Chapter 328: Chapter 328: The Murderer Is Caught

The shopping cart was almost full again, with fruits, vegetables, and meat taking up half of it. Shane even added a couple of cans of the fruit syrup Hazel Yates usually ate, and slipped in two bags of chips, along with various miscellaneous household items. Finally, she spotted an adorable little baby bottle and, even though there was still no news about the baby, she put the bottle into the cart anyway.

They waited in line to check out for quite a while. While queuing, Audrey Sutton discreetly added two packs of jelly into the shopping cart.

Shane Warner saw her and glared at her. She smiled at him sweetly, placating him, and he turned a blind eye.

After paying, it was nearly 11 o’clock. Knowing they still had to clean up and make lunch after returning home, they didn’t delay further, pushing the shopping cart directly to the supermarket’s underground parking lot.

The supermarket was huge, and the parking lot was built spaciously as well, extending over three floors.

Audrey Sutton couldn’t remember where they parked their car but vaguely recalled that it was quite close to the elevator; they reached it after just a few steps from where they got off.

Shane Warner took out his car keys and pressed a button, and the sound of the car unlocking echoed through the empty parking lot as the car lights flashed, helping Audrey Sutton find the way.

Right next to the car was a large square stone pillar. From their current angle, they couldn’t see behind the pillar.

Shane Warner was pushing the shopping cart, and Audrey Sutton took out a jelly, eating it while saying, "This peach flavor is quite nice. Do you want a taste?"

Looking at the spoon she offered, Shane Warner turned his head aside disdainfully, silently refusing.

Audrey Sutton pouted and popped the jelly spoon directly into her own mouth, then happily discussed what they should have for lunch with Shane Warner.

No one noticed the lurking threat hiding in the shadows.

Shane Warner pushed the cart to the trunk, and Audrey Sutton helped to pack the groceries from the cart into the trunk, suggesting, "How about we each cook one dish? Let’s see who makes it better."

Shane Warner chuckled, "Who could outdo you?"

"How do I cheat?"

"Isn’t it up to you to decide what tastes good?"

Audrey Sutton picked up an apple that had fallen out of the bag and placed it back inside. Shane Warner lifted the entire bag of apples, arranging them in the trunk.

"I’ll return the shopping cart." Audrey Sutton pushed the now-empty cart, ready to head to the nearby return point.

Behind the stone pillar, Nathan Finnegan tightened his grip on the knife. As Audrey Sutton appeared in his line of sight, her peripheral vision also caught the shadow on this side. When she turned to look over, Nathan Finnegan suddenly charged out...

"Ah—" Seeing the knife gleaming under the parking lot lights, Audrey Sutton screamed, instinctually trying to run away.

But Nathan Finnegan was too close to her. He charged forward, thrusting the knife straight towards Audrey Sutton’s heart...

Realizing the odd situation, Shane Warner instantly reached out to pull Audrey Sutton towards him.

The knife was deflected, leaving a not-too-deep but not-too-shallow cut on Audrey Sutton’s arm. Blood immediately trickled down her arm.

Without giving Shane Warner a chance to check the wound, Nathan Finnegan, seeing that he missed, immediately rushed towards Audrey Sutton again with the knife.

Reacting quickly, Shane Warner pulled Audrey Sutton behind him, instinctively reaching out to block the knife aimed at them.

Though he managed to stop the stab, he grabbed the blade in the chaos. Nathan Finnegan quickly withdrew the knife from Shane Warner’s hand, mercilessly swinging it wildly without a target.

Ignoring the pain from the wound on his hand, Shane Warner used his other hand to push Audrey Sutton away, saying, "Get in the car."

Audrey Sutton was terrified, frozen by the almost frenzied Nathan Finnegan wielding the knife. She didn’t dare go forward or run away.

Watching the blood dripping to the ground, she shakily pulled out her phone from her bag but didn’t know whether to call 110 or 120 first.

"Stop! Don’t move!"

Audrey Sutton had barely typed in 110 but hadn’t dialed when the parking lot erupted in noise. Suddenly, a dozen armed SWAT officers in police uniforms emerged from all directions.

Seeing Franklin Sutton hurrying out from the police car, Audrey Sutton finally felt a sense of relief.

The arrival of the police threw Nathan Finnegan into a panic. In that moment of distraction, Shane Warner took the opportunity to knock the knife out of his hand and kicked it far away.

Realizing this, Nathan Finnegan broke free from Shane Warner’s hold and, in desperation, tried to escape, only to find that armed SWAT officers had surrounded him.

Instead of raising his hands in surrender, Nathan Finnegan frantically grabbed the shopping cart Audrey Sutton had dropped earlier.

He lifted it and hurled it towards Audrey Sutton.

By the time Audrey Sutton reacted, Shane Warner was already in front of her, shielding her...

After Shane Warner’s groaned, the sound of the shopping cart crashing to the ground followed.

"Bang—"

A gunshot rang out in the empty parking lot, and Nathan Finnegan fell to the ground.

Audrey Sutton was stunned in Shane Warner’s embrace. His body blocked her view as he pressed her head down, preventing her from seeing the gruesome, bloody scene behind...

It was noisy around them. The ringing in her ears from the gunshot hadn’t fully faded when the wailing of the ambulance sirens grew louder and closer, accompanied by Franklin Sutton’s shouting, questioning why his subordinate fired a shot...

As the medical staff rushed over, Shane Warner suddenly lost the strength to support himself, collapsing onto Audrey Sutton.

Audrey Sutton held him in her arms, tears streaming as she anxiously and worriedly called his name.

The medical staff hurried over, lifting Shane Warner into the ambulance. Audrey Sutton followed in the same ambulance to the hospital.

Nathan Finnegan hadn’t even managed to get on a stretcher. When the doctor came over to check, he shook his head, indicating that there was nothing more they could do.

Franklin Sutton stood by with his hands in his waistband, frowned, and sighed before turning to vent his anger at the silent man beside him, "Who authorized you to fire?!"

The man, with his head down, explained, "He was resisting arrest and attacking bystanders. I fired to protect the victims’ safety."

"The knife had already fallen, and he couldn’t escape. Why did you still fire?!" Franklin Sutton questioned, furious as he turned away, "You can explain yourself to the Chief back at the station."

Hospital.

Audrey Sutton’s arm received simple bandaging as she anxiously waited outside the emergency room.

Shane Warner’s parents were still abroad and unaware of Shane Warner’s injury.

Hazel Yates and Samuel Sutton were the first to arrive at the hospital, and their brother, who worked there, also stopped by to check on the situation.

Shane Warner hadn’t yet emerged from the emergency room when news of "the murderous criminal being apprehended" spread online.
