Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 518: You’re Not as Immature as Her
This little girl seems to be reminiscing about her deceased mother, but she’s actually saying that she’s nagging like an old aunt.
Laura Yates maintained her smile and said, "Then you should behave even more because your mom has turned into a Little Star and is watching you from the sky."
Yara smiled dreamily but said, "I think she would definitely want me to be happy now."
Franklin Sutton watched as the two seemed to be having a harmonious chat, finding it strange. He thought, wasn’t Laura Yates previously upset with this little girl and didn’t even want to marry him because of her? How come she’s being so kind to the girl now?
He said, "Yara, what’s past is past. You should strive harder for your future now."
Yara said, "Franklin, I’ll listen, but can you not leave me alone? If you leave again, there will really be no one by my side."
Laura Yates jokingly said, "He’s so busy with work that he doesn’t even have time for me, let alone for you."
Yara quickly said, "I don’t need you to visit me often, just chat with me occasionally, otherwise, I feel suffocated."
Laura Yates laughed and said, "He doesn’t even have time to chat with me, how would he have time to talk with you? I have an idea, why not add my WhatsApp? I have more free time and can chat with you, plus girls usually have more to talk about. He’s a rough guy who probably doesn’t know how to comfort a little girl."
Laura Yates was about to take out her phone from her bag to add her WhatsApp, but Yara awkwardly smiled and said, "No... No need to bother you, I only occasionally ask Franklin about study questions and he’s really smart, can answer anything."
Laura Yates smiled and said, "For study questions, isn’t it better to ask the teachers? Your Franklin is a cop, his job is to uphold justice, using him as your personal tutor is a waste of talent. Besides, teachers are there to help you with your studies and I believe they will be eager to help you."
Yara’s smile became increasingly awkward, feeling like she hadn’t been able to chat much with Franklin because Laura Yates kept interrupting.
Franklin Sutton finally realized Laura Yates wasn’t genuinely being kind. Afraid to upset her further, Franklin told Yara, "It’s getting late, you should head back to school, otherwise your teachers might call Uncle Quinne."
Yara questioned, "But weren’t they supposed to call you if anything was up?"
Franklin Sutton said, "Yara, I’m really busy, I have my own family to care for and don’t really have the time for you. Although I sympathize with your situation, there are government aids to help you and many kind-hearted people in society who care about you. Also, your school teachers and classmates are supportive. Besides, you’re not that young anymore. It’s time to learn to be independent and not always rely on others."
Listening to this, tears immediately streamed down Yara’s face: "So, are you saying you won’t take care of me anymore, Franklin?"
Franklin Sutton sighed and said, "I don’t have the responsibility or obligation. My job was to catch the murderer of your parents, and now that the murderer is caught, I’ve fulfilled my duty. There are many others who have shared the same or worse fates as you. They don’t use their tragedy to seek sympathy but carry on with the hope their family had for them to live better, working hard towards a better life."
Yara stared blankly at Franklin Sutton and then choked out, "...I understand. Sorry for troubling you, I will no longer disturb your lives."
With that, the little girl wiped her tears with her hands and turned away.
Laura Yates glanced at the ward door, then at Franklin Sutton, asking, "If you could get up, would you go after her?"
Franklin Sutton frowned in confusion, "Why would I chase after her?"
Laura Yates said, "Aren’t you worried something might happen to her after she leaves?"
Franklin Sutton said, "She’s a grown-up, what’s there to worry about? Her life is her own, if she doesn’t want to live, no one can save her."
Laura Yates cut the apple in her hand into pieces and said, "What if it were me who ran out? Would you come after me?"
Franklin Sutton replied without hesitation, "You’re not as clueless as she is."
Although it wasn’t the answer Laura Yates wanted, it seemed to make sense.
She put a piece of apple in her mouth and asked again, "Were those things you said just because I’m here?"
Franklin Sutton said, "I wanted to tell her for a long time. I understood initially after her parents’ accident, she was grieving, but it’s been a while now. How long can she keep this up?"
Laura Yates realized that Franklin Sutton’s lack of empathy actually became a merit.
If he had pitied Yara and acted indecisive, she’d probably be more frustrated.
Laura Yates continued eating her apple, commenting lightly, "If I hadn’t argued with you, I feel you wouldn’t have realized this, maybe you’d still be caring about her every day on WhatsApp."
Hearing her dig up the past more and more, Franklin Sutton guessed she might be harping on old grievances, so he smiled and said, "It sounds like that apple is quite crisp."
Laura Yates glanced at him with a smile, "The doctor said you can’t eat yet, just hold on, I’ll cut some for you tomorrow."
Franklin Sutton sighed dramatically, looked up at the IV drip, and said, "The infusion is almost done, go call a nurse to remove the needle, then you should get some sleep."
Saying this, he patted the empty spot beside him, "Just sleep here."
Laura Yates put down the apple and fruit knife, got up, and said, "In your dreams, who wants to sleep with you? I’ll go get a cot."
...
Audrey Sutton and Shane left the hospital and headed straight home.
Now, she doesn’t need his repeated orders to sleep; she lies in bed, looks at her phone for a bit, and falls asleep.
Even while pregnant, she still doesn’t sleep quietly. 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝘦𝓌𝑒𝑏𝑛𝑜𝘷𝑒𝘭.𝒸𝘰𝑚
In the time it took him to review a document, she managed to sprawled across the middle of the bed from the side.
Shane chuckled, took his phone, and snapped a photo of her sleeping posture.
He then checked a recipe on his phone, decided what to make for breakfast tomorrow, and put the phone down. He adjusted her sleeping position to be more orderly, pulled out the Mr. Bunny she initially hugged to sleep, tossed it to the foot of the bed, climbed under the covers, turned out the bedside lamp, and held her as he closed his eyes.
In the middle of the night, Audrey Sutton was woken by Shane’s coughing. She went to the bathroom and upon returning, heard Shane still coughing. She walked over and patted him, "Did you catch a cold? You keep coughing."
Shane looked at her and said, "No worries, my throat is just a bit uncomfortable."
Audrey Sutton said, "I told you to dress warmer with the recent cold spell, but you didn’t listen. Wait here, I’ll get some cold medicine for you."
