Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 179: There’s Still So Much I Can Teach You
Shane looked around the still fairly tidy room, suggesting she probably hadn’t invited her girlfriends over; and since both General and Pea were at home, it meant she hadn’t been staying in the dorms. He asked, "Have you been staying home alone these past few days?"
Audrey Sutton finished munching on the rib in her hand before responding, "Yeah, I have to take care of General and Pea."
"Not scared?"
Audrey stuffed some rice into her mouth and replied while chewing, "To be honest, a little scared. It’s a low floor here, and I’m always worried about burglars."
"There are security patrols at night, and there are access controls for entry, where would a burglar come from? You’re just scaring yourself."
Audrey pouted but didn’t have the courage to say that her fears at night weren’t just about burglars, but also from those horror movies and novels she’d seen before.
She didn’t dare to close her eyes even when washing her hair or bathing, always worried she’d see something scary when she opened them.
"...Are you going on business trips before Chinese New Year?"
"Not sure, but if you’re on winter break, you could come with me on the trips. Since you like to secretly check on me anyway, might as well just come with me."
Audrey grumbled defensively, "When did I ever check on you? If you’re going to misbehave, watching you 24 hours wouldn’t help. Besides, I’m not that free, I can’t even handle my own stuff."
Shane chuckled, "Some people, if you only listen to their words, you’d think they understand everything, but sometimes their minds like to think of strange things."
"I said I don’t check on you, and I mean it. Still, I’ll say it again, a man should behave, or I won’t bother wasting my time on you."
Shane knew she was being contrary; after all the effort she put into making such a big meal for him, she still claimed she wouldn’t waste her time on him.
Others would rush to claim credit for what they did, but she stubbornly refused to admit it.
After dinner, the two of them cleaned up together. Audrey stood by the sink washing dishes while Shane cleaned the table and countertop before coming over to help clear the dishes.
Clearing the dishes only required rinsing them, which was naturally much quicker than washing them.
He quickly stacked the plates from the sink and placed them in the cabinet, then stood by the sink; she washed one, and he cleared one.
The distance between them was less than ten centimeters, making Audrey afraid to look up at him.
He merely matched her dishwashing rhythm, without urging her to hurry.
Audrey didn’t know if he was watching her during the gaps as she washed.
Never thought washing dishes could make your heart race like this.
"Did you get your nails done?" He lazily asked as he took the washed plate from her.
Audrey thought to herself, she’d been washing dishes for quite a while in front of him; he surely hadn’t just noticed her nails now.
Obviously, he was just using her nails as an excuse to find a topic to talk about.
"...Yes, I learned it from Seraphina Vaughn." Saying this, she extended her hand in front of him, smiling as she asked, "Do you like it?"
Her slender, fair fingers were already beautiful, and now adorned, they looked even prettier, though he commented insincerely, "Looks bewitching."
Audrey pouted and continued washing dishes, saying, "You don’t understand, it’s not worth explaining to you."
Then she intentionally added, "As long as I like it, that’s all that matters."
Shane chuckled softly, and when she finished washing the last dish, he said, "Alright, wash your hands and let me tidy up; don’t ruin your nails."
Audrey washed her hands under the tap while saying, "These are gel nails; they’re not easy to ruin. Never mind, even if I explained, you wouldn’t get it. I’m going to take a shower."
Shane didn’t say anything, silently finishing up the cleanup.
After her shower, Audrey noticed the lights were still on downstairs, so she grabbed the water cup from her desk and headed downstairs to see what he was up to.
Going downstairs, she saw him picking up Pea, who had fallen asleep on the sofa, and placing him in his own bed.
Pea obliviously stretched lazily in the bed and curled up to sleep again.
Noticing the sound of her footsteps, Shane looked her way.
Holding her cup, Audrey walked down with ease, refilling it from the kettle while asking, "You’re not resting yet?"
"Have you ever seen me rest this early?"
"I just thought you might be tired from traveling."
He eyed her with a meaningful look, his tone turning slightly mischievous, "I still have energy for lots of things."
Audrey, having some experience of her own, instantly understood the double meaning in Shane’s words.
But she also knew he was just teasing and wouldn’t act recklessly, so she boldly replied, "Didn’t have enough from all those dishes tonight?"
Shane was a bit surprised that his usually innocent wife, who would blush just from him holding her hand, could be this wild. He raised an eyebrow and said, "A few days without seeing you and you’ve gotten naughtier?"
"You taught me."
Shane laughed, moving closer with a hint of roguishness not often seen, "There’s still a lot I can teach you, interested in learning?"
Audrey swallowed hard. While she could spar verbally for a few rounds, seeing him about to make a move, she lost her nerve, turning and slipping away, heading upstairs while saying, "No time to learn, I’ve got painting to do."
"Sharpening the axe doesn’t delay chopping wood, learning more positions could help you create new things."
Audrey was halfway up the stairs, feeling safe from capture; she turned and shouted back at him, "You old rogue!"
Shane’s smile froze instantly, but Audrey had already dashed into her room.
A rogue is a rogue, but must you add "old" to it?
This little vixen, one day he’ll have her completely in line.
Audrey sat at her desk, staring at the "wall slam" scene she was drawing, her mind flooded with impure images.
Some were fantasies, others blurred memories from that night.
That night, besides the evidence he left on her body, many details were hazy, even the sensations were indistinct.
So regarding those matters, her heart was still filled with both fear and curiosity about the unknown.
New Year’s Day.
Audrey woke up naturally, with quiet surroundings and the brightness outside indicating it was late.
She lazily gazed out the window for a few seconds before slowly getting out of bed. A glance at her phone showed it was past nine.
Realizing she hadn’t made breakfast for Shane, she quickly threw off the covers and got out of bed.
Rushing downstairs, she wondered if he had already gone to the office.
Halfway down, she saw Shane leisurely sitting on the sofa, reading a newspaper, without much emotion in his eyes when he looked at her.
But Audrey thought her frantic rush might have made her look like a lunatic to him.
