Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 522: Went Out to Be With Another Woman
Phoebe rolled her eyes at Audrey Sutton. She reached out and took the phone that Audrey had been clutching in her hand and placed it on the coffee table, saying, "He’s almost thirty, not a child. You don’t need to worry about him anymore."
Audrey sat up, holding a pillow, and sighed deeply. "When I called him this afternoon, I heard his cough was worse than yesterday. He’s the kind of person who likes to act tough. If no one keeps an eye on him, he might just avoid seeing a doctor."
Phoebe said, "It’s his own body. If he can’t hold on any longer, he knows to see a doctor. Think about it; when you weren’t around him in the past, didn’t he take good care of himself? You shouldn’t be so worried about him like he’s a three-year-old child."
Audrey pondered in silence. Although she felt Phoebe was right, her heart was still restless.
Phoebe continued snacking on chips and watching her movie. After a couple of minutes, she suddenly turned her head and asked Audrey, "He caught a cold, so why did he insist on staying at the office?"
Audrey replied, "He said he was afraid of infecting me."
Phoebe said, "He could sleep on the sofa downstairs, or just wear a mask. There’s no need to stay at the office at all."
After two seconds of consideration, Phoebe added, "...Audrey, has he been acting strangely recently?"
Audrey paused, then shook her head. It was unclear whether she meant "no" or "I don’t know."
Phoebe elaborated, "For example, have you noticed if he’s been having little secrets lately? Like taking calls behind your back, keeping his phone with him and not leaving it around, or coming home later than usual at night?"
Audrey shook her head again. "I haven’t noticed much. I don’t check his phone, but he usually comes back quite early. Sister Phoebe, are you suspecting..."
Phoebe nodded. "I’m just worried he might find an excuse not to come home and actually be out with another woman."
Hearing this, Audrey straightened up and replied in a somewhat unsure tone, "...No way, right? He’s not that kind of person. Didn’t you also say before that he wouldn’t mess around?"
Phoebe said, "That was before; things are different now. Let me give you an analogy—a person who’s never eaten meat and eats vegetarian every day may do so because they’ve never had a taste of meat. They think veggie dishes are the best in the world. But once they’ve tasted meat, vegetables can’t satisfy them anymore, and they’ll crave meat every day."
Audrey asked, "What... what do you mean?"
Phoebe replied, "I mean, you are the ’meat’ in this analogy. Now you can’t ’be eaten’ due to special circumstances, but Shane might be craving. Is it possible that he might go out looking for other ’meat’?"
The more Audrey listened, the more uncertain she felt. She reached for the phone on the coffee table, hesitated before dialing, and asked Phoebe, "Sister Phoebe, should I call him?"
Phoebe chuckled, "If you don’t call, can you sleep tonight?"
Audrey thought that made sense and decided to video call him instead. Just a few seconds after she called, he picked up. On the video, he was still sitting at his desk, seemingly busy with work.
Due to his cold, his voice was slightly hoarse. "What’s up?"
Audrey stared intently at the video, her words a bit jumbled. "I... I just wanted to see you."
Shane Warner smiled and put down the pen in his hand. "Usually at home, you’re busy with your phone and not interested in me. Why are you suddenly so clingy today?"
Of course, Audrey wouldn’t reveal her real reason for calling. While she hesitated over how to explain, Phoebe leaned over and said to the phone, "Shane, you should come back soon. You haven’t seen how desolate my sister-in-law looks, holding her phone in this cold weather. How can you leave her all alone?"
Seeing Phoebe, Shane’s expression turned less tender than when speaking to Audrey, and his tone also grew colder. "Stop causing trouble. Look after her for me."
Audrey leaned in and asked him, "Are you still working?"
As she spoke, he bowed his head and coughed.
After he finished coughing, he nodded and replied, "Wrapping things up; I’m almost done."
Audrey pursed her lips and asked, "...Are you alone in the office?"
Shane replied, "Who else?"
From the natural way he answered, without sounding guilty or hesitant, it didn’t seem like he was lying.
However, Shane had always been good at hiding his true intentions. Even if he were lying, he could do so flawlessly, leaving Audrey still somewhat doubtful in her heart.
She nagged him a bit more before ending the call.
Phoebe said, "I just checked the glass behind him carefully. I didn’t see anyone else there. He probably isn’t lying."
Audrey replied, "The lounge is in another room. What if he saw my video call and told the woman to hide?"
Phoebe squinted playfully at Audrey, "It seems you really don’t trust Shane."
Audrey said, "It’s just that you made a good point earlier. Before I got pregnant, his desires were quite frequent. And since the pregnancy, he hasn’t brought it up, but I doubt his needs have changed. So... honestly, I find his decision to suddenly stay at the company suspicious."
Phoebe said, "Isn’t Mor working in the same company as him? How about I call and ask Mor?"
Audrey replied, "They’re on the same side. Even if there were something, Mor would definitely help him hide it. I think I better go there myself!"
Phoebe was shocked, "Now?"
Audrey nodded, dropping the pillow and standing up. "Quickly, change your clothes!"
Phoebe lamented, "My little ancestor, you really have too much energy. Aren’t snacks and movies enough for you?"
Half an hour later, a dark green Bentley parked on the roadside outside the company building.
Audrey first rolled down the window to take a look around.
At this hour, the company seemed deserted, with only a few dim lights on in the ground-floor lobby.
After finding a parking spot, Phoebe parked the car. Upon getting out, Audrey headed straight to the security room.
The guard on duty recognized her and hurriedly stood up to ask, "Madam, what brings you here so late?"
Audrey pointed inside the company and asked, "Is Third Young Master inside?"
The guard paused, hesitating before replying, "Third Young Master just drove out."
A sudden "thud" echoed in Audrey’s heart, presenting an image in her mind of Shane sneaking out to be with another woman.
Phoebe pressed further, "How long has he been out?"
After thinking for a moment, the guard said, "About ten minutes or so? Last night, Third Young Master stayed at the company. Not sure if he’ll come back later or not."
