Chapter 197: Chapter 197: Custom Perfume

"Still not coming out?" Shane urged from outside the door.

Although Audrey Sutton wasn’t very satisfied with him, it was still a breakthrough for him, so she decided to take what she could get.

After opening the door, Audrey said to Shane, "Tomorrow, you need to compliment me with something different."

"Has no one ever praised you before?" 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺

"Nonsense, you’re the only one who always speaks badly of me. I’m obviously very excellent, okay?"

...

The exams were over, and the term was coming to an end, with the winter vacation drawing nearer.

Seraphina Vaughn, after finishing her last exam, immediately bought a ticket to travel abroad. Flora said she was experiencing a period of back luck lately, with endless troubles at home and difficulties in her relationships. She had a strained relationship with her family and, to gain economic independence as soon as possible, she had recently applied for a position as a radio host that matched her major, and she’d already started her internship.

Audrey and Barry Barrett, having nothing to do in the dormitory, decided to go out for some shopping in the afternoon.

Audrey mentioned wanting to buy a bottle of perfume as a gift for Shane, and Barry immediately recommended a rather unique perfume store to her.

Strictly speaking, it was more of a spice shop where the owner could create a unique perfume based on your preferences or descriptions, making it a meaningful gift.

However, the store wasn’t cheap; a custom perfume there cost more than some big brands on the market.

Luckily, Audrey now had her own source of income, allowing her to indulge a little in such matters.

The shop wasn’t very big and was relatively secluded; not many people were on the street.

The fragrance hit them before they even stepped inside.

Once inside, Audrey and Barry saw various spices for making sachets placed everywhere, with the custom perfumes being on the second floor.

After explaining their intentions, the staff on the first floor took them directly to the second floor.

The second floor felt even quieter than the first, resembling a chemistry lab, with bottles and jars everywhere.

The jars contained colorful liquids, and under the lighting, the whole scene looked rather magical.

"Janelle, these two ladies are here to order custom perfumes," the staff said, leading them to a girl in the corner wearing a mask before going downstairs.

"Please, have a seat for a moment. I currently have another customer," Janelle said to them with a gentle voice.

Though partially hidden by a mask, her demeanor gave off a sense of tranquility and peace.

Running such an "isolated from the world" perfume shop on the fringes of a bustling city made Audrey think that the owner must be someone with distinctive ideas about life.

The two of them found a spot to sit down, watching as the owner handed a reagent bottle to an assistant and then approached a man waiting on the other side.

Curious, Audrey looked over and was surprised to find it was Ivan Yardley.

She immediately pulled Barry up, pretending to examine the perfume bottles on the shelf while edging closer to Ivan Yardley.

They overheard the conversation.

"This perfume must be yours?" Ivan Yardley handed an empty perfume bottle to the owner.

The owner took the bottle, glanced at it, and nodded with a light laugh, "Yes, it’s probably Ms. Irving’s? She’s a regular here and always uses this formula."

Ms. Irving?

A thought crossed Audrey’s mind, instantly linking it to Lan Irving.

Ivan Yardley nodded and said, "Could you make another one for me by today? Can I come by to get it tonight?"

The owner nodded, "Yes, we close at eight. You can come anytime before then."

Audrey couldn’t help but glance at Ivan Yardley. She initially didn’t care about Celestine’s matters and wasn’t interested in Ivan Yardley.

However, after the plagiarism incident, Audrey became more sensitive whenever she saw Ivan Yardley.

Especially now, involving Lan Irving, Audrey couldn’t help but wonder if there was something improper between them.

"Mrs. Warner, what a coincidence to see you here?"

Hearing the voice behind her, Audrey’s back stiffened; she turned around, pretending only now to have noticed Ivan Yardley, who was ready to leave. "Mr. Yardley is also buying perfume?"

Ivan Yardley only nodded without much explanation, greeting them briefly before leaving.

Watching Ivan’s departing figure, Audrey was torn about whether to tell Shane about this.

But she currently had no evidence that Lan Irving was a spy planted by Celestine, afraid Shane would think she was deliberately stirring up trouble.

"What kind of perfume would you like to order, for yourself or a friend?"

Snapped back by the owner’s question, Audrey put away her thoughts and began discussing the perfume with the owner.

During the chat, the owner took off her mask, revealing a particularly beautiful girl. Audrey had assumed the owner must be a woman in her thirties at least, given such a shop, but she looked only around twenty-three or twenty-four.

Her style was simple, not even wearing any makeup. Her hair was naturally black, tied in a simple low ponytail, and she spoke with constant smiles, exuding warmth and patience.

Faced with a customer like Audrey, who knew nothing about perfume, she explained everything patiently and responsibly.

It took them nearly half an hour just to decide on the type of custom perfume.

Audrey ordered not only one for Shane but also one for herself.

Thinking Shane was so meticulous, she couldn’t afford to remain as casual as before.

Winter nights fell early.

Starfield.

By seven in the evening, most of the company’s people had left.

Lan Irving was the last to leave the office, and when she exited, she glanced at the tightly closed office door down the hall. No light came through the gap, plunging it in darkness.

Imagining in the past, he would certainly still be toiling away in the office at this hour.

But now, he was probably at home keeping that woman company.

It had been a while since she’d seen him, and it seemed he had forgotten about Starfield, entirely consumed by that woman.

Lately, she frequently saw pictures and videos of the two of them shopping together.

Initially, she believed Shane chose Audrey Sutton purely because of The Suttons’ strong background, but from the look of it now, he was clearly enchanted by her.

He had changed so much, she barely recognized him anymore.

No longer was he the Shane who would tirelessly oversee a new product line personally at the company.

Although Starfield was thriving, without him, she felt it had lost its touch.

And the root cause of it all was that woman’s appearance...
