live is strong. How can she be completely hopeless all the time?" Little Treasure wasn’t satisfied with that version of Eugene.
The on-set director was slightly taken aback. "Oh? Then how do you think she should act?"
Little Treasure said, as if it were the most obvious thing in the world, "She should fight back! Kill the monster!"
The script wasn’t written like that. In the script, Eugene was supposed to be chased through the forest and eventually escape. Because the monster was so powerful, no fight scene had been planned.
However, the on-set director thought Little Treasure’s suggestion was a good one. If Eugene, with her back against the wall, could find a way to kill the monster, it would not only accelerate her character development but also make her more complex and three-dimensional.
So he decided to halt filming temporarily to discuss it with the head director and get his opinion. Changing the script mid-shoot was not an uncommon occurrence.
Filming was paused, and everyone waited for the on-set director’s instructions.
