Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 219: I’m Off to Conquer the Land
Laura Yates didn’t know what to say. She had argued with Franklin Sutton about these things several times, and she always advised herself that Franklin Sutton was just this kind of person, he loved her in his heart, and she shouldn’t hold it against him.
But sometimes the things he did were really infuriating!
Like just now, he ran into some friends from the police station, and as he walked and chatted with his friends, he completely forgot about her.
In the few seconds Laura Yates bent down to pick something up, she looked up and saw he was gone. He probably hasn’t realized she’s lost yet.
Audrey Sutton was worried that her second brother’s personality might lose such a good sister-in-law, so she immediately took out her phone and called her second brother.
"What’s up, Audrey?"
Audrey Sutton: "Second brother, where are you now?"
On the phone, Franklin Sutton replied, "Looking for your sister-in-law, don’t know where she ran off to in the blink of an eye, and she’s not answering the phone."
"Sister-in-law’s with me, we’re by the river lanterns, come over quickly."
Laura Yates also heard Franklin Sutton’s response on the phone, and hearing he was looking for her, her anger subsided a bit.
At the same time, she reached into her bag and took out her phone, indeed seeing missed calls from him.
She forgot she wanted to sleep soundly during her holiday, so she put her phone on silent mode, just now she didn’t even feel it vibrating in the bag.
Very quickly, Franklin Sutton found his way over. Without much emotion, he gave Shane Warner a displeased look, then pulled Laura Yates beside him: "Since we’re here, let’s release a river lantern before leaving."
Audrey Sutton stood next to Shane Warner, smiled and said, "We already did that."
Audrey Sutton warmly led them to buy river lanterns, and the two of them, while writing notes, weren’t as secretive as Audrey Sutton had been earlier.
As the two were discussing, Franklin Sutton glanced at Laura Yates’ note, and with a disdainful tone said, "Get rich? Strike it rich? Aren’t you being too superficial?"
Laura Yates: "I just love money."
Franklin Sutton: "I have it."
Laura Yates: "Money is more reliable than men, and wealthy men aren’t necessarily reliable."
Franklin Sutton turned his head and said to Audrey Sutton, "Did you hear that, Audrey? Your sister-in-law is giving you a reminder, wealthy men aren’t reliable."
Audrey Sutton rolled her eyes, muttering softly, "My man is wealthy and reliable."
Though she herself wasn’t too sure, she insisted on saying it anyway.
Silently telling herself not to muse on unlucky things on New Year’s Eve.
She’s sure to be with Shane for a long time! Her wish is sure to come true!
On the bridge.
Stephen Sutton stood by the railing, looking at the river surface, beside him stood a woman dressed in a long woolen coat and short boots.
The woman’s jet-black long hair hung down neatly, with a beret matching the coat on her head, appearing mature, intellectual, and graceful.
The woman was indeed Rosalind Sherman, the daughter of the Sherman Family.
She had just returned home this morning, and while chatting just now, they discovered they were both here, so they arranged to meet.
Stephen Sutton, as a teacher, could speak eloquently in class but wasn’t good at chatting with women, especially women showing clear dating intentions.
Though the two had added each other on WhatsApp for some time, their chats were minimal, mostly harmless small talk.
"Brother Sutton, I didn’t expect to spend New Year’s Eve with you this year; it’s quite lucky."
Stephen Sutton chuckled, "Is that so?"
Thus she ended the painstakingly found topic.
Rosalind Sherman pursed her lips, smiling, and said, "Do you remember that one year I spent New Year at your place as a child?"
"I have some impression, back then my sister hadn’t been born yet, my parents always wanted a girl, and they doted on you."
"Yes, they bought me so many toys that when my parents picked me up, the car was loaded full."
Stephen Sutton laughed: "My little brother cried for ages over that. My dad took him out to buy a bunch of snacks before he settled down."
"It was little Nate, right? I remember he was about two then, quite mischievous."
"He’s still quite mischievous now."
Finding the right topic, they began conversing back and forth.
Not far away, a group of people was walking towards them.
"Brother Phoebe, in this chilly weather, wouldn’t it be better to find a place to drink and play cards rather than getting blown by the wind here?" A young man wrapped in a black cotton coat complained.
Phoebe King took a drag from the cigarette in her hand, looking quite irritable, "Drinking every day, why don’t you drink yourself to death? I brought you out to feel the festive atmosphere."
Another girl echoed Phoebe King, saying, "Brother Phoebe spends most of the year abroad, finally staying home for New Year, let’s accompany her for a walk."
"My sweet love understands me."
In fact, Phoebe King wasn’t trying to feel the atmosphere; she was just unable to reach Stephen Sutton, finding his house dark when she visited half an hour ago, clearly no one was home.
With nowhere else to go, she decided to call this group out to have fun and kill time.
Strolling about, she suddenly caught sight of a familiar figure in the distance. Phoebe King hurriedly waved away the smoke she’d just exhaled, squinting to take a closer look.
It was indeed Stephen Sutton; then she spotted the woman beside him. The two appeared like a young couple on a date.
She frowned, feeling a bit annoyed inside.
She thought if this woman had appeared before her, she wouldn’t feel so bad, but appearing afterwards made her feel like losing to this woman.
She couldn’t just leave without intervening, given their coincidental meeting.
Using her hand, she extinguished the lady’s cigarette butt and stopped to ask the girl beside her, "Sweetie, lend me your mirror."
The girl, confused, obediently dug out the mirror from her bag.
"Lipstick, help me pick a color."
The girl rummaged through her bag again, choosing a lipstick from several.
Phoebe King stood there, applied the red lipstick in front of the mirror, casually tidied her hair, confirmed her beauty, then told her companions, "My dear subjects, wander by yourselves, I’m off to conquer."
After speaking, Phoebe King shoved the mirror and lipstick back into the girl’s bag and headed towards Stephen Sutton.
The bridge was crowded, so neither Stephen Sutton nor Rosalind Sherman noticed someone approaching them.
Phoebe King didn’t greet directly but leaned on the railing like Stephen Sutton, wearing an innocent smile, interrupting their conversation, "Brother Sutton, what are you chatting about?"
Both turned their gaze towards Phoebe King. Rosalind Sherman didn’t know who the newcomer was, just stiffly maintaining her smile and using a querying look to see Stephen Sutton. 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
Upon seeing Phoebe King, Stephen Sutton’s face turned like he’d swallowed a fly, finding this person constantly lingering like a ghost.
Seeing Stephen Sutton speechless after a while, Rosalind Sherman couldn’t help but politely ask, "Brother Sutton, this is...?"
