Chapter 49: Chapter 48: Undercover

When Shinomiya Kaguya heard her father's words, her body stiffened slightly.

For years, she had spent her birthdays quietly at home with Hayasaka, avoiding unnecessary attention.

Now, a grand banquet was being arranged—there was no way this was merely a gesture of celebration.

She knew her father too well.

Something was at play.

"Understood, Father," she replied, lowering her gaze in quiet submission.

Shinomiya Gan'an's tone had left no room for negotiation.

Born into the Shinomiya family, Kaguya had long accepted that her life was never truly hers to control.

She had been raised with the finest education, etiquette, and training, destined to serve the family's interests rather than her own.

The Shinomiya Zaibatsu had thrived for generations under a strict patriarchal hierarchy.

As the youngest daughter, she was a pawn—a bargaining chip to be used where necessary.

Her deceased mother, Nayotaka Shimizu, had been the same.

She was once a beautiful and influential woman, but in the end, she was still someone who existed only to benefit the family.

And now, Kaguya herself was no different.

Her birthday was nothing more than a tool for her father's political maneuvers.

How laughable.

Even at the top of the world, she still felt so powerless.

She didn't know that this decision wasn't just about her.

That Natsukawa Ryuu's existence had truly intrigued her father.

If he was really as powerful as the reports claimed...

Then the Shinomiya family had no choice but to take action.

"Good," Gan'an said, nodding in approval. "Then that settles it."

With that, the meeting was dismissed.

Kaguya stood up silently, following her brothers as they exited the conference room.

But behind them, in the dimly lit room, one person remained lost in thought.

Shinomiya Oko.

The eldest son and the next in line to inherit the Zaibatsu.

As he sat in the backseat of his luxury car, his fingers tapped against the armrest in irritation.

If Natsukawa Ryuu really was a Special Grade sorcerer, that would be an unparalleled asset for the family.

But if he became too close to Kaguya...

Then she could turn into a threat to his power.

He couldn't allow that.

A smirk tugged at the corner of his lips.

Fortunately, he had placed someone near Kaguya long ago.

A spy.

At the time, it was nothing more than a formality—a way to monitor her mundane school life.

A waste of time.

Or so he thought.

Now, however...

That undercover agent had finally become useful.

December 20th

Just two days before Christmas Eve.

The city was already buzzing with rumors.

Across the hallways of Takasobu Academy, students whispered excitedly between classes.

"Did you hear? Shinjuku is getting locked down on the 24th!"

"Huh? A lockdown?"

"They're saying it's an evacuation drill or something!"

"Evacuation? Like... an earthquake drill?"

"But why clear out the entire area? Even residents aren't allowed to go home that night."

"Sounds suspicious... Maybe the government's doing some classified experiment?"

"Bro, you read too many conspiracy theories. It's probably just some gas leak or something."

"But why Christmas Eve? And why Shinjuku of all places?"

"Whatever, as long as they don't cancel anime broadcasts, I don't care."

Despite the government's attempts to suppress information, speculation had already spread like wildfire.

Especially among those who knew the truth.

Inside a quiet clubroom, a group of four girls gathered.

"So... Ryuu-kun," Kasumigaoka Utaha spoke first, her tone casual but inquisitive, "do you know anything about what's going on in Shinjuku?"

At her words, the other girls turned their attention toward him.

Utaha's calm voice carried a hint of expectation, as if she already suspected something.

After all, Natsukawa Ryuu was not a normal student.

Lying lazily on the sofa, Ryuu let out a small sigh.

"As expected," he muttered. "Can't keep anything a secret, huh?"

Then, raising his head slightly, he replied, "Yeah. It's a battle."

"A battle?" Miura Yumiko frowned.

"Between Jujutsu Sorcerers and Curse Users," Ryuu explained. "They're using Shinjuku as the battleground. The government's just trying to keep civilians out of the crossfire."

The room fell silent.

Finally, Yotsuya Miko broke the silence.

"Then... are you going to be involved?" she asked cautiously.

Ryuu nodded without hesitation.

"I've been waiting for this for a long time," he admitted.

"The only reason I didn't tell you guys earlier was to avoid worrying you... but I guess that's not happening now."

Miura Yumiko crossed her arms.

"That's an understatement," she muttered, clearly annoyed.

"You're really jumping into something this dangerous?"

Even Utaha, who was usually calm, narrowed her eyes.

"You're our "leader"," she said, her tone serious. "Your safety is our top priority. Don't forget that."

Miko, Yumiko, and Utaha all watched him closely, their expressions full of concern.

Ryuu smiled.

"Relax," he assured them. "I know my limits."

At that moment, Oka Tooko, their spiritual mentor, finally spoke up.

"I don't know much about your world," she admitted. "But based on what I've observed... Natsukawa-sama is undoubtedly among the strongest."

Hearing this, the girls exchanged glances.

Slowly, they began to relax.

The tension eased slightly, and Ryuu took the opportunity to shift the mood.

"Well, since Christmas Eve is a big deal... why don't all three of you come to my place that night?" he suggested.

Before anyone could react—

"Wait, wait, wait!!"

A sudden protest came from the side.

Hana Yurikawa, who had been quietly eating snacks, suddenly jumped up.

"Why wasn't I invited?!" she pouted.

"Aren't we all in the same club?!"

"And another thing—what did Utaha-senpai mean by 'leader' just now?!"

"Are you guys hiding something from me?!"

Instantly, Miko panicked.

"Ah—no! No, no! It's nothing! It's just like... a club president title!"

"Yeah, yeah!" Yumiko nodded quickly. "Nothing weird at all!"

Utaha simply chuckled.

As Miko and Yumiko desperately tried to cover up the truth, Ryuu sat back with a smirk.

Looks like Christmas Eve was going to be even more interesting than he expected.
