Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 213: You’re Prettier Than Her
Audrey Sutton had decided to confess her feelings before coming to find Shane, but she had only thought of two possible outcomes: success or failure. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦
She hadn’t anticipated such a result, but at least it was better than being rejected by him.
She had a feeling that from now on, she would probably have little to no standing in front of him.
"Go wash your face in the room, you look terrible from crying."
Audrey sniffed, glanced at him secretly twice, and then followed his pointing finger into the bathroom to freshen up.
While she was halfway through washing her face, Shane handed her a clean robe, not a hotel robe, but his own clothing.
It was a dark purple silk robe; he seemed to really like this material for sleepwear.
After placing the clothes on the rack, Shane asked her, "Did you have dinner?"
Audrey cupped water in her hands to wash away the foam on her face. Because she had been crying, her voice sounded a bit muffled: "I ate a little."
"You mean you’re not full?"
After wiping the water from her face with a towel, Audrey glanced at him, as if she was hungry but didn’t dare to say so.
"What do you want to eat?"
"...Ramen." After a few seconds, she added, "There’s a place on the street behind the hotel that’s really delicious."
"You’ve been here before?"
Audrey nodded.
Shane muttered, "No wonder you didn’t get lost."
After speaking, he walked out of the bathroom, closed the sliding door, and urged her, "Hurry up and wash."
Through the frosted glass door, Audrey saw his shadow pass by twice outside the door, and then heard the sound of the door opening and closing.
He must have gone out to buy ramen for her.
Only then did Audrey breathe a sigh of relief, her expression relaxed.
She hadn’t brought any change of clothes, so after bathing she picked up the robe he gave her and held it out against herself.
Before putting it on, she sniffed the fabric near her nose, faintly catching the scent of his usual perfume.
It seemed like even wearing his clothes felt somehow intimate, so as Audrey slipped the robe on, she couldn’t help but cover her mouth and stifle a giggle.
Once she had it on, she found that his clothes were too loose, too long for her.
After tying the belt around her waist, she noticed the neckline was somewhat revealing, and she clutched it with her hand, glanced around, took the hairpin from her head and fastened it at the neckline to avoid too much exposure.
She bent down to knot the hem trailing on the floor, and heard the sound of the door opening outside, so Audrey rolled up the long sleeves and pushed open the bathroom door to walk out.
The moment Shane entered through the door, he looked up and saw her in that attire.
When he gave her the robe, he hadn’t expected she would wear it so... enticingly.
Audrey felt a bit uneasy under his gaze, glanced down at her outfit, thinking he found her way of wearing it too odd, she pursed her lips and with a bit of embarrassment, explained, "The clothes are too long."
Shane unhurriedly withdrew his gaze, feigned indifference as he walked past her into the room, saying as he walked, "You’re just too short."
Audrey pouted and followed behind him into the room.
He placed the bought ramen on the table, then turned and took another robe to head into the bathroom.
Smelling the scent of ramen, Audrey brushed aside all distractions, sat on the floor cushion, lifted the lid, and started eating eagerly.
He always bathed quickly, and before she was halfway through eating the noodles, he came out of the bathroom.
Audrey glanced at him, her mind searching for a topic, asked him, "Do you want some?"
Shane, looking at her offered chopsticks, had already given her a disdainful look as a negative response.
Watching him sit sideways by the bed, towel-drying his hair, Audrey said nothing more, burying her head to continue eating her noodles.
"Did you get your hair permed?"
Audrey’s slurping of noodles paused, then she sucked the rest of them in and swallowed before replying, "Yes, yesterday I went to the salon with my mom and my fourth elder brother."
After speaking, she looked at him and asked another question, "Does it look good?"
"Good looking people look good in any hairstyle."
Audrey hadn’t even had time to smile before he followed up with, "People like you, who look average, won’t look great no matter how exquisite the hairstyle is."
Audrey’s gaze dimmed, asking him, "So who do you think counts as good looking?"
"There’s a very good example right in front of you."
Audrey snorted coldly, though she too thought he was handsome.
"Well... do you think Clarissa Morgan is pretty?" Audrey was concerned about the comparison between women.
"The fact you ask means you think she’s decent-looking."
Audrey didn’t want to hear such indirect answers, "Who do you think is prettier between me and her?"
"By asking, you’re wanting to hear me say you’re prettier than her."
Feeling even more annoyed, Shane put down the towel he was using to dry his hair and deliberately teased her, "Seeing you made all the effort to come all the way to Japan just to cry, it’s not easy, so I’ll humor you. Listen carefully, I’m only saying this once."
He paused for a moment, "You’re prettier than her."
Such insincere praise was naturally not the answer Audrey was satisfied with.
"Hurry up and eat, I won’t wait for you if you can’t get up tomorrow morning to catch the flight."
Audrey turned her frustration into appetite, picked up the bowl in front of her that was larger than her face, and drank the broth from the bowl.
"Burp—" she let out a satisfied burp, glanced at him leaning against the bed reading a magazine.
There was only one bed in the room, with just one quilt on it.
He occupied only half of the bed, clearly leaving the other side for her.
Audrey got up to use the bathroom and brushed her teeth.
When she came out of the bathroom, Shane was still in the same position reading.
She hadn’t slept well last night, woke up early this morning, missed her nap, and didn’t rest on the plane, so Audrey was indeed quite tired.
Quietly moving to the other side of the bed, she sat on the edge, took off her slippers, and gently lifted the corner of the quilt to snuggle in.
His side of the quilt seemed to emit warmth, waves of cozy warmth rushed over.
Audrey didn’t dare move too close, leaving a large gap in the middle of the quilt.
Once she settled in, she lay there motionless, stiff for a few seconds, and suddenly didn’t feel sleepy.
She turned her head, glanced at him, and softly asked, "Aren’t you going to sleep?"
Shane shifted his gaze from the magazine, eyed her briefly, saying, "Can’t sleep alone?"
Audrey looked at him with a slightly flushed face, having confessed she no longer needed to disguise herself with insincere words.
Seeing Shane put down the magazine, curl himself under the covers, reached out to turn off the room’s main light, leaving only a dim table lamp by his bed casting a faint glow.
"You say you like me, but you’re all the way into my quilt and still so far away?"
