Chapter 235: Chapter 235: A Familiar Translator

When they arrived at the convention center, there was about half an hour left until the opening.

They happened to see a group of models invited for the exhibition stepping down from their cars, each of them boasting long legs and enviable figures.

Audrey Sutton was no exception; she stared wide-eyed.

Audrey turned to see if Shane Warner’s gaze was also fixed on the crowd of beauties, but as she turned, she found Shane’s attention was focused elsewhere, where an elderly foreign gentleman with gray hair was being assisted by an aide as he walked over.

He looked like a well-respected figure in the jewelry and accessory industry, and Audrey thought she might have seen him in a magazine before.

Shane engaged happily with the gentleman in English, chatting mostly about everyday matters.

Then, they walked into the venue together.

Audrey initially thought it would just be many brand booths displayed, but the scene was much grander than she had imagined, and the format was quite different from anything she’d anticipated.

In the center of the exhibition hall lay a big runway; there should be a fashion show soon.

Shane must be quite famous in the circle, as there were people greeting him along the way. Audrey simply stood obediently by his side, maintaining a smile.

She noticed that other individuals often had teams and translators with them. As a middle-aged man walked toward them, Shane smiled and shook his hand.

The man was accompanied by a young Eastern-faced woman who was his translator. Shane spoke English with him, and the translation by the woman seemed to be in a minor language that Audrey couldn’t identify.

Audrey felt the woman looked somewhat familiar, and as Shane and the man engaged in conversation, Audrey kept staring at the translator.

Short wavy hair, an Eastern woman...

Her figure seemed a lot like the girl Shane bumped into when leaving the convenience store yesterday.

Suddenly, Audrey’s mind filled in scenes from an idol drama, imagining an unexpected encounter followed by a fateful meeting, where the protagonists embark on a peculiar romantic journey...

The woman had quite a lovely face; her attire was mature, yet she didn’t seem much older and was taller than Audrey. She felt this type was probably to Shane’s liking.

Thinking about this, Audrey subconsciously tightened her grip on Shane’s arm.

Then she delved into another bout of introspection, wondering if she was overreacting. Shane and the woman were merely exchanging translations, yet she’d instinctively seen her as a threat.

After several minutes of chatting, the man and the translator walked away, and Audrey finally asked Shane, "Do you think the translator looks familiar?"

She wanted to confirm whether Shane still remembered their brief encounter with the woman last night.

Shane’s gaze lingered thoughtfully on the woman’s back for a couple of seconds before he replied, "A bit."

Audrey: "..."

"Do you still remember?" she was referring to last night’s convenience store incident.

Shane glanced down at her, puzzled as to why she’d suddenly ask such a question, yet he felt she wouldn’t know the translator.

Because he thought the translator resembled the girl who had once been by Vincent Warner’s side.

Shane didn’t answer Audrey’s question further, instead holding her as they randomly found a seat in the VIP section in the front.

Audrey sat in her seat, occasionally glancing around.

As it was her first time attending such an event, she was curious about everything here.

In fact, Audrey wanted to find that translator; inexplicably, she cared a lot about her because Shane had admitted she seemed a bit familiar.

As her gaze shifted, she suddenly spotted two familiar faces in the crowd. Surprised, she hurriedly tugged at Shane’s arm, "Look over there!"

Shane lazily followed her gaze and saw Ivan Yardley gentlemanly holding Lan Irving’s hand, helping her sit before seating himself beside her.

"Why are they here? No, why are they together?" Audrey muttered doubtfully.

Shane wasn’t surprised by this scene because he had long anticipated Lan Irving would eventually stand on opposing sides.

He’d also heard whispers of her ambiguous relationship with Ivan Yardley.

Faced with Audrey’s confusion, Shane calmly addressed her doubt, "She resigned and now works at Celestine."

"What?!" Audrey was stunned, processing this information internally before asking, "Did she cause any harm to Starfield before she left?"

"Her staying at Starfield was the real threat."

Seeing Shane’s expression, Audrey noticed a calm detachment, seemingly unfazed by the situation.

Audrey quietly mumbled to herself, "I always said that little secretary was involved with Ivan Yardley."

Shane chuckled, "You’re quite clever to have figured that out."

Audrey glared at him, wondering why his praise sounded so mocking.

Suddenly feeling Lan Irving’s gaze upon her, for a fraction of a second, it seemed their eyes met, and Audrey hastily turned her head, pretending as if nothing had happened.

Audrey didn’t dare look around anymore; she quietly sat beside Shane, and within a few minutes, the host took the stage, conducting in fluent English.

Audrey could roughly understand everything, but at the moment, she just wanted to see the beautiful models appear soon, as the speeches seemed a bit dull.

Her gaze casually drifted to her left and right, and out of the corner of her eye, she saw someone seated diagonally behind her. On reflex, she glanced over, unexpectedly seeing Vincent Warner.

Audrey glanced at Shane, unsure if he’d noticed Vincent’s presence, and she debated whether to inform him, concerned it might affect his mood.

In her indecision, she glanced at Vincent once more. He sat by himself, flanked by foreign gentlemen, seemingly attending alone.

Audrey found it odd; Chloe Swift was here, yet she wasn’t with him.

"Now I know why you were bad at studying."

"Huh?" Audrey interrupted her thoughts, looking at Shane with confusion.

Shane was watching the stage as if he hadn’t even spoken those words earlier.

After a couple of moments, he looked down at her and said, "You never focus on anything. Why are you looking around?"

Audrey hesitated, leaning in closer to him, whispering, "I saw Vincent Warner."

She expected Shane might be surprised and ask where, but unexpectedly, he lightly replied, "Just noticed?"

Audrey: "..."
