Chapter 263: Leaving Angel City

(Arata)

"I noticed Karsten giving a very acidic stare to Callum when he arrived. He instantly got up and left the waiting area and returned with his sister carrying all those gifts. I think he is taking Callum as competition," Stella concluded, smiling naughtily.

Callum seemed like he wished for the ground to open and engulf him.

"No wonder he sent his sister to flirt with you," Zaylen walked over and nudged Callum.

"Guys, stop teasing Callum. Both of you have no sense of privacy," I reprimanded, making them grin wickedly.

Callum offered me a grateful nod.

"Let me take you out for a drink. Come, let the girls talk."

Zaylen grabbed his arm and led him away while Stella settled with me, grabbing a box of chocolates from the table, one Roshra had brought.

Peeling the wrapper, she began to nibble on the long stick of chocolate.

"At least he has good taste in chocolate," Stella lazily commented.

"Is he still outside?" I asked with a sigh. She slowly nodded, her eyes still on the brown stick in her hand.

"He hardly leaves. If he does, his bodyguards stay behind."

And then her eyes slowly slid towards me, gawking at my reaction. She asked. "Do you love him, Arata?"

Love him? My heart ached from the amount of love I held for him. But how it would ever work between us was even more painful to think about.

I placed a spoon filled with rice in my mouth and chewed slowly.

"I fell fast and hard. He consumed me like no one ever had. He made me feel alive and he cared very deeply." I placed the spoon back and faced her. "And he is the Twisted Rider. You know what that man did to me."

Stella nodded with her lips bunched up.

"I wish you had given me some clue that you had fallen so deep. I thought you guys just annoyed each other and that’s about it."

"I didn’t want to be a bother. You had your own shit going on. And with Aunt Huria being ill, you had a lot on your plate." My appetite had suddenly ended, but Stella picked up the spoon, filling it up with rice, and she offered it to me.

I accepted.

"You are never a bother. Don’t be ridiculous. And while I will honour whatever steps you will take, don’t feel pressured into making a decision. Your health, both mental and physical, should be of utmost priority."

"I know. I am not rushing into anything but the situation demands I need to step up, especially for this baby."

My eyes glanced down at my belly and both hands protectively curved against it.

"All of us will be there to help you along this journey. But, I have seen Uncle Zyair’s animosity against Karsten. He is too stressed at the thought that you will accept him back in your life." She sighed.

"That’s why I never told anyone about my involvement with Karsten. I never planned on falling for him..." I stared at Stella. "It was supposed to be a fake relationship but I don’t know when I became so lovesick with him."

Stella leaned forward and hugged me, rubbing my back.

"I understand Arata. It’s natural and love doesn’t always need a reason. It just happens."

She held me, and we sat there in silence after that, with me leaning into her. Her assurance was calming.

Soon, with all kinds of therapies, I began to walk and properly move my hands. It was only a few steps a day but it was progress. The bandages came off but some of the scars remained.

A cap permanently rested on my head and I wasn’t yet ready to see myself in a mirror.

No one forced me or even presented the idea, giving me space to make that decision on my own.

At times, I wanted to see Karsten, but I didn’t give in to the temptation. All that healing I needed to do would only be possible by being away from him. frёeweɓηovel_coɱ

Baba arrived with my discharge papers.

"Arata, we are returning to Angel City today. Everything has been arranged and we have packed all your luggage."

The news shattered something inside me. I knew I had to leave and yet the thought of not seeing him hurt deeply.

"Yes, Baba. Can I request something?" I asked with a plea.

"Always, Moonshine."

"Can I see Karsten before we leave?" His forehead lined up with creases at my request. Averting his gaze he began to place the paper inside the file.

"He is not here. Gone home. And we don’t have time to wait," he sternly answered.

I didn’t want to disappoint him more, so I kept quiet.

I could always text Karsten. My hands had begun to function better.

Stella brought me fresh clothes and helped me change while Baba and Zaylen handled all the hospital stuff.

Wearing a long black woollen dress with a matching cap, I was ready to leave this city behind.

It gave me the worst kind of nightmares and yet some of the most beautiful memories of my life.

We walked out of my room as Baba wrapped a warm fur coat around my shoulders.

Caysir stood just outside my door along with another intimidating man, I didn’t recognise.

"Miss Arata!" He greeted me in his cheerful voice.

"My Queen!" The scary-looking dude, who seemed to have stepped out of a Hollywood movie for freestyle wrestling, greeted me.

My Queen? He had to be one of his men from the mafia gang. I politely nodded at him.

"Are you leaving?" Caysir asked, seeing my family carrying out all my stuff.

"Yes, I am returning to Angel City," I informed him and all colour drained from his face. The other man instantly extracted his phone and began dialling; I knew Karsten.

"Arata! We need to leave," Baba said firmly and I had to comply.

By the time he was going to get here, I would be gone.
