Chapter 297: Shift Of Power

(Karsten)

It was time for the tough decision—to transfer power to my brother.

I had called the meeting of the Board of Directors. My resignation was ready, all printed and neatly placed in a file to be handed over.

Rahsir was already here and today we would take the vote to elect the next CEO.

Arata held an electric blue tie in her hands. Lifting the collar of my shirt, she expertly placed it around my neck and began to tie the knot. Her soft blue eyes found mine. "You good?"

My lips flattened slightly before I offered a nod. Unconvinced she looped the long fabric, tying the knot and pulling, adjusting it around my throat like a noose.

Damn! I hated ties.

Pushing the collar down, she smoothed it and brushed my shoulders. She leaned in and pressed her cheek into my chest.

"It’s alright to be sad about this. You don’t have to be always strong." My arms wrapped around her, pulling her into me. Hugging her always felt like being submerged in a sea of calmness.

"I know, but I have to do this. Go to the Arsten Empire with Caysir and once I am done, I will join you." Kissing the top of her head, I let her go.

She squeezed my arms before separating from me. "Good luck and I love you."

"I love you too."

With a heavy heart, I departed to meet the board of directors along with Rahsir.

Olphi opened the door for me as we reached the residence of Azbial Wittal. Buttoning my coat, I climbed out of the car. Rahsir followed me.

Rahsir had a degree in Business Administration, but unlike Roshra, he hadn’t set up his own business but had been working under another firm.

Without a doubt, he had the training and ability to run this company.

"Do they have another candidate?" Rahsir thoughtfully asked.

"I am sure they will bring a rival but it will just be formality. No one is ascending my seat but you," I confidently informed him and he snickered.

We entered the meeting room and everyone stood up. Azbial shook hands with me followed by the rest of them. freewebnøvel.coɱ

"Congratulations on your Ascension," they told me one by one and I respectfully accepted.

Olphi brought the file of my resignation and placed it on the marble table.

"Please! Take your seats." I gestured and they settled down after shaking hands with Rahsir.

The meeting began and I stood up to explain how I could no longer continue being the CEO. Although they already knew, I was just following protocols.

Since voting required two candidates, another member from among them was nominated to represent.

Miles Dawhne.

Both candidates gave small speeches and explained why they were worthy of this position.

After their speeches, Azbial stood up and said. "Let the voting begin."

I glanced at Rahsir and found him sitting and absorbing everything with determination. His posture was straight but not too straight as if to appear rigid, but calculated. My brother knew how to carry himself.

"Everyone in favour of Miles Dawhne to become the next CEO of the Arsten Empire, please raise your hands."

Only two hands shot up. Miles nodded at them with a thankful appreciation.

"Everyone in favour of Rahsir Chevalier. Please! Raise your hands." I raised my hand along with all the other board members except the two who had voted for Miles.

Rahsir’s lips curled up in a satisfying smile, and his gaze found mine. A nod of gratitude he offered as I smiled at my brother.

"This concludes our voting. Mr Rahsir Chevalier is the new CEO of the Arsten Empire, effective immediately," Azbial announced standing up. A round of applause went around while Rahsir elegantly stood up to shake hands with others.

"Congratulations!"

"We look forward to working with you."

"Welcome aboard!"

They congratulated and welcomed him while I stood watching my brother taking up the position and amiably dealing with these vultures. I had given him a detailed analysis of them but he will soon learn on whom to avoid and whom to charm.

Stepping forward I finally hugged him, placing my hand on the back of his neck, I whispered.

"I am proud of you."

He nodded before stepping back. The pride and glory had combined on his face, as he stood tall with one hand in his pants pocket.

"Thank you! For giving me the opportunity. I won’t disappoint you," he murmured back to me before facing the others.

Taking the main seat, he faced them and gave a small speech. Rahsir wasn’t very talkative but his words always held depth or sarcasm.

After the formalities and a coffee session, we finally left the place and headed to the Arsten Empire.

"Arata and I have decided to set up a branch in Sparia and collaborate with her father’s company," I informed him while loosening the stupid tie. Rahsir turned to face me, his fingers drumming his thigh.

"That’s a wonderful idea. Collaborations always bring new investments and customers. I am totally in favour of this. In fact, we should do one with our main branch too."

I nodded. "Yes, I will speak to Mr Kincaid and we will work this out together."

Rahsir leaned back but his eyes stayed on me. "You might have quit the position but this company will always be yours. You built it, took it to these heights. Don’t ever think I will try to snatch it from you."

I slowly smiled at my brother’s words and shook my head. The recent events were still fresh in my mind. "It’s ours, now. I just saw Mr Kincaid getting targeted by his half-brother, who tried not only to kill him but also Arata." The rage that incident brought me had my hands fisting. "Promise me, we will never become like that."

Rahsir gave me a snort. "I might be a pain in the ass on more than one occasion for you but hurting you or causing any kind of harm is not my cup of tea. I am too blunt and say what I want to say. You understand I have no filters."

I ran a hand through my hair. "Well, that will be something you will need to learn. Exercise control, never reveal all of your cards at the same time." I reached forward and patted his shoulder. "Don’t worry, I will guide you on many things."

With that we arrived back at the Arsten Empire.
