Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 220: Just a Child’s Prank
Stephen froze for a moment, adjusted his facial expression, and replied to Rosalind with a smile, "My student."
"Oh... I’ve heard that you’re quite popular among the students at school."
Phoebe said to Stephen with a sly smile, "Teacher~ Are you free for one-on-one tutoring tonight?"
Rosalind’s smile froze again, and Stephen secretly shot Phoebe a glare.
Phoebe had a thick skin that couldn’t be pierced with a mere glare.
She provocatively sized up Rosalind and asked Stephen meaningfully, "Is she your girlfriend?"
"It’s none of your business."
"How can it be none of my business? A teacher like you, so handsome and talented, gentle and elegant. If she’s not your girlfriend, I’d love to have a teacher-student romance with you!"
Rosalind’s smile completely disappeared, and Stephen didn’t expect Phoebe to speak so off-the-cuff at such an occasion.
He reprimanded Phoebe with a stern expression and tone, "Stop talking nonsense here."
"Oh, I was just joking, why so serious, teacher?"
Rosalind realized that Phoebe wasn’t someone to be trifled with, but she maintained her graceful demeanor when speaking, "Haha, students nowadays are really hard to handle, even teasing the teacher."
Stephen knew people like Phoebe, with no shame, couldn’t be easily chased away. Although he and Rosalind hadn’t officially confirmed their relationship, Phoebe’s antics were ultimately not good.
She wouldn’t leave, so he would.
Stephen turned to Rosalind and said, "Let’s get off the bridge. My mom just messaged us to come over for a barbecue."
"Sure, I haven’t said hello to Auntie since I got back."
Phoebe heard this and thought, are they meeting the parents?
Is her fantasy over just like that?
Watching the two of them walk off the bridge side by side, she decided not to tag along awkwardly and humbly behind them.
After thinking it over, she called Audrey.
"Hey sis, where are you?"
Audrey immediately knew Phoebe had an agenda when she heard her address her as "sis."
She thought Phoebe had given up on her older brother.
"We’re over by Jubilee Bridge, want to come hang out?"
Phoebe feigned surprise, "Wow, what a coincidence! I’m at Jubilee Bridge too. Where exactly are you? I’ll come find you!"
"We’re at the barbecue street by the bridge, call me when you get to the bridgehead, I’ll have your cousin come get you."
"Okay, okay, I’ll be right there."
As Stephen and Rosalind walked along, they saw a girl jogging past them. Phoebe waved back at Stephen intentionally while running, "Goodbye, Teacher!"
Stephen ignored her with a dark expression, Rosalind watched Phoebe run off, and then glanced at Stephen, saying tentatively, "This girl has quite a personality."
"Really?" Stephen mentally added three words: particularly irritating.
Rosalind chuckled and said, "Seems like she likes you."
After speaking, she watched Stephen’s expression, as if she were observing something.
"Just a kid being childish."
Rosalind didn’t detect any unusual emotions from Stephen’s expression, which put her at ease, at least Stephen wasn’t interested in that girl.
The idea for the barbecue came naturally from Hazel Yates. Although Samuel Sutton verbally opposed it, he chose to go along with his wife once or twice a year.
Hazel invited some of the kids, Shane’s parents and Rosalind’s parents were also there.
With so many people, they split into several tables, with a table for the elders to chat.
Audrey, Laura, and Phoebe sat at another table, talking about family and romance among girls.
Shane and Audrey’s brothers sat together, and even at a barbecue stall, they looked like a group of successful people discussing multimillion-dollar deals.
Norman Sutton bumped into some of his gaming friends and kept grabbing ingredients to put on the grill, making it the liveliest table with beer and barbecue.
When Stephen and Rosalind walked into the restaurant, they saw this bustling scene.
Since the elders were sitting at the table by the door, the Sherman and Sutton parents also had intentions to match their kids. As soon as the two walked in the door, they were called over by Rosalind’s mother, "Stephen, Rosie, come sit over here."
Stephen nodded with a smile and sat down on the empty side of the table. At this point, they hadn’t noticed Phoebe, who was sitting in the corner watching them.
"Uncle, Aunt, hello." Rosalind greeted Shane’s parents politely. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Hazel smiled approvingly, "Rosie has grown prettier and more sensible since she was young."
Mrs. Sherman intentionally downplayed, "That’s only in front of you all, at home she has a bit of a temper."
Hazel observed the two several times and felt that Rosalind was particularly suitable, so she deliberately said with a smile, "Fiona, don’t you think they make a lovely pair?"
Mrs. Sherman immediately got the hint and chuckled, "Stephen has always been outstanding, just don’t know if our Rosie is lucky enough."
Rosalind gave Fiona a coy glance, "Mom!"
Hazel laughed, "This child is shy, her face is all red."
Rosalind sneaked a glance at Stephen, who just sat politely and properly without any expression.
Hazel also kept observing Stephen’s expression because she called him over for politeness at first, but she held some hope, thinking Rosalind was a nice child, maybe they’d hit it off.
However, judging by the current situation, Stephen seemed to only be complying for courtesy without any intention to date Rosalind.
Because she understood her son, when he doesn’t speak in such circumstances, there’s a certain undercurrent of emotions.
So she didn’t dare make any decisions rashly, only saying more tactfully, "Let’s give them more time to get to know each other. These matters should be left to young people to decide."
Fiona Spencer replied, "Yes, indeed, it’s their lives at stake in the future, a lifetime’s decision must be carefully considered."
...
Meanwhile, at the other table, the three women were focused on the conversation at the main table.
Phoebe glanced at Rosalind several times and asked Audrey, "Audrey, does that girl know your brother from before?"
"...I’m not too sure, it’s my first time seeing her, but I heard it’s our moms who are good friends, connected through that."
Phoebe pondered thoughtfully and asked again, "Do you think she’s prettier or am I prettier?"
Audrey replied without hesitation, "Of course, our Sister Phoebe is prettier!"
Although there was an element of flattery, Phoebe was still satisfied with a smile, "Then, based on your understanding of your brother, do you think he likes that girl given the current situation?"
