Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 184: My Heart Is Full of You
Franklin Sutton held Laura Yates and returned to her bedroom. After Laura Yates finally let out the emotions she had bottled up for so long, she felt a little better.
She quickly took a hot shower, changed clothes, and went home with Franklin Sutton.
"Hurry up and smile. If our parents see you with that gloomy face, they’ll think I bullied you, and I’ll get scolded."
Laura Yates wasn’t really in the mood to smile. It was good enough that she agreed to get in his car and go back to eat with him.
Sitting in the car, Franklin Sutton kept trying to make her laugh, but those old jokes he told were really dull.
However, Laura Yates’s mood did indeed improve a lot.
Halfway through the drive, Laura Yates, who hadn’t spoken until then, finally spoke up, "I saw you today when I passed by the police station."
Franklin Sutton immediately asked, "Then why didn’t you come over to find me?"
Laura Yates didn’t hide what she saw, directly saying, "You were holding a girl, how am I supposed to know if you want me to come over? What if I’m bothering you?"
Franklin Sutton thought for a moment and then remembered, hurriedly explaining, "Laura, you misunderstood again. That girl is the same one you saw two days ago. Wasn’t her dad accidentally killed by debt collectors two days ago? Her mom couldn’t cope with her dad’s death and jumped off a building to commit suicide today. I was dealing with that matter this afternoon."
"That young girl lost both parents, and she sobbed uncontrollably on the way to the police station. I was responsible for her dad’s case, so she knew me, and when she saw me getting out of the car, she hugged me and cried. I thought the poor girl was so pitiful, so I comforted her a bit, really without any other intentions."
Laura Yates turned her head to look out the window, without speaking.
Franklin Sutton glanced at her once or twice, worried she might not believe him, then hurriedly said, "Everything I said is true, Laura, you need to believe me. Besides, that girl is only seventeen, how could I have such thoughts? My heart is filled with you!"
Laura Yates saw that his attitude was quite sincere, and knowing the circumstances, she felt it was not unforgivable.
Her expression improved slightly, but her smile was still not obvious.
When they arrived at The Suttons, Laura Yates, getting out of the car and seeing Hazel Yates, finally restored her usual enthusiasm, smiling and greeting, "Hello Uncle, Aunt."
Hazel Yates smiled and invited Laura Yates inside to sit, "Couldn’t come over for lunch? Even on break, you must be busy with work?"
Laura Yates covered her mouth and turned her head to cough twice before replying to Hazel Yates, "The company had some urgent matters that needed handling, so I stayed overtime unexpectedly."
"Are you catching a cold? It’s so chilly, make sure to wear more clothes. After dinner, I’ll give you two pills of your uncle’s medicine. It works wonders for coughs."
"Thank you, Aunt." Laura Yates changed shoes, looked around but didn’t see Audrey Sutton, "Where’s Audrey?"
"She just got back upstairs to shower after getting herself covered in flower soil during a snowball fight with her sixth brother."
Speaking of this, Samuel Sutton, sitting aside, couldn’t help but nag Norman Sutton, "I’ve told you not to bully your sister."
"Dad, you’re too biased. You were laughing while playing chess when she was throwing snow at my face."
"But when she fell, you still can’t push her into the dirt!"
"I’m wronged, dear dad. She slipped into the dirt on her own and blamed me for pushing her. She’s been using this trick since childhood, and you still believe it?"
Samuel Sutton: "If it were you who fell into the dirt, could I have wronged you?"
"Mom, could you have a word with dad? Aren’t both of us your flesh and blood? Shouldn’t you be more impartial?"
Hazel Yates: "Serves you right. Thanks to Shane’s good temper, he didn’t deal with you. Otherwise, both your dad and I would be cheering him on while you get beaten."
"I’m so frustrated! I can’t stay in this house anymore! Tomorrow, I’ll find myself a wealthy lady and never come back!"
Samuel Sutton: "Good, your mom asked me to clear out a room for her clothes just a few days ago."
Hazel Yates laughed, "Enough, at least he’s your biological son; don’t treat him like one that came with a phone recharge. Everyone wash up and prepare to eat. Shane, you go upstairs and hurry Audrey."
"Okay."
Shane Warner walked to Audrey Sutton’s room. Without knocking, he directly turned the doorknob and opened the unlocked door, just in time to see Audrey Sutton with her back to him, fastening her bra strap.
Turning her head to see Shane Warner standing at the door, Audrey Sutton dashed into the covers like a gust of wind, pulling them over herself and glaring at him displeased, "Why didn’t you knock?!"
"Ahem—" Shane Warner coughed lightly in a bid to cover his embarrassment, "Mom asks you to hurry."
"I’m changing! Get out! And close the door!"
Shane Warner stood at the doorway with a playful gaze, assessing her for a few more seconds before stepping back to close the door.
Seeing him leave, Audrey Sutton was ready to emerge from the covers, but the door opened again, and he said, "The strawberry ones are cuter."
Audrey Sutton blushed, pitched a pillow at him from behind, "Get out!"
Before the pillow could hit the ground, he closed the door.
To prevent him from coming in again, Audrey Sutton clutched the thin bedspread and dashed over to lock the door.
Then she looked down at her black lace set, bought after he commented on her strawberry underwear last time.
But from what he just said, he seems to like the strawberry set more?
No! Audrey Sutton suddenly realized, she’s not wearing this for him to see, why should she care what he likes?
Brushing aside these confusing thoughts, Audrey Sutton donned a fluffy pajama set and headed downstairs.
Wherever Laura Yates was, Audrey Sutton would definitely sit with her.
Franklin Sutton was initially worried that Laura Yates might still be angry, but seeing her cheerful and chatting with Audrey at dinner, it seemed she was back to normal, and he could finally breathe a sigh of relief.
In a bustling city duplex apartment, the kitchen was filled with peculiar popping sounds.
Luc and Mor, sitting on the sofa in the living room, glanced at each other.
Then Luc said quietly, "Phoebe King is cooking? That’s rarer than a tree blooming with flowers."
Mor looked worriedly at the smoky kitchen, "Should we go in and lend a hand?"
"Help my foot, I think we’d be better off evacuating, maybe even calling 119 in advance."
Just then, Phoebe King emerged from the kitchen, holding an oven tray with some oddly-shaped black objects, "Try these and give me some feedback."
Luc’s mouth twitched and asked, "What is this?"
"Cookies! First time making them without experience, the shapes are a bit odd, but you can eat them. Give them a try."
Luc immediately and "graciously" said to Mor, "Little brother, big brother adores you; you go first for the good stuff."
Mor stared at the blackened objects for a moment, then reached over, picked up a piece, and put it in his mouth...
