Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 198: When Have I Ever Refused You?
The sound of high heels echoed rhythmically in the empty underground parking lot.
By this time, most people who needed to leave had done so, leaving only a few scattered cars.
Lan Irving walked towards the direction where she parked in the morning, and before reaching it, she saw a man in a white suit standing next to her parking spot.
She paused her steps for a moment before continuing towards that direction.
Ivan Yardley glanced down at his watch and then looked up at Lan Irving, asking her, "Working late?"
Lan Irving responded with a soft "Hmm," while opening the car door, "What are you doing here?" 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
Ivan Yardley chuckled, "Waiting for you to finish work."
Saying that, he reached out, opened the passenger door, and got into the car.
Lan Irving glanced sideways at him, wanting to say something but held back.
Seeing Ivan Yardley reach out and hand her a box, he said, "I noticed the last time at your place that your perfume was running out, so I bought you a new bottle."
Lan Irving paused for a moment before reaching out to take the box from him, gently saying, "Thank you."
"What’s wrong? You seem emotionally off these days."
"Really? I’ve always been like this."
"Then you’ve always been unhappy."
Lan Irving took a deep breath and shifted the topic, "I need to head home now. Aren’t you getting out of the car?"
Ivan Yardley chuckled and said, "I’ve been waiting here for two hours; I’m a bit thirsty and would like to have a glass of water at your place."
"Aren’t you busy? How do you have time to wander here?"
"There’s nothing for me to be busy with when it comes to you."
Though Lan Irving knows he always speaks directly, whenever she hears these words from him, there’s an indescribable feeling in her heart.
As Lan Irving prepared to start the car, Ivan Yardley said, "Let me drive; you seem quite tired."
She turned to look at him, opened the car door, got out, and they swapped seats.
The car left the parking lot, and Lan Irving rested her chin in her hand, looking out the window, seemingly lost in thought.
After leaving the parking lot, Ivan Yardley asked her, "I see you’re having a tough time here. Would you be interested in coming to Celestine as the lady boss?"
Lan Irving broke into a smile, glancing at Ivan Yardley and then looking ahead, "It’s not really that tough anymore. It was worse when Starfield was just starting out, but didn’t I get through that?"
Ivan Yardley said, "I’ve seen your capabilities, but some people don’t know how to appreciate them."
Lan Irving laughed self-deprecatingly, "He never lacks capable people around him."
"But isn’t it meaningless for you to fight so hard for him? He can only provide you a salary, which I can offer too, even double; what he can’t give you, I can."
"You don’t understand my feelings."
"Your feelings?" Ivan Yardley laughed softly, "You’re just unwilling. You think that by helping him wholeheartedly, you’d earn a place in his heart, yet he doesn’t consider you at all."
Lan Irving smiled dimly, tacitly agreeing with Ivan Yardley’s remark.
Her feelings for Shane Warner were odd; she’d never thought of being together with him, yet she was unwilling to see other women around him.
What disappointed her most was how he changed because of that woman.
"Can you do me a favor?" After a long silence in the car, Lan Irving asked Ivan Yardley.
Ivan Yardley said, "Just say it. As long as it’s within my ability to help, when have I ever refused you?"
"Just having you say that is enough. I’ll tell you how to do it when the time comes."
Ivan Yardley didn’t ask what she intended to do, agreeing directly.
...
At night, while Shane Warner was working out in the gym, Audrey Sutton also went over, moving slowly on the treadmill.
Seeing Shane Warner finish a set of pull-ups during his rest, Audrey Sutton tentatively asked him, "Is your little secretary seeing someone?"
Shane Warner lifted the hem of his T-shirt to wipe the sweat off his face. As he lifted it, his clearly defined abs and the sweat from the exercise gave him a wild allure and temptation.
He turned to look at her, with his chest rising and falling slightly more than usual, but his voice remained steady and calm, "Do you think I oversee that much?"
"I know something, but I don’t know if I should say it."
"If you want to say it, just say it. Seems like you can’t hold anything in."
Audrey Sutton grinned, realizing he understood her well. Initially, she didn’t plan to say it, but keeping it bottled up inside was bothering her, which was why she came to the gym.
Yet before speaking, Audrey Sutton clarified, "I’m not trying to stir up anything; just passing on some info. How you view it is up to you."
"Go ahead."
Turning off the treadmill, Audrey Sutton stepped onto the ground and said, "I ran into the owner of Celestine today while shopping. You know Ivan Yardley, right?"
Shane Warner responded indifferently, "Hmm, and then?"
"I think your secretary might be involved with him. I saw them chatting together on the cruise before, and yesterday I saw Ivan Yardley give something to Lan Irving. They seem to be quite close. Of course, they could just be dating, but I think you should keep an eye out; what if Ivan Yardley uses Lan Irving to harm Starfield’s interests?"
Shane Warner chuckled, surprised that this girl, with a mind full of bubble tea, could think of such things.
"Why are you laughing? I’m being serious. I’m not suggesting your secretary is bad, but if Ivan Yardley uses romantic interest to pull your secretary in and then uses her as a spy at Starfield, it’s definitely possible."
"Alright, I’ll keep an eye on it," Shane Warner replied softly, aware of the situation with Lan Irving and Ivan Yardley.
Audrey Sutton looked at him, feeling as if he was just placating her.
But she felt she had said everything she needed to, and if he chose not to listen, there wasn’t much she could do: "Anyway, be cautious, I don’t think Ivan Yardley is a good man."
"Got it. Just remember to steer clear when you see him."
"Why should I avoid him? I’m not in his line of work, he can’t play tricks on me."
...
Audrey Sutton was on winter break, and since her grandparents had come over, she spent most of her time at The Suttons.
In the evening, Shane Warner came to The Suttons for dinner, and after dinner, Audrey Sutton went home with him. The next morning, he accompanied her to The Suttons for breakfast, before going to work himself.
Everyone at home praised him, even Samuel Sutton, who initially disliked Shane Warner, would occasionally compliment him now.
If there was something delicious for lunch, her mother always urged Audrey Sutton to take it to Shane Warner’s company, as if worried about neglecting him.
According to Norman Sutton, it was: caring for him better than their own son.
