My CEO Boss Is A Masked Internet Sensation-Chapter 290: Love In A Father’s Heart
Chapter 290: Love In A Father’s Heart
(Karsten)
"Don’t you want to be the favourite aunt? I can put in a good word with the baby." Arata winked at Roshra, strategically placing her hands on her belly.
Roshra dramatically gasped and instantly shifted her loyalty.
"Sorry, brother dear. I can’t lose that favourite aunt title. I am with Arata." She crossed over to Arata’s side, too, and placed her arms around her.
I had to hide my amusement at her actions but Rahsir wasn’t so subtle. He guffawed at his twin’s dramatic flair.
"Your betrayal stings, especially when I have been shot." I tried to be emotional.
"That part is going to put you in good books with Mr Kincaid. By the way, he is so graceful and handsome face-to-face." Roshra focused her attention on Arata, dreamily placing her palm under her chin so her fingers drummed her cheek. "Your Mom is very lucky." frёeωebɳovel.com
"ROSHRA!" All three of us warned her at the same time, knowing her. Arata bit down on her lower lip to refrain from bursting out laughing.
"What? Can’t I compliment someone who has aged like a masterpiece?" She just shrugged her shoulders.
Ma reached forward and patted Roshra’s knee and worriedly said, "You need to find a boyfriend, soon."
Roshra pouted in return, her shoulders slouched, backbone bending.
"I have eyes on someone but Arata won’t give me his number. She thinks her friend is too good for me."
And Roshra had started her mind games again. She always guilt-tripped others to get her way, but in the cutest way possible.
Rahsir was amusedly shaking his head while his arms remained crossed over his chest. He knew our sister too well.
"That’s not true. He is a sweet guy and I just don’t want him to get caught up in our mess," Arata truthfully told Roshra. I knew she would figure out I had sent Roshra on a mission at that time. She was too smart to hide anything.
Roshra crossed her hand on her heart and enthusiastically moved her torso. "I swear I will be gentle in my approach with your friend."
"All right, but I will have to take his permission first." Arata gave in and Roshra’s face lit up like the summer sun.
"Yahhhh! You are going to be the best sister-in-law ever." She hugged Arata, making her deeply blush and insinuating something we had never discussed. Our relationship hadn’t reached that level before we were torn apart.
Her intrigued eyes wavered towards me and I reassuringly smiled at her.
Once I was out of bed, this was going to be my first action.
"She already is," Ma popped in with all her affection. Her words were sincere, I knew all her moods and nothing brought me more satisfaction than seeing how she had warmed up to Arata.
They continued with small jokes and teasing until the nurse kicked everyone out and put me to sleep.
Arata didn’t leave without kissing my forehead, leaving me with her warmth and love.
When I woke up again, Zyair Kincaid had sought permission to meet me.
The man entered my room with his distinctive style. Like a person who owned the room without even trying, who demanded attention even without being aware of it.
His face no longer held those angered edges; it had mellowed, calmed. Those whetted eyes held serenity now.
Arata had so much of her father inside her while Zaylen was mostly like his mother.
Calm, more mature—grounded.
He gracefully took the chair beside me and placed both his hands on the armrests before gently asking.
"How are you feeling?"
"Better, the bullet missed the organs so it’s not a big deal," I tried to casually brush it off.
"Mr Chevalier, it’s not nothing. You risked your life to save ours, especially my daughter’s. Although what you were doing was stalking, I am going to ignore that," he said with a sudden hint of amusement.
Oops! That stalker label was never going to be washed away from me.
"She is of the utmost importance to me, Mr Kincaid. I promised you I would protect her, I am very serious about keeping it," I answered with calmness, but my heart wouldn’t settle. This was my chance to make the best impression.
He gave one single elegant nod and crossed his hands while his elbows remained on the armrests. He explained everything related to the attack and how his half-brother was involved. I listened carefully, not interrupting but inside my heart was extremely restless. I wanted to end the lives of people who continued to hurt Arata.
Zyair’s voice brought me back.
"Truth be told. I hate Mafia Lords, gang leaders or whatnot you people like to call yourselves. And I was highly against this relationship. My daughter deserves better." He paused, ensuring I was listening.
He was right and I gave him a quick nod.
"But she loves you, too deeply. And you have saved her life many times. For that, I owe you and will always do. Thank you for being there for her and putting her first."
Did Zyair Kincaid just thank me?
I wasn’t dreaming, was I?
"She will always be my priority. I hope you can give us your blessing because I would like to take her along once I am healed."
A darkness fell on Zyair’s face but he masked it quickly.
"I know both of you must have spoken about your status as the Kingpin but I hope my daughter and her unborn child would remain safe and be least affected by your role." He let out a deep breath before continuing. His relentless eyes never wavered from me.
"I thought I could always keep her safe and no one else could. But yesterday’s events shook me and revealed how unpredictable life was and I needed to stop interfering in hers. Let her make her decisions and find her happiness. Even if it was with you."
That last sentence stung like a scorpion’s stinger but I swallowed my pride. The man was handing over his most prized possession to me, his daughter. I should be thankful.
"I will always be deeply indebted to you for trusting me with her. You won’t regret your decision."
He pinned me with a challenging glare. "I better not. Don’t give me a reason to come for you."
I shook my head. "You won’t have to, I love Arata with every nerve of my being. She will be more than content with me."
Zyair silently nodded and stood up. "Your family will stay with us until your recovery. So don’t worry." He stood up and straightened his clothes. "I will take my leave now"
"I appreciate that." I was genuinely touched by his gesture.
He slowly walked over to the door and then paused. Turning only his head, he quietly said. "I still don’t like you. And before you judge me, I hope Arata gives birth to a baby girl. One day when she leaves your nest with her lover, you will understand the heart of a father and the love it holds for his daughter. Take care of mine. She is the most dear to me." Sighing heavily, I witnessed his erect shoulder slope down as if a huge burden had fallen on his shoulders.
Before I could say another word, he opened the door and left.
