Chapter 528: Chapter 528: I Want to Hear the Truth

Barry Barrett walked up to the sink, deliberately squeezing himself between two women.

He turned on the faucet, washing his hands while laughingly asking the two women beside him, "Do you know why President Warner married her instead of you?"

The woman, aware of Barry Barrett’s close relationship with Audrey Sutton, swallowed awkwardly. Even though she had countless reasons running through her mind, she didn’t dare speak as freely as before.

After washing his hands, Barry Barrett deliberately shook his hands hard, splattering water onto the two women, who frowned, visibly annoyed.

Not giving them a chance to speak, Barry Barrett said, "Hey, you guessed right. She’s young, pretty, and her family is rich. Doesn’t that make you envious?"

Barry Barrett pulled out a tissue while wiping his hands, saying, "Young Master Warner isn’t a fool. Who else would he marry if not her? You? What kind of toad are you?"

The woman in the low-cut shirt got angry, pointing at Barry Barrett and cursing, "What are you?"

Barry Barrett’s expression changed: "Oh dear, big sister, why are you so upset? We’re just chatting. Isn’t that what you two were doing just now? You can talk about others but not be talked about? Besides, I’m just being honest here, I’m honestly jealous of Audrey Sutton too. Why does she get all the good luck? So annoying!"

The other girl with glasses hurriedly diffused the situation, whispering, "Let it go." Then she pulled the woman in the low-cut shirt out of the restroom.

Hearing the quiet outside, Audrey Sutton pushed open the door, sticking her head out to take a look.

Barry Barrett glared at her without any good intentions: "Come out, come out. Why are you so timid? Don’t you have your husband to back you up? Next time someone gossips behind your back, just slap her."

Audrey Sutton tidied the hem of her dress, laughing dryly: "I promised him I wouldn’t cause trouble."

Barry Barrett: "But they’re causing trouble. Aren’t they completely ignoring you? Wouldn’t your husband be heartbroken if he knew you were suffering like this?"

Audrey Sutton laughed and went to wash her hands, saying, "People say all kinds of things. If I took it all to heart, wouldn’t I be exhausted? But Bear, I didn’t expect you to be so tough. I thought you’d hide with me and eavesdrop."

Barry Barrett let out a "humph": "This was me being polite. If it were Flora, the slaps would’ve come flying ages ago."

Audrey Sutton: "Forget it. After all, we’re just here to idle through the door, while they went through fierce competition to work here. It’s not surprising they have grievances."

When Audrey Sutton decided to come, she had anticipated this situation, just not so soon.

But as long as they respected her in person, she didn’t mind turning a blind eye to other things, making it easier for everyone.

A morning’s worth of work wasn’t physically tiring, but it made her feel particularly sleepy.

She’s been extremely drowsy these days, and coupled with the recent weather, she just couldn’t muster up the energy.

The company had a two-hour lunch break, and Barry Barrett, not one for naps, went back to the dormitory to play games.

Audrey Sutton didn’t have Barry Barrett’s energy these days. After lunch, she followed Shane back to the office, planning to take a nap there.

Watching Audrey Sutton fall asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow, Shane couldn’t tell if she really wasn’t tired or was just putting on a brave face during lunch.

With her pregnancy, Shane didn’t want her to work at the company at all and only hoped she could rest well.

So, when work resumed and Audrey Sutton still hadn’t woken up, he didn’t disturb her.

When Audrey Sutton finally woke naturally, it was almost 4 PM.

Upon waking, Audrey Sutton lay there for a moment, staring at the ceiling in a daze, before remembering she was supposed to be at work today.

She hurriedly grabbed her phone from the bedside and saw the time, jumping up in fright; thinking she had misread it, she rubbed her eyes before realizing she had overslept.

Barry Barrett had sent her numerous messages and called twice. She remembered setting an alarm, so why hadn’t she heard a thing?

Pressing the phone’s volume button, she discovered it had been silenced, something only Shane could’ve done.

Puffed up with anger, Audrey Sutton pushed open the door, intending to question Shane, only to find he wasn’t in the office.

No time to waste, she’d find him after work to settle this!

Audrey Sutton hurriedly stepped into the elevator, smoothing her hair in its reflective wall.

When she reached the finance department, everyone was hard at work. Audrey Sutton felt awkward, quickly scampering to her seat.

Barry Barrett immediately leaned in to ask quietly, "Where’d you go? I thought you quit."

Audrey Sutton replied with embarrassment, "I overslept. He turned off my alarm, so annoying!"

Barry Barrett knowingly smiled: "Third Young Master only cares about you, worried you’d get too tired."

Audrey Sutton furrowed her brow without speaking, quickly booting up her computer to finish the work she hadn’t completed in the morning.

Ten minutes later, Audrey Sutton lifted her head inadvertently only to spot a man standing at the door, looking at her.

Shane didn’t avoid her gaze; when he noticed she saw him, he offered her a slight smile.

Remembering her tardiness, Audrey Sutton didn’t give Shane a pleasant expression, rolling her eyes and focusing back on her work.

Initially, Shane thought Audrey Sutton’s enthusiasm would fade and she’d stop going to work after facing challenges.

But unexpectedly, she turned out to be resilient, maintaining punctuality and never complaining.

After work on Friday, they followed her whim to their usual sour soup hotpot restaurant.

As usual, Shane served her a bowl of soup first, offering it to her as he said, "Where do you want to play this weekend?"

Audrey Sutton blew on the steaming soup in her spoon, looking up to ask him, "You’re on break too?"

Shane nodded, "Seeing how well you’ve done at work, I’m rewarding you with this weekend. I’ll accompany you anywhere you want."

Shane expected her to be delighted by his words.

Surprisingly, she sipped the soup, silent and somewhat skeptical, and said, "...I have plans this weekend."

Shane frowned, pausing as he was about to serve more soup, looking at her and asking, "What plans? With whom?"

Audrey Sutton pursed her lips and replied, "Bear."

Hearing it was with a girl, Shane continued serving himself soup: "Where are you going?"

Audrey Sutton hesitated, then looked up playfully, "Do you want the truth or a lie?"

Shane glared at her, slightly more serious, saying, "I want the truth."
