Chapter 285: Stay With Me

(Karsten)

Getting back, I changed out of the wet clothes.

By the time I got into bed, I was sneezing but didn’t care.

Caysir, on the other hand, took his promise to Arata seriously and brought me some hot soup and Vicks.

I slept peacefully with her lingering thoughts in my mind.

Her warmth, her softness.

Her scent...everything just left me wanting more and more.

Patience, I reminded myself as I woke up the next morning.

Getting up, I freshened up and had breakfast. Hades was on duty outside Arata’s home.

His call came and he informed, "Our Queen is leaving somewhere with her father. Do you want me to follow them?" free𝑤ebnovel.com

Where could they be going?

I will ask, Arata.

"Yes, keep on their trail. I am coming." I ended the call and strapped on my wristwatch, shifting my wrist to ensure it was tight enough.

Calling Caysir, I informed him I would be going alone but gave him access to my location in case he needed to reach me.

I headed out and Hades sent me the location of where they had stopped.

It seemed like a breakfast diner. I arrived there and sent Hades away to get rest. He had been on duty all night long.

"Two men will remain discreetly behind you, just in case," Hades informed me before driving away.

I agreed with the plan.

I waited for Arata and her father to emerge from the diner while I sent her a text.

{Hey! Phoenix. Good morning. What’s up?}

She replied instantly.

{Good morning. Just spending some quality time with Baba.}

So the old man had decided to take her out. Maybe a tactic to escape me. I smiled sarcastically. It wasn’t so easy to get rid of me.

They emerged from the diner after half an hour and settled into their car. Arata had on a very beautiful purple top with collar, a pink long skirt with a matching scarf and boots.

She was smiling, her face bright under the sun and it melted my heart like butter under a hot knife.

Beautiful, my girl was one of a kind. She made me forget the world around me.

Their driver took the wheel and off they went.

I discreetly followed.

Keeping at a distance from them, I tried not to lose sight.

Soon we hit the main road. Our cars stopped at a traffic signal. There were very few cars. Their car was in front, while mine was one car behind them, but there was ample gap to reach their side if I wanted.

I drummed my fingers on the steering wheel while my eyes were focused on Arata’s car. She seemed to be in deep talks with her father.

I observed as a 4×4 wheeler zoomed in from their left side. The green light on that car’s side was on but it sped forward at a blinding speed.

My sixth sense pricked, and without thinking, I started my car and intercepted the fast 4×4 with a cage bumper in front.

It didn’t slow down, and I watched in horror as it rammed into my car, which had just stopped right beside Arata’s.

BANG!!!

The sickening sound of the wheel against the gravel and metal colliding with metal filled the air, followed by Arata’s faint scream.

The car had hit mine, and if I hadn’t moved, it would have rammed into Arata and her father.

My body violently jerked forward, and the airbag opened cushioning me while the seat belt jolted me back.

The windows cracked but didn’t break. At least the expensive car came with safety.

The car had taken the extent of damage, absorbing much of the impact but I was sure we weren’t out of danger.

My head snapped towards the car and men were getting out carrying guns. They seemed professional, with no remorse or any emotions on their faces.

Hired guns for killing.

Every instinct in body screamed to protect her and my unborn child.

This was bad, they were going to hurt my woman. They were here with a full plan of destroying her car and then ending their lives.

As if stuck in slow motion, I punched the air bag, deflating it and extracted my gun from the compartment. Throwing open the seat belt and the door I jumped out and faced them, acting as a shield between Arata and them.

Our eyes met, theirs bloodthirsty—mine angered with a wish to protect what’s mine.

Instantly they opened fire.

"Fuck!"

I ducked and used my bulletproof car as a shield to take shots. My men were already behind me as we exchanged bullets and so was Arata’s bodyguard.

I knew from the model that Zyair’s car was also bulletproof, and that brought me relief.

I turned and found Arata’s horrified face staring back at me from the car window. Her father had his arms around her, shielding her but surprise and anger had accumulated on his face.

"Stay inside, lay low," I sternly instructed and focused my attention on the assholes.

Aiming at non-vital parts of their bodies, I pulled the trigger. I would keep them alive. They came for my woman and I needed to know who they were and why they had targeted Arata and her father.

"Sir! Stay back. Let us," my guards shouted from behind me, but I remained in my position, firing at them.

Two of the enemy men were hit by us, they lay on the ground, bleeding. The cars sped away from this bloody scene unfolding, people ran for their lives.

One of the assassins remained low and came from behind us.

I didn’t see him coming; I only heard the shot which pierced the side of my rib, making unimaginable pain erupt in my body.

A slow scream seemed to have erupted from my mouth as I aimed and shot at his hand. He dropped the gun. Arata’s guard shot him in the leg and he screamed before collapsing on the ground.

Painfully, I shouted while holding my bleeding side. "Get him...I need them alive."

Horrified, one of my guards ran forward while the other held me. My hands shook and the gun clattered down on the graphite road.

The pain was blinding, but my head turned and eyes found hers, ensuring she was safe and that no harm had come to her.

"Nooo!" I heard her agonising screams as she burst out of her car. Although her father tried to catch her, I knew nothing in the world could stop her at that moment from reaching me.

"Karstennn!" She kneeled beside me and grabbed me from my bodyguard. Her comforting presence brought a wounded smile on my lips.

"Ar–e you o—kay?" My voice came out broken.

Tears rained down her cheeks as she pressed down on my wound, just shaking her head frantically.

"We have to get him to a hospital," she yelled and I felt someone picking me up and loading me into their car.

The world blurred around me, and my eyelids got heavier. The last thing I remembered was seeing her crying face as she held me and begged.

"Stay with me, Karsten. Pleasee!"

I tried, but the darkness took over, and I was lost.
