Chapter 265: Chapter 265: I’m Here

With the maze’s map and Shane Warner’s excellent sense of direction, it took just half an hour to get out of the maze.

At the beginning, Shane was aimlessly wandering after Audrey Sutton. If he had led the way from the start, they might have come out even faster.

Soon after they got out, Nolan Hawke also came out with Barry Barrett.

Barry Barrett himself had a good sense of direction, and Nolan seemed like a very smart person as well. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖

As for why the two of them came out later than Audrey and Shane, and what they were secretly up to in the maze, only they would know.

By the time they emerged from the maze, it was already getting dark.

The park closed at nine in the evening, and it was now six in the evening.

They had played most of the rides they wanted to, but they couldn’t go on the water rides since they didn’t have a change of clothes.

Audrey Sutton looked a bit tired from playing, not as enthusiastic as when she arrived, and suggested finding a place to have dinner first.

There was a commercial street in the park, and they chose a Western restaurant.

All four of them sat in a booth, with two on each side.

While eating, Audrey talked to Nolan Hawke about an art photoshoot. Most likely due to Shane Warner’s influence, Nolan agreed quite readily.

Normally, without any connections, even booking Nolan a month in advance might not be possible.

Counting the first time accompanying Barry, the last portrait shoot, today marked Audrey and Nolan’s third interaction.

By the end of the meal, Audrey felt Barry had found the right person this time—Nolan was quite decent.

Putting aside his career, his temperament was very good: mild and attentive, always making sure Barry knew how important she was to him.

This was something Audrey thought Shane Warner could never achieve in his lifetime.

After leaving the restaurant, it was seven-thirty in the evening.

The early spring night was quite chilly, and Audrey’s skirt was only knee-length, causing her to shiver from the cold evening breeze.

Shane glanced at her. His gaze seemed cold and distant as if he didn’t want to mind Audrey, but his hands were already taking off his jacket.

Audrey felt warmth on her shoulder and turned her head to Shane, squinting her eyes and giving him a sweet smile, her gaze showing affection: "Thank you."

Shane kept a stern face, still maintaining his usual high pride.

Next to them, Nolan asked Barry, "Are you cold?"

Barry shook her head: "I’m wearing more than Audrey, and my skirt is long, so I’m not cold."

While putting her hands into the jacket sleeves, Audrey said, "I thought it wouldn’t be cold since the sun was so strong at noon."

Nolan chuckled lightly, saying, "The temperature difference between morning and evening is still quite large nowadays."

At night, the colorful lights of the amusement park lit up, showing a different scenery.

From afar, they could see the Ferris wheel slowly rotating, and Audrey pointed in that direction: "Shall we take a ride on the Ferris wheel before we go back? The night view from up there must be beautiful at this time."

Barry agreed with both hands raised in approval, and the two men naturally followed behind them.

On their way to the Ferris wheel, they passed the haunted house.

The two women tugged at each other as they reached the entrance, whispering under their breaths with apparent interest as they read the haunted house’s introduction.

Audrey waved at Shane: "Shall we try this one?"

Shane coldly reminded her, "Weren’t we going to the Ferris wheel? It might close soon."

Audrey replied, "This won’t take long, just a few minutes for a quick look around and we’ll be out."

Barry mercilessly retorted, "You say that so easily, but with your timidness, don’t rush out the moment you step inside."

"Who’s scared of who? It’s all fake; I’m not afraid at all."

With that said, Audrey found herself at the back of the line.

She was the kind of person who was curious yet timid. While she’d say "it’s all fake; it’s not scary," seeing people emerge in a frightful panic made Audrey lose her earlier confidence.

Murmuring to herself, she said, "It can’t be that scary, can it? They’re all just staff dressed as ghosts."

"Are you scared?" She suddenly turned to ask Shane behind her.

Shane coolly replied with two words, "Boring."

The line quickly moved forward, and soon it was Audrey’s turn.

As soon as she entered, she tightly grabbed Shane’s hand. Initially, she was in front, but then she pushed Shane ahead: "You go first."

Unfazed, Shane walked in, and as he lifted the curtain, the eerie green lights and horrifying music made Audrey’s hair stand on end.

Images from horror movies popped into her mind.

There might be a "corpse" suddenly dropping down, a ghostly face appearing in front of her, or someone lying on a bed suddenly sitting up and lunging at her...

She imagined countless scenarios, thinking she was mentally prepared.

Yet, at the first scene, the sudden gust of cold air at her feet made Audrey scream and stomp.

Shane, wearing only a shirt, felt her grip on his arm tighten as if she’d rip the flesh off. She held on tightly, whispering something under her breath, when suddenly a disheveled mannequin head fell, coincidentally landing on Audrey’s shoulder before rolling to the floor, accompanied by her loud scream, as she reflexively kicked it away.

She clung to his arm with both hands, continuously saying, "Let’s get out quickly, please."

Shane chuckled and deliberately slowed down his pace.

By the third scene, she was almost walking with her eyes closed, following him, with continuous muttering and occasional screams, but in Shane’s ears, it didn’t sound noisy.

In fact, when the mannequin head fell earlier, he was a bit startled too.

He just didn’t show it.

He kept pushing forward, as he still had to lead her while facing the eerie scenes and potential scares ahead.

He started to question why he had come to such a spooky place.

Later on, real staff dressed as "ghosts" appeared, reaching out to touch people.

With her eyes still closed, Audrey suddenly felt something tap her back and screamed at top speed, darting into Shane’s arms: "Something touched me! There’s something!"

Seeing her genuinely frightened, Shane found it both amusing and exasperating, since it was her idea to come in.

He shielded her, soothingly saying, "I’m here."

Those simple words acted as the firmest reassurance for Audrey.

It calmed her down considerably, and after glancing back and seeing nothing strange, she grabbed his hand, urging him on frantically: "Hurry up, I want to get out, why is this place so long?"
