Chapter 286: No More Messing With Us

(Arata)

Everything happened in slow motion for me from Karsten bringing his car in between ours and the enemy’s to his fiercely defending us and getting shot.

Although he had told me to stay inside the car and Baba held onto me, I couldn’t.

My heart seemed to have been smashed into a million pieces seeing him fall to his knees. The crimson bloomed like a pool on his sky blue shirt.

I escaped Baba’s arms, screaming and rushed to his side. His bodyguard had caught him.

"Karstennn!" His name painfully tore from my lips. I snatched him from his guard.

Our bodyguard and his had dealt with the shooters by now.

Even in this condition he was concerned about me. His words came out broken as I watched him fight unconsciousness.

"We have to get him to a hospital," I yelled, pressing down on his wound. Tears were freely flowing down my cheeks. I couldn’t lose him, not like this.

The stain was spreading and widening and his eyes began to close. His guard and Baba came to my aid and picked him up.

"Stay with me, Karsten. Pleasee!" I begged but he lost consciousness.

"Let us take him, Arata," Baba calmly asked, trying to handle the situation since I was losing it.

They quickly shifted him in the back of the car without waiting for an ambulance. I insisted on sitting with him in my lap.

My hands were covered in his blood as I trembled and cried—keeping pressure on his wound.

His face appeared so peaceful, so contradictory from what I was experiencing. Horrible thoughts emerged in my brain and I cried out.

"Drive faster..."

My eyes wouldn’t budge from him, my hands remained on his bleeding wound. Remembering my scarf I removed it from my head and wound it across his waist to decrease the flow of blood.

"Stay alive for me, will you." I placed a tender kiss on his forehead, my lips quivered. Praying with my trembling limbs, I held onto him.

Thankfully the hospital was near and emergency paramedics were already standing ready when our car screeched to a halt.

The door was yanked open and the paramedic calmly said. "We will need to take him."

With a heavy heart and trembling body, I gave him a nod and let them take him away.

Rushing out of the car, I remained behind them as Baba caught up to me.

He didn’t stop me, just protectively remained by my side while explaining to the paramedics what had happened.

They soon disappeared with him inside the operation theatre, leaving us outside.

Baba held me while he made the necessary calls to Zaylen, Uncle Kail and the police.

My mind kept reeling, conjuring up scenarios and staring at my hands covered in his blood.

How he had risked his life to save ours. He hadn’t even hesitated, not even once.

Baba seated me on a chair and offered me water.

"Arata, drink this and remain strong. Karsten is a tough guy and stubborn just like you. He is going to be just fine," he said, trying to strengthen my heart.

I nodded, wiping away my tears and took a sip of water but I couldn’t stop shaking.

Caysir and Hades soon joined us, both seemed grim. The other guards must have told them.

Baba explained to them what had happened. While the police had arrived at the crime scene and taken the two of the men, one was hidden away by Karsten’s bodyguard and taken to an unknown location.

Caysir walked up to me and kneeled in front.

"Miss Arata, are you alright?" He asked, in concern. I simply nodded.

"We have one of the men and will get him to talk soon. Don’t worry, Sir will survive this," he reassured me.

"Do you have enemies, Mr Kincaid?" Hades asked Baba with his hands behind his back and voice steady.

"Many. We have been attacked before too. But this time, it seemed like they had come with a full plan. If Karsten hadn’t been there," his eyes wavered to me and I saw them soften for him. "The results would have been catastrophic."

Both of us knew that Karsten had saved our lives today and we owed him.

Baba’s face held anger and resentment but not for Karsten. It was for those who had dared to come for us. free𝑤ebnovel.com

"We will get the answers before the police and I assure you the people who have hurt our lord and tried to come for you and our Queen will be severely dealt with. They will think twice in the future before messing with us."

Hades bumped his hands together and I agreed with him. We were done getting hurt again and again by people who thought we were weak.

They had taken our peace as a sign of weakness, not anymore.

I stood up and faced Hades. "Get the answers by any means possible. And no, this time we will not forgive them. They will pay for trying to mess with me and my loved ones."

A triumphant smile crossed Hades lips and he respectfully bowed to me.

"It will be my greatest pleasure."

Hades left while Caysir remained by my side. Taking out my cell phone, I knew I needed to call his family. My hands shook but I took a deep breath and calmed my nerves.

Dialling his Ma, I placed the phone on my ear and waited with a rapidly beating heart.

She picked up after the third bell. "Hola!"

"Hi! Camilla, it’s me Arata speaking." I tried to keep my voice from shaking.

"Arata, how are you, child? It’s so good to hear from you," she seemed excited and my heart drowned because I needed to inform her about Karsten

"Camilla, can you sit down? I have something to tell you but you will have to be strong."

She snatched in a deep breath, hearing my words. Her tone turned serious when she spoke again.

"Is it about my son? What happened?"

She knew instantly.

"He has been shot and is undergoing an operation right now in Angel City. Can you come?" I told her while keeping my voice calm.

"My child!" Her voice trembled and I understood she was trying to control herself. "I will be there. I am coming."
