Chapter 517: Chapter 517: Call Me Sister-in-Law

Norman Sutton muttered with a pout, "I don’t want to stay here. The bed at home is bigger and more comfortable. Who likes staying here smelling the disinfectant?"

Hazel Yates didn’t tease Norman Sutton any further, knowing that Evan Sutton was well-regarded among the hospital staff. He could easily ask someone to look after Franklin Sutton, so it was fine for Laura Yates to stay here alone, and she thought they should have more time to themselves.

After some reminders, the "big group" gradually left.

The hospital room quieted down. Laura Yates sat by the bed, looked up at the half-full IV drip, and asked, "Does the wound hurt?"

Franklin Sutton took a deep breath and said, "A bit. The anesthetic has worn off."

Laura Yates glared at him, "Serves you right."

Franklin Sutton chuckled, took her hand, and asked, "Have you chosen the wedding dress?"

Laura Yates looked down at his big hand, covered in abrasions, as if they had been scraped on something rough. It looked quite painful.

Letting him hold her hand, she softly said, "Yes, and we’re having your big brother’s wedding together with ours."

Franklin Sutton frowned in confusion, "My big brother? Didn’t he say there was no rush? Is he marrying that Phoebe?"

Laura Yates nodded, "Today I tried on wedding dresses with Phoebe."

Franklin Sutton asked, "What do they look like? Do you have pictures? Let me see."

Laura Yates smiled and shook her head, "You’ll find out when the time comes."

Franklin Sutton laughed, "Still keeping me in suspense."

Laura Yates took a deep breath and said, "Just now, old man Quinne from your department said you should take your time to recover well, and return to work after the wedding."

Franklin Sutton immediately said, "That’s too long! I’ll be discharged in two or three days."

Laura Yates looked at him unsatisfied, with a little bit of selfishness, and said, "Can’t you just stay with me? Don’t you care about the wedding at all? They’ve given you time off, and yet you still want to squeeze in time to get back to work. Why can’t you think about sneaking some time to be with me?"

Franklin Sutton looked at her displeased frown, still smiling, "Sorry Laura, I’ve upset you again. I promise, these days I’ll go nowhere, just stay by your side, wherever you go, I’ll follow."

Laura Yates glared at him and said, "Also, I’ve told you over and over again to be careful on missions, but you find me nagging. Do you ever really listen to me?"

Franklin Sutton said, "Not nagging, I love hearing it no matter how many times you say it."

Laura Yates said, "I don’t want to say it that many times! Remember it yourself!"

Franklin Sutton still looked at her with a smile, his tone full of compliance, "Okay, I’ll remember everything you say with full attention."

Laura Yates said, "Every time you agree quickly, but then forget it in a blink! Do you know how worried I am every time you have a mission? I know you love your job, but you’re not alone now. You should think about me too. I understand you, but shouldn’t you consider me a bit? What if something happens to you? If we have kids in the future and you charge into everything regardless of the consequences and something happens, am I supposed to raise the kids alone for the rest of my life?"

Laura Yates’ eyes reddened as she spoke, and Franklin Sutton’s affectionate smile gradually turned into a look of concern. He held her hand tighter, "I promise you, Laura, I’ll be extra careful with everything from now on, and won’t let you worry anymore."

"Creak—"

Just as Franklin Sutton finished speaking, they heard the sound of the ward door being gently pushed open.

Laura Yates thought it might be the doctor coming to check on Franklin Sutton, but when she looked towards the door, she only saw a sneaky little girl peeking her head into the room.

Laura Yates was curious about who this girl was, when she heard Franklin Sutton speak, "Yara, why are you here?"

The girl stood up straight, looked at Franklin Sutton and then at Laura Yates, clearly feeling a bit restrained due to Laura’s presence, "Are you okay, Franklin? I haven’t been able to contact you for days. When I went to the police station to find Uncle Quinne today, he said you were hurt, so I came to see you..."

Hearing the term "Franklin," Laura Yates immediately understood who this girl was.

This was the girl who kept sending Franklin messages before.

She seemed even younger than Laura had imagined, perhaps just fifteen or sixteen, dressed decently, with shoulder-length black hair, appearing very innocent and harmless. Her timid eyes even evoked a bit of sympathy.

Franklin Sutton discreetly glanced at Laura Yates’ expression and whispered to her, "Laura, this is that girl from before."

Laura Yates had already learned from the girl’s words, knowing that after their last fight, Franklin Sutton indeed hadn’t contacted this girl again, so she had no reason to make a fuss with him.

To deal with such a green tea girl, it was best for a woman to step in.

Laura Yates smiled at the girl, stood up and said, "You’re Yara, right? Since you’re here, come in and sit for a while."

Yara timidly looked at her, then smiled awkwardly and nodded, "Thank you, sister."

Laura Yates gave her chair to Yara and sat on the edge of Franklin Sutton’s bed, picked up the fruit knife on the bedside, and while peeling an apple, she smiled and said, "I heard you call him Franklin brother, so don’t call me sister. Call me sister-in-law, it feels closer."

Yara’s face showed a bit of embarrassment, looking at Laura Yates and then at Franklin Sutton.

Laura Yates noticed Yara wasn’t surprised at all, clearly indicating she was aware of her presence.

Even though Franklin Sutton was a bit of a straight man, he liked to show off his girlfriend on social media. So this young girl probably knew about her from his posts.

Knowing the other party had a girlfriend yet still clinging on, that was a problem with her values.

"Franklin brother, where are you hurt? Does it hurt?"

Franklin Sutton smiled and said, "It’s nothing, a minor injury. It’s so late, why aren’t you at school and come out here?"

Yara looked a bit more aggrieved, "I was worried about you. You haven’t been replying to my messages for a while, and when I heard you were hurt, I secretly came out to see you."

Laura Yates interjected with a smile, "I never thought he could have a young girl caring about him. Yara, don’t worry, he’s got his sister-in-law taking care of him. You should focus on your studies. At your age, education is the most important. Don’t put your mind on unnecessary things, as it might affect your studies, and that could hold you back for a lifetime."

Yara smiled, "When my mom was alive, she often nagged me like this too."

Laura Yates paused her apple peeling, suddenly feeling like she had underestimated her.
