Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 243: A Different Kind of Experience
Audrey Sutton was chatting with Phoebe King when Stephen Sutton came downstairs again.
"Big brother." Audrey greeted him sweetly.
Stephen merely nodded slightly, glancing at Audrey and then at Phoebe, who was sitting right next to her.
Obviously, Phoebe’s presence affected his mood, and his attitude towards Audrey wasn’t as warm as usual.
Seeing Stephen heading straight for the door, Phoebe discreetly nudged Audrey with her elbow. Audrey caught on immediately and asked Stephen, "Big brother, where are you going?"
"Out to get something."
"Oh, then come back soon, we’re about to eat."
"Alright."
After watching Stephen leave, Phoebe’s gaze lingered at the door, and she tentatively asked Audrey, "...Your big brother doesn’t dislike women, does he?"
"Huh?!" Audrey was evidently blindsided by the suggestion and felt quite surprised when Phoebe asked, "No... No way? I’ve never seen him get particularly close to any guy either."
Phoebe whispered, "You have so many brothers, after all."
Audrey: "..."
Even though she draws that type of comic, her brothers are all straight guys.
Phoebe murmured doubtfully, "Otherwise, why doesn’t he have any feelings for me?"
"Maybe he’s just being coy?"
"Does he seem like it?" Phoebe asked, then answered herself, "I think he really resists me."
Audrey: "Have you thought about giving up since he keeps rejecting you?"
Phoebe answered swiftly, "Of course, if he and Rosalind Sherman really hit it off during their matchmaking, then naturally, I wouldn’t have any chance. But luckily, he doesn’t like Rosalind either."
Audrey chuckled, "Honestly, I’d prefer you to be my sister-in-law."
"No, no, you’re the sister-in-law."
Initially, Audrey thought Phoebe was just as Shane Warner described her—temporarily fascinated.
But seeing Phoebe’s current stance, it seems she won’t back down easily.
However, it’s still up to her big brother who his sister-in-law will be.
During lunch, it was just the five of them.
Although Phoebe was sitting next to Audrey, her gaze often wandered to Stephen, who was sitting diagonally opposite her.
Stephen kept his head down, eating quietly and completely ignoring Phoebe’s fervent gaze.
"Stephen, have you been in touch with Rosie recently?"
Hazel Yates asked a question that Phoebe was also very curious about, and she immediately looked up at Stephen, hearing him answer, "Yes."
Hazel smiled with relief and continued, "Then what do you think of Rosie?"
Stephen responded concisely, "She’s alright."
"See, the more you interact, the more you’ll learn about each other. You’ll come to like Rosie. She’s well-mannered and a good person. Don’t miss out on something good. You’re over thirty now; it’s time to settle down." Hazel reiterated advice she’d given Stephen countless times.
Stephen always had a good temperament, patiently nodding each time and replying, "Got it, Mom."
"You always respond quickly but never really take my words to heart."
Stephen kept his head down and said nothing.
Hazel Yates: "What’s Summer been up to lately? Invite her over for a meal if she’s free."
Stephen responded, "Her studio just opened, and she’s quite busy, so she might not have time to come." 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
"I see, then try to go help her when you can."
Phoebe pondered while spooning food into her mouth, it seemed Stephen’s private dealings with Rosalind were quite close.
Every time she sent a message, it was like he didn’t see it; why did he treat her differently?
He didn’t even give her a fair chance to compete.
"Phoebe, don’t just focus on eating, have some more vegetables,"
Phoebe regained focus, "Okay, thanks, Aunt."
"No need to be so formal. We’re all family; feel free to come anytime."
Phoebe smiled and nodded, sneaking a peek at Stephen.
His dark expression clearly showed he didn’t welcome her presence.
Her heart was made of flesh too, and although she always acted indifferent when he rejected her, it still stung a little internally.
He seemed like such a gentle man, yet how could he be so heartless towards her?
After the meal, Stephen left, claiming he had matters at school.
Audrey got in touch with Shane Warner to bring him lunch, and Phoebe left the house with Audrey.
"Audrey, do you have plans for the afternoon?"
"Why?"
"I want to go shopping for clothes."
Audrey agreed cheerfully, since the season was changing, she’d been planning to go shopping herself.
Phoebe’s main reason for wanting to buy clothes wasn’t because of the season change but because she thought about her outward differences with Rosalind Sherman.
Her usual fashion style is dynamic but doesn’t fall under the so-called "well-mannered" category, leaving an impression that’s not quite like a model student.
She wondered if that’s why she’s losing to Rosalind Sherman.
Audrey handed the lunchbox to the company front desk for delivery, too busy planning her outing with Phoebe to go upstairs herself.
While sitting in Phoebe’s car headed towards the pedestrian mall, Audrey received a message from Shane Warner: Where’d you run off to? Too lazy to come upstairs? That busy?
Audrey looked at the message and chuckled, typing a reply: Going shopping with Sister Phoebe, didn’t want to keep her waiting too long, so I didn’t come up.
Shane Warner: Not asking me for money?
Audrey: I’ve got my own, just got paid for my manuscript.
Then she added another message: But I’d appreciate it if you’re willing to give some.
Finally, she sent a cute cat emoji.
Shane Warner: Report the bill when back.
Phoebe bought a lot of elegant style clothes, while Audrey leaned towards mature styles.
While shopping, they noticed a store selling intimate apparel.
Phoebe paused to look at the store, then glanced at Audrey, suggesting, "Wanna check it out?"
Audrey eyed the barely-there lace lingerie on the mannequin at the entrance and felt a bit embarrassed, "You gonna buy something?"
"I’ll help you pick something out."
Audrey: "...Why would I buy this?"
Phoebe: "You need to add some spark to married life to keep it fresh, right? Even if Shane is currently crazy about you, that initial excitement eventually fades. Otherwise, why would there be so much marital cheating? You have to create some intrigue, give him a new experience every time."
Audrey: "..."
Why did she find Phoebe’s reasoning quite convincing?
Audrey’s feet, seemingly having a mind of their own, followed Phoebe into the store.
