Chapter 183: Chapter 183: I’ve Put Up with You for a Long Time

Franklin Sutton followed Laura Yates into the kitchen: "I’ve been reflecting at the door just now, and I don’t think I’ve done anything to upset you, have I? Are you feeling under the weather, is that why you’re in a bad mood? Have you taken any medicine? How about I go to the hospital with you?"

Laura Yates washed the rice under the tap, not answering Franklin Sutton’s questions.

But in her mind, she recalled the few hours she spent alone today at the hospital, and a wave of grievance surged in her heart.

"Where are you feeling uncomfortable? Just a cough? Do you have a fever?" Franklin Sutton asked as he reached out to touch Laura Yates’s forehead, but she dodged his hand by turning her head aside.

Franklin Sutton’s hand froze midair, stunned, with a slight frown: "You’re doing this again."

Facing Laura Yates, who didn’t want to speak to him, Franklin Sutton felt somewhat at a loss.

As he stood beside her, unsure of how to coax her, his phone rang in his pocket.

It was Hazel Yates calling: "Are you done with work? If you’re done, bring Laura over for dinner."

Franklin Sutton glanced at Laura Yates, who just poured the rice into the pot, and said to the person on the other end: "Okay, we’ll be there soon."

"Hmm, you must bring Laura. It’s a holiday, and she shouldn’t be spending it alone."

"Okay, got it."

Franklin Sutton hung up the phone and turned off the gas stove that Laura Yates had just turned on, "Hey, you heard it, Mom’s asking us to go back for dinner. You’re mad at me, but you can’t show such disrespect to Mom, can you?"

Laura Yates lowered her eyes and remained silent, contemplating a lot in her heart.

Initially, she would go home with him because she was really planning to marry him.

But over this period, too many conflicts emerged between them.

She wasn’t particularly sensitive, but sometimes Franklin Sutton’s way of handling things really made her furious.

The worst part was, he didn’t even realize when he upset her, and when he did try to coax her, instead of saying "I’m sorry," he would say, "I don’t recall making you mad, why are you upset again?"

She originally planned to have a good heart-to-heart talk with him, but upon hearing these words, she lost the will to speak, simply replying, "I’m not mad."

What annoyed her the most was that he actually believed it and casually moved on as if nothing had happened.

This left Laura Yates to bottle up her anger and process it internally more and more times, building up greater resentment within her.

Today, while alone in the hospital receiving an IV drip, she thought about a lot, realizing that being with him made her more exhausted than being by herself.

It was mainly emotional exhaustion.

Sometimes she wondered if she wasn’t considerate enough, but she really couldn’t accept his careless way of handling issues.

So she realized perhaps they were just not suited for each other.

"Did you hear me? Go get changed, it’s almost six, and the whole family will be waiting for us." Franklin Sutton urged while also pushing her gently towards the kitchen door.

Laura Yates brushed off his hand, stood in front of him, looked at him, lowered her eyes, took a deep breath, then looked up at him, and said in a soft, gentle voice, "I think I’m a bit tired, let’s break up."

Franklin Sutton was taken aback at first, then frowned discontentedly: "Break up with what? You can yell or hit me if you’re upset, and once you vent your anger, everything will be fine. Why break up? Don’t be like this."

"Fine?" Laura Yates sneered, her eyes slightly reddening and misting as she looked at him: "You’re the only one who thinks it’s fine. I’m really exhausted, being with you is too tiring for me."

Seeing Laura Yates’s expression and words not like ones said out of anger, Franklin Sutton finally realized the seriousness of the problem: "What’s wrong, Laura? Did something happen? We’ve been together for quite a while and it’s been good, hasn’t it? I was just waiting for you to say yes, and I’d marry you. Are you serious about what you’re saying now?"

Laura Yates lowered her eyes, remaining silent. The thought of breaking up had emerged several times, but every time she saw him, she just softened.

She used to think he was just a bit unperceptive, not having many detailed feelings.

He often expressed how much he loved her, discussed their future in front of her, and she had looked forward to it too, but the real-life conflicts made her pessimistic about their future.

Laura Yates looked at him with tear-filled eyes, but forced herself to hold back the tears, "We’ve been together for almost six months now. You always say you like me, you love me, but Franklin Sutton, think carefully, during these six months, what have you really done for me?"

Franklin Sutton was stunned, as if he had been asked something he had never seriously considered.

"When you’re free and available, you come to find me. But when I need you, where are you?"

Franklin Sutton tried to explain: "That’s because of my work. I never know when a task will come down from above, but as soon as I have time, don’t I always come to you?"

"Do you know what my favorite dish is? Do you know what fruit I love? Do you know what I like to do at home on my days off? And do you know how many times I’ve been to the hospital by myself in these six months?"

Franklin Sutton was left speechless by her questions because he couldn’t answer a single one.

"I’ve been putting up with you for a long time." When Laura Yates softly uttered this, tears slipped from her eyes, and her tone held more grievance than accusation.

Reflecting back, it seemed he really hadn’t done much for her.

Most of the time, she was the one taking care of him; he only knew that she treated him well, and he wanted to marry her, but he ignored her feelings.

Seeing her bow her head in tears, Franklin Sutton hugged her tightly, heart-wrenchedly: "I’m sorry, Laura. It’s my fault. I’ve taken note of everything you’ve said. I promise I’ll change in the future and never let you feel wronged again, okay?"

He gently pulled her body back a bit, using his hand to tenderly wipe away the tears on her cheeks.

Perhaps due to her emotional agitation, she started coughing heavily again.

He held her, gently patting her back until her coughing subsided. Only then did Franklin Sutton say: "If you ever have any issues in the future, just tell me directly, like now. Don’t keep it bottled up inside and make me guess. I’m clumsy with words and always say things that upset you. From now on, just tell me where I’m wrong directly so I can change, okay?"

Laura Yates’s heart softened instantly.

He cradled her face softly, gave her a gentle kiss: "Alright, your face is all stained from crying. Go wash up and change clothes, and let’s go home for dinner. Also, from now on, no more talk of breaking up. Do you hear me?"
