Chapter 298: Memories Of That Office

(Arata)

Chan and Miranda were over the moon to see me.

"We missed you, Arata," Miranda hugged me tight followed by Chan.

"I missed you guys too." I focused my attention on Chan and winked. "Look at you, Mr COO."

Chan stood up straight and adjusted his tie while a humble smile covered his lips.

"Seriously, I wasn’t expecting that at all."

I patted his shoulder. "But it’s well deserved."

Miranda nodded at my words and then asked grimly. "We heard rumours about a CEO change."

My lips slowly flattened and I nodded my head at them. Their smiles faded.

"Karsten’s brother will be taking up the position. Don’t worry, we will keep visiting and I am sure he will be a great successor to Karsten," I tried to appease their fears.

"It will be strange to see someone else in Mr Karsten’s position," Miranda added to which Chan vehemently nodded.

We continued our discussion on the matter until Nasia arrived to inform us that Karsten and Rahsir had arrived and an emergency meeting was being called with all the heads of departments. The girl seemed more confident and not on the verge of tears, contrary to how I used to find her previously.

I exited Miranda’s office and headed to the meeting room.

Opening the door, I entered and found Karsten standing alongside Rahsir. His gaze instantly flew towards me and he ushered me forward. He was hiding it but I could comprehend the sense of loss he was experiencing.

My man had loosened his tie and it hung low around his neck.

Moving forward, I went on to hug him and his muscled arm came around me.

"It’s done," he calmly said and I let my lips spread in a smile.

"Congratulations, Rahsir." I extended my hand and he shook it with his free hand, while the other held a drink.

"Thank you! Seriously, I had never expected this honour, but I am very much looking forward to it," he slowly chuckled, "But I will be bothering you guys a lot." His gaze shifted between the two of us.

"Always ready to help you whenever you need."

He took a sip of the drink in his hand and appreciatively nodded at me.

The door opened and Nasia entered again on her long legs. She wore a black pencil skirt contrasted with a white button-down fashioned with a bowtie.

Rahsir turned to look at her and his eyes lingered. She confidently walked up to us and informed, "Everyone has been notified of the meeting, and they will gather shortly."

"Thank you, Miss Hughes. Please! Arrange for refreshments," Karsten spoke kindly and I could see how she appreciated that.

She walked away with a gracious nod.

"She is currently in the secretary position along with Miranda. I will recommend keeping them," Karsten told his brother while rubbing my arm.

Rahsir’s eyes still lingered on Nasia who was now on a call.

"Oh! I am planning to."

I had to bite my lip and not smile at his not very discreet way of checking her out.

"For work reasons or other," Karsten teased, sensing the same thing as I was.

"You are one to say that." I squeezed Karsten’s arm and was reminded of my time with him.

Both men turned to stare at me with cunning smiles.

Our gossip time was interrupted by the arrival of the head of departments. They were thrilled to see me and Karsten and we shook hands with everyone.

After they were seated, Karsten stood in the head position and placed his hands, palms down, on the table. He faced the people he had worked with for years, who had helped and guided him to take his empire where it stood today. I proudly stood beside him.

Karsten gave a small but emotional speech.

"Thank you! For gathering here today. As we know, everything good has to finally come to an end. Similarly, my time as the CEO has ended today." He paused, a wounded smile covered his lips.

A collective gasp and murmur erupted and I witnessed shocked faces of his people. He raised his right hand and quieted them down.

"I know, it must have come as a shock. But there are things I need to take care of. Don’t worry, I will always be a call away if anyone needs me, and I am leaving you in the capable hands of my brother, Rahsir Chevalier. He will be your next CEO." Karsten straightened and invited Rahsir forward, shifting to give him his position.

Rahsir stood in Karsten’s place and faced the stunned faces of the Heads of Departments while Karsten moved to stand beside me. I crossed my arm with his and squeezed, sharing with him my strength.

"You did good, I am proud of you," I whispered, staring up at him and witnessing him taking a deep inhale. He was still burdened and a plan formed in my brain.

Rahsir started off with a joke to lighten the tense atmosphere and began to give his own speech.

Letting Rahsir settle into the new role and get familiarise with the team we left the meeting room. Our feet took us straight to Karsten’s office.

He threw open the large door with the company’s logo on it and we entered the place.

Nostalgia washed over me. "This is the place we met for the first time." I moved forward, my hands skimming the top of the sofa.

Karsten ambled towards his executive chair and settled in it, inviting me towards him.

"And I found you sleeping in this chair when I returned from the meeting. I was amused," he reminded me and I giggled with my hand covering my mouth.

Walking over to him I perched myself in his lap and looped my arms around his neck.

"This office has so many memories. Remember when you kissed me against your table and we almost didn’t stop." My palms rubbed his hollowed cheeks as he leaned back into the chair and slowly swung it left and right.

"Yeah! When you told me my other self was better than me. I was more than amused by your pettiness."

Heat rose to my face, and embarrassment coated my whole being at that reminder.

"Talking about that, I want to see you transfer in him and do mischievous things to me," I requested, placing my head on his chest and losing myself in him.
