Chapter 50: Chapter 49: Cheer Up

In the end, Yurikawa Hana was successfully fooled by Yotsuya Miko.

She now saw the whole "leader" thing as nothing more than a club activity, which meant she couldn't be refused when visiting Ryuu's house.

Naturally, Miko and the others couldn't find an excuse to stop her anymore.

Ryuu, of course, didn't mind this outcome at all.

But things were still carefully planned.

A single day was divided into three distinct time slots:

Morning

Afternoon

Evening

And on the Saturday before Christmas Eve, Miura Yumiko, Kasumigaoka Utaha, and Miko had all perfectly scheduled their time.

Each of them arrived at different times of the day.

###

Morning

Yotsuya Miko showed up first, bringing a homemade breakfast from her mother.

She had become more familiar with Ryuu's home and cleaned up his place naturally before they spent a quiet morning together.

By noon, she had left to visit Oka Tooko.

With more girls visiting his house regularly, Oka Tooko had started spending less time guarding the place and more time teaching them.

To make things easier, she had even moved into a nearby apartment to focus on her work.

###

From lunch to dinner, both Yumiko and Utaha arrived at separate times.

And unlike Miko's quiet morning, these two were far more enthusiastic.

One had already experienced it once, and the other was just as competitive.

Needless to say, both had their moments with Ryuu, and everything progressed naturally.

Miura Yumiko, in particular, made sure to arrive earlier in the afternoon so she wouldn't have to deal with Utaha's presence at night.

Kasumigaoka Utaha, of course, found it amusing and didn't even try to argue.

Instead, she took the entire evening for herself, knowing that spending the night was the true advantage.

It was the longest time slot, and she was fully aware of it.

December 24th

Both Ryuu's allies and enemies were preparing for the inevitable battle at sunset.

But in Ryuu's house, things were still peaceful.

At least, for now.

Morning – Waking Up with Utaha

Still feeling half-asleep, Kasumigaoka Utaha lazily reached for her phone, her vision blurred.

She checked the time and instinctively hit Ryuu on the arm.

"It's already noon."

Ryuu yawned, glanced at the clock, and waved a hand dismissively.

"It's fine. I only need four hours of rest, including travel time."

Utaha stared at him, then chuckled softly.

"You don't look like someone heading into a serious fight."

"Fight? No, I'm just going there to have fun." Ryuu smirked. "Strength alone is more than enough."

"You're way too confident."

Utaha rolled her burgundy eyes but leaned against his chest, her body perfectly relaxed.

"It's not confidence. It's just reality." Ryuu ran his fingers through her silky black hair.

"Besides, you knew I had something important today, and yet, you still refused to let me sleep last night."

"Oh? That's funny." Utaha blinked playfully. "Because I remember a certain someone being completely willing."

Ryuu smirked.

"And yet, every time you stay over, you act more playful than usual."

"Tyrannosaurus Rex."

"Huh?"

"That's what you are." Utaha grinned, tapping his forehead. "You see meat, and you bite."

Ryuu laughed, enjoying their banter.

But then he felt it—her hand subtly moving under the covers.

"You say that, but you're the one acting dishonestly."

"Didn't you complain about waking up late because of me?"

Utaha's fingers traced his skin teasingly.

"Well, as your personal writer, it's my duty to... cheer you up."

"Utaha."

"Hmm?"

"You're asking for trouble."

"I know." She smiled mischievously.

Noon

Thirty minutes later, Utaha finally escaped from Ryuu's grasp.

Her legs felt slightly weak, but her expression remained composed.

She grabbed her toothbrush, avoiding his smug gaze in the mirror.

After finishing up, she stepped out and saw Ryuu looking far too satisfied.

"You have way too much fun with this."

"And yet, you're the one who keeps encouraging it." Ryuu grinned.

Utaha clicked her tongue in frustration.

"Next time, you're not getting away."

"Next time?" Ryuu raised an eyebrow. "So you're already planning for more?"

Utaha's cheeks turned slightly pink, but she ignored the comment.

Instead, she fixed her clothes and stepped toward the door.

"Don't get yourself killed tonight."

"I won't. But if I do, I'll haunt you."

"Tch, annoying man."

But before she left, she turned back and smirked.

"Fine. If you come back in one piece, I'll reward you."

Ryuu's eyes narrowed with interest.

"Oh? What kind of reward?"

"I guess you'll just have to survive and find out."

With that, she closed the door behind her, leaving Ryuu fully awake and ready.

Evening

As Ryuu made his way toward Shinjuku, the streets were eerily empty.

The government's evacuation drills had successfully cleared out the civilians.

But unexpectedly, on a deserted street, Ryuu spotted a lone girl heading in the same direction.

She had long black hair and an aura that felt somewhat familiar.

Ryuu stopped in his tracks.

"Hey, you."

The girl froze, turning around with wide, surprised eyes.

"Are you... talking to me?"

There was a hint of disbelief, but also something else—as if she was hoping for this encounter.

Ryuu's instincts sharpened.

"What are you doing here? Shinjuku is closed off."

She hesitated for a moment, then stepped closer.

"I should be asking you the same thing."

Meanwhile, Elsewhere...

The sun had set, and the black curtain of night had fully fallen.

At that moment, far from Shinjuku, Geto Suguru stood before Jujutsu High.

He had already received confirmation from his allies—Ryuu had not arrived yet.

Geto smirked and pulled out his phone.

"It's time. Where are you?"

Ryuu's voice came through, calm as ever.

"Got delayed. Almost there."

"Take your time. My family can stall for a bit."

"Don't worry. I'll make sure to stop him."

As Geto hung up, his expression turned sharp.

"Come on, Gojo. Let's fight for the sake of justice."

And at that moment, the sky over Shinjuku was swallowed in darkness.

Thousands of cursed spirits emerged from the shadows, and the Hyakki Yakou had begun.
