Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 601: What Is the Sterling’s Background in Rivia?
Audrey Sutton listened to Jasmine Lucas, and couldn’t help but twitch her mouth. She quickly handed the hot business card back to her and said, "I don’t think I’ll need it."
Jasmine Lucas quickly added, "Ma’am, this business card is free, and if anything happens, you can directly ask for me with it and get a 20% discount. You might not know, but I’m an S-class agent in The White Mist Alliance. Not everyone can make an appointment with me, but with this card, it’s like having our alliance’s black card. Whenever you need, I’m just a call away."
Audrey Sutton, realizing something a bit late, asked her, "So... Brother Xavier was the target of your mission at that time?"
When Jasmine heard Faye Xavier’s name, she paused, knowing Audrey was Faye’s friend, worried that Audrey would distance herself because of Faye’s matter. Jasmine said, "Ma’am, you might not know, even if Xavier is your friend, it might not be right to speak ill of him in front of you, but you should be aware. I advise you to keep your distance from him."
Audrey Sutton knew that Faye had always been quite a scoundrel, but still couldn’t help asking out of curiosity, "What did he do?"
Jasmine Lucas said, "Simply put, he got someone pregnant and refused to take responsibility. The girl even took pills and attempted suicide, but she was saved, though the baby was gone. Her sister is part of our White Mist Alliance, so I taught Xavier a little lesson."
Audrey Sutton was surprised upon hearing this, "Got someone pregnant? How did you teach him a lesson?"
"His life is full of such messes. People like him are better off dead. Enough about him, let’s focus on our deal. You better keep this black card. I’m really thinking of your best interest. If you never have to use it, that’s great. But if one day things go bad and you lose love and suffer pain, our alliance will be your warmest harbor and most reliable support."
Audrey Sutton laughed awkwardly as Jasmine Lucas continued like a top-notch salesperson, "Oh, and you can also join us, become one of us. If you encounter this sort of thing, we’ll handle it for free. We have the most robust security system, ensuring you’re unharmed in case of an emergency during missions. We also have the best legal team to handle any divorce disputes and legal issues after missions."
Audrey Sutton had never heard of such an organization before, but it felt like a pyramid scheme.
She genuinely felt she didn’t need this stuff, but under Jasmine Lucas’s persistent persuasion, she still accepted the black card.
There was no other reason than wanting Jasmine Lucas to leave her alone.
She felt that if she didn’t take the card, Jasmine might pester her all night.
Jasmine returned to her table before Phoebe King came back.
When Phoebe King returned, Audrey Sutton quietly asked her, "Sister Phoebe, have you heard of The White Mist Alliance?"
"What alliance? A TV drama?"
It seemed she didn’t know. Audrey Sutton originally wanted to tell Phoebe what Jasmine Lucas had just told her, but Shane Warner arrived, so Audrey naturally dropped the topic.
As night fell, Faye Xavier went to the bar where he first met Jasmine Lucas. After asking around the place, no one recognized Jasmine Lucas.
All day, he waited near Jasmine Lucas’s residence but didn’t find any trace of her, not even online consumption records.
Thinking that Jasmine Lucas was surely an old hand, she had basic anti-surveillance skills. Having absconded with such a large amount of money, she must be lying low. Finding her would certainly be difficult now.
He planned to wait for her to drop her guard, and when she reappeared after a while, he was determined to catch her.
A gentleman’s revenge is never too late, even after ten years!
Three days later, November ended.
The sky was overcast, and a big tree in the yard had a few yellow leaves dangling from its bare branches.
A gentle breeze blew, and the leaves fell from the branches with the wind, drifting into a small stream outside the house, flowing gradually with the stream to a distant place.
Audrey Sutton finished breakfast, then wrapped herself in a blanket, curled up on the sofa watching TV, too cold to even move. A scarf she had repeatedly knitted and unraveled was left unused after two days of newness, now lying ignored in a small basket by the sofa.
Today, Shane Warner didn’t go to work. He was upstairs arranging the nursery, organizing the things Audrey had bought earlier into the room.
The reason Audrey didn’t go up to offer ideas was that Shane had already arranged the room several times. Whenever he got a chance, he would go in and fiddle with it a bit.
Hearing footsteps from upstairs, Audrey, who was lounging on the sofa, called out, "Honey!"
Not getting a response from Shane, she called out again, her voice louder, "Honey!"
Shane didn’t say anything but walked to the stair railing, standing upstairs, looking at her expressionlessly.
Audrey smiled at him and said, "Could you throw that pink pillow on the bed to me? The cushion on this sofa is too hard; it’s uncomfortable to lean on."
Shane turned around and headed into the bedroom, saying, "How lazy can you get every day?"
In no time, seeing Shane come out of the room with the pillow, Audrey sat up from the sofa, opened her arms, and said to him standing upstairs, "No need to come down, just throw it to me."
Shane glared at her, but still came down the stairs directly, handing the pillow to her personally, and asked, "What do you want for lunch?"
"Ding dong—"
Before Audrey could answer, the doorbell suddenly rang.
"Quick, go see if it’s Sister Phoebe, she said she might come today to check out the house."
"Playing mahjong or checking out the house?" Shane said with annoyance, walking over to open the door.
"Cousin..."
Once Audrey heard this voice, she straightened up on the sofa, glancing towards the door. Seeing Heath Holloway with a face full of bruises, she quickly threw off the blanket and got up from the sofa, "What happened?"
Shane saw Heath’s appearance but remained calm, or rather, nothing seemed to disturb his composed expression. Even if there was, he could suppress his surprise and continue pretending to be calm.
Even though Heath looked quite miserable, he still greeted Audrey with a cheeky grin, "Hello, sister-in-law."
Shane then coldly asked Heath, "What mess have you gotten into again?"
Heath sheepishly smiled and said, "Cousin, I’m nearly dying of thirst; can I come in and have a glass of water?"
Shane glared at him, annoyed, before taking out a pair of disposable slippers from the shoe cabinet and tossing them at Heath’s feet.
Audrey gave Heath a large glass of water, and Heath gulped it down in one go. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝐰𝚎𝕓𝐧𝚘𝘃𝗲𝐥.𝐜𝚘𝕞
After setting the glass down, he smiled guiltily, looking at Shane beside him, who was staring sternly, pursing his lips, "Cousin, what’s the deal with The Sterling in Rivia? Are they more powerful than you? How come mentioning your name doesn’t help?"
