Chapter 302: Their City

(Arata)

After a week, we left Marica City. It was time to settle down in Sparia.

"I will keep your room as it is. Come whenever you can," Asbela sadly said, while giving me a hug.

"We will. This is our home. The very first home I lived in was with Karsten. I will always return here," I assured her, squeezing her hands.

Then I turned to face Olphi, who was watching Asbela like a muscular teddy bear in love. "Don’t you dare break my girl’s heart. Take care of her," I instructed and he sheepishly smiled at me before rubbing the back of his bald head.

"Yes, Miss Arata."

"Arata is right. You better big man. We are leaving everything here in your hands." Karsten patted Olphi’s shoulder and he offered a nod.

Hades and Caysir were travelling with us while Olphi was staying behind to take care of Karsten’s affairs and villa here in Marica City.

Bidding them farewell, we got into our car and headed out. I watched this memorable city with a bit of nostalgia.

It had brought me immense pain, and at the same time, I had found the love of my life here.

Karsten’s hand rested peacefully on my thigh as he asked, "You good?"

"Yes, just going through the last six months of my life and what a rollercoaster it had been."

"True, our lives have changed forever." His thumb gently rubbed my leg and I nodded my head.

We reached the airport and boarded Karsten’s private jet to head over to Sparia.

On Camilla’s request and my insistence, we were staying with Karsten’s Ma and Grandma until the baby was born.

Karsten had agreed but he was going to build a house for me so we could start our family.

Morning sickness took over in the plane and I felt dizzy most of the way. I craved orange juice.

"Here!" He handed me a glass of orange goodness and I just sipped slowly in hopes it would go away.

Karsten let me lean against his big shoulder and gently massaged my head.

By the time we reached Sparia, I was on the verge of throwing up.

Without hesitation, Karsten picked me up in his comforting arms and carried me down the plane.

"It’s going to be fine. Just a few minutes and we will be home," he assured me while his jaw became a rigid line.

I hid in his chest trying to fight this nauseating feeling creeping up on me.

"Watch the flowers, Arata. It will help," he softly said, rubbing my back with his rough palm.

I obeyed. Sparia was very old school, with its cobblestone roads and historic architecture.

The spring was in full bloom here. Greenbelts and the sides of the roads were covered with an abundance of flowers. Like an overflowing sea. Refreshing to witness and lifting the mood.

"Your city is beautiful," I murmured, fascinated by how colourful it always was.

"Our city now," he breathed in my ear, making me smile.

"Our city," I whispered back and it felt good to say it.

Soon we arrived outside Camilla’s Villa and Caysir promptly opened the door for us.

Karsten climbed out with me still tucked in his arms.

"I can walk." I tried to wriggle out of his hold but he only tightened his grip on me.

"Not a chance, lady. You are staying in my arms."

I blushed. "What will your mother say?"

He took another step and haughtily answered, "She will be proud."

The wooden door of the villa was opened and Camilla walked out with her arms spread. Her hair was neatly tied, and the flowery dress she wore screamed nothing but perfection.

"¡Bienvenidos, Mis niñas. (Welcome! My children) You are here." But her expression instantly paled seeing me being carried like that. She rushed forward, all traces of happiness wiped from her face.

"What happened? Did Arata hurt herself? You should have been more careful, Karsten. She is pregnant."

I quickly shook my head before Karsten would get more reprimanding. "It’s just morning sickness and Karsten wanted to make a grand entrance."

The smile crept back on Camilla’s lips.

"AH! I have just the tea to cure that. Come come." She ushered us inside and into the living room.

Grandma Martina was seated in her rocking chair with a soft red and gold blanket on her legs.

Her kind face but sharp eyes took us in.

"Hola!" We greeted her as Karsten gently stood me closer to her. I bent down and hugged the older woman.

"How have you been? I have missed you since the last time we met." She pressed her cheek against mine.

"I am good, just some nausea," I shyly said, knowing the older generation was set in their ways and wasn’t sure if she would approve of my pregnancy.

"I understand, child. Camilla will make mint and lemon tea for you. It will help. Come sit with me." She offered me the sofa and I sank into it.

Karsten greeted his Grandma next and she kissed his forehead.

"Moonbeam, my boy has ranked up. I didn’t wish for this life for you, but..." She left the sentence hanging, and I understood what she wanted to say.

Karsten only briefly smiled and asked. "Grandma, how is your health?"

"Ah! These old bones are not getting any younger but don’t worry, this witch is not dying before she plays with your children."

Both of us laughed at her quips, and she joined us, her wrinkled face beaming to see us.

I had kept a stylish cap around my head so she wouldn’t have to see the state of my hair because we hadn’t told her about my kidnapping just like we didn’t with my Grandma. They didn’t need to know of these horrors at their ages when they could do nothing about them.

Our light conversation continued until Camila returned with my tea and the house staff brought cookies, cakes and all kinds of sugary goodness.

"Thank you!" I accepted the cup and Camilla sat down beside me. Even the smell of the refreshing mint and lemon tea made some of the nausea disappear.

"I have booked an appointment with the best gynaecologist of Sparia for you," she informed me, gently placing her hand on my shoulder.

"I appreciate that."

Our conversation flowed into the evening and I immensely enjoyed talking to them both.

But most importantly, I felt comfortable and safe, which mattered the most.

This was going to be my city now.
