Chapter 259: Blue Roses Vs Red Roses

(Arata)

My family stayed by my side after that, helping me with the recovery process. Baba didn’t speak about my pregnancy, nor it came up in front of him but I knew the topic would make him explode, one day or the other.

But he ensured to let me know of his abhorrence of Karsten so I didn’t allow Karsten to come see me again.

Chan and Miranda came to visit me, bringing flowers and fruits.

"Everyone at the office is thinking about you, Arata," Chan said with a hug while Miranda arranged flowers in a vase and nodded.

"Yes, we miss you girl. Can’t wait to have you back with us." Miranda walked over and affectionately rubbed my arm.

The bandages from my face had been removed and now only scars remained. I could only hope onlookers wouldn’t be repulsed.

"Thanks, guys, but I don’t think I will be returning to that place. I am going back to Angel City."

They exchanged sad glances at each other.

"We understand, never thought Mr Whittle would be such a shameful person," Chan stated with a shake of his head.

"Yes, Mr Karsten made an official statement and announced we had cut all ties with him and his actions had done nothing but bring shame to him and the company," Miranda filled me in, now handing me a bowl of strawberries so I could munch on them.

"I hope he is caught and tried for his actions," I simply said, not feeling an inkling to speak about the man who had given me ample scars to last a lifetime.

Picking up a strawberry, I began to bite into it.

They stayed and talked for a while. Chan brought his usual gossip-wrapped jokes, and Miranda pitched in, making me laugh and keeping my mood lighter.

After they had left, the door opened again and this time it was Callum who walked in, carrying a bouquet of red roses.

"Hey!" He shyly said, his cheeks tinting the same colour, as the flowers in his hand.

"Hi! Callum, it’s good to see you." He slowly walked over and offered me the bouquet.

"How are you? Sorry, it took me a while to arrive. But Aunt Skyla said she would handle the business for a couple of days so I could come."

Mom had spoken to me on the phone many times but due to grandma, she was unable to come. Soon, we would return to Angel City and reconnect with her. I was hoping these bruises would lessen by that time. Didn’t want Mom or Grandma to see me like this.

"Thank you! Callum, I am as fantastic as ever..." I brought the bouquet closer to my nose and took a deep inhale. The fragrance was invigorating.

Callum smiled at my choice of words, little dimples appeared in his cheeks. He took the chair beside me and settled himself down. His eyes wavered to my head, but Stella had been kind enough to bring me a woollen cap so I wouldn’t feel overwhelmed while meeting others.

My self-esteem had taken a hit, but I was in the recovery process.

"I am sorry I shared the information about Karsten with others. I would never have, but the situation demanded it," he said, crossing his arms, and I slowly smiled at him.

"I should never have burdened you with such a secret. It’s alright, though; he told me everything."

Callum shifted uneasily. "He now holds the position of Mafia Lord of Sparia. No wonder he stared at me like he wished to see me burn alive when I entered your room carrying flowers."

I had to close my eyes and bite down on my lower lip. Jealousy and possessiveness were always Karsten’s strong traits and now he flaunted them so openly.

I could only imagine how the waiting area had not turned into a wrestling arena by now. Both Baba and Karsten refused to leave or talk.

Like two jilted exes they stayed out there, avoiding each other and yet not completely.

"He has no claim over me, so relax," I answered, but my own words hurt me; my heart felt this ping of pain deep inside.

"So, it didn’t work out?" Callum tried to casually ask but I knew he was fishing.

I caressed the velvety flowers; my hands could feel now, although my wrists were still badly bruised.

"I don’t know Callum...I have never been so divided on a decision. I guess time will tell where we stand." I stole a look at Callum and knew I shouldn’t be discussing this with him.

"So much happened between us, so much shared history now. But I will figure it out."

He gave me a small nod of understanding. Anyone else in my place would have fallen for someone like Callum. But sometimes I believed I was screwed in the head to not love a decent guy.

Karsten’s darkness attracted me. Even with all his flaws my heart beats still rose at even the mention of his name.

No matter how much I denied it, how much I lied to myself—I could never forget him.

Interrupting my thoughts another figure entered through the door.

Loud and unashamed.

"Arata! You sweet sweet girl." Roshra dashed forward, carrying a huge teddy bear, flowers, chocolates and whatnot—as if she had chaotically hit a Valentine’s Day store before rushing here.

Callum quickly stood up seeing this tornado of goodies and a chatter storm.

She effortlessly plunged half of things into Callum’s unstretched arms....hitting his stomach with the huge teddy bear.

"Be a darling and hold these, will you?" She casually said and poor Callum quickly nodded.

I watched the utter madness as Roshra finally made her way to me, bending down to hug me.

"How are you? I was so worried." She placed a bouquet of blue roses right above Callum’s, and I knew too well that it wasn’t from her.

"Not so bad. How about you?"

She pulled the chair, Callum had just vacated and flopped down on it as if she had just completed a marathon. Her expensive fur coat sat snugly on her tall curvy body.

"I am so so happy to see you, Arata. We were so worried." She innocently blinked at me and my eyes wavered to poor Callum...
