Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 175: Don’t Act Like I Haven’t Kissed You
Audrey Sutton actually thought the design was quite ordinary, but the reason she was attracted was mainly because it was a couple’s scarf.
Anything labeled with "couple’s item" holds a different significance for Audrey Sutton.
However, pointing to the cream-colored checkered scarf around her neck, she explained to Shane Warner, "Actually, yours was a free gift. I had my eye on this one, and yours was added for just nine dollars and ninety cents."
When Shane heard this, the disdain in his eyes became even more evident.
Audrey Sutton bent down and placed the bag she was holding beside her feet, then reached out to take off the scarf Shane was wearing: "Try this one; it’ll definitely look good on you too."
Shane remained expressionless, allowing her to mess around this time. Unlike in the morning, he didn’t bend down to assist, so Audrey had to tiptoe occasionally to adjust the scarf for him.
Once she was done, she pushed Shane slightly to turn him around, using the glass behind them as a mirror, seeing the reflection of them both: "How’s that? My taste isn’t bad, right?"
Shane didn’t actually know if the scarf was really a nine-dollar add-on, but seeing the similar design to hers, others would undoubtedly see it as a couple’s item, so he didn’t mind about the price.
He bent down to pick up the bag she had just placed by her feet. Inside, it was unknown what was packed, but it was somewhat heavy.
Seeing him not commenting on the scarf and instead heading straight out of the cinema with the bag, Audrey hurried to catch up, then asked, "You don’t like it?"
Shane said nothing, pushing open the cinema glass door, not heading out first. Instead, he held the door like a gentleman, stepping aside for her to walk out first.
"If you don’t like it, we can stroll around somewhere else. The time is still early; go pick one yourself."
He suddenly paused and asked her, "Do you think it looks good?"
Audrey froze, not knowing the purpose behind his question. Due to an inner uncertainty, she replied slightly timidly, "...I think it looks pretty good."
In her heart, she held back a thought: "You look handsome, so you’d look good in anything."
"Then it’s fine." After saying this, he grasped her wrist, leading them out of the cinema.
Audrey was left pondering over the meaning of his words for quite a while.
So as long as she thinks it looks good, it’s fine?
Why does she feel as if he has feelings for her too, or is it just an illusion?
She glanced down at his hand holding her wrist and turned to look around, thinking there couldn’t be paparazzi around, right? Surely he wasn’t doing it to show off?
"Oh no!" Audrey was too busy looking around and didn’t notice the steps nearby, almost tripping over them. Fortunately, Shane was holding her hand.
After stabilizing herself, she met Shane’s cold gaze, which silently scolded her for not watching her step.
With such an icy demeanor, just a moment ago Audrey suspected he might be fond of her, but the next moment, she dismissed her own notion.
He’s always so stern; Audrey finds it no surprise he’s been single for nearly thirty years.
With such a temper, being single for another thirty years sounds normal.
Though they dined alone together in the evening, a third of his time was spent on phone calls, discussing work matters.
It seemed like he originally had plans for the evening but prioritized sending her to the airport, hence handling many things via phone discussion.
They dined near the hotel, relishing a walk back as an after-meal stroll.
On the journey back, Audrey wished the road were longer, even longer.
Reluctant to say goodbye, her phone buzzed with notifications, reminding her of the inevitable departure.
Back at the hotel, after packing her own luggage, the hotel arranged a car for airport transportation.
Arriving at the airport, with around an hour left before boarding, the security check lines were long, discouraging her from lingering outside after ticketing, as Shane accompanied her for luggage check-in before she prepared to queue for security.
This marked her farewell with Shane.
"...I’m going to security check now, you should head back."
Shane nodded but continued walking forward, escorting Audrey up to the security checkpoint, then looked down at her, saying, "Once you land, head to Terminal Gate 3; someone will pick you up. Notify me when you get home."
"Okay, and make sure to take care of yourself, remember to take your medicine on time."
After exchanging words, they gazed at each other, seemingly having more to say, yet hesitating to speak.
"...I’m going to line up." Audrey pointed at the long queue behind her for security check.
Shane first nodded; as Audrey turned to leave, he called out to her: "Wait."
Audrey paused, turning back to look at him.
He beckoned her to come closer; puzzled, Audrey walked back before she managed to ask what was the matter, he suddenly leaned in, cupping the back of her head, and his warm lips pressed against her forehead...
Audrey widened her eyes in shock, scattered thoughts unable to gather before hearing his nonchalant voice above: "Paparazzi are here. Act natural, don’t look like you’ve never been kissed."
Upon hearing this, Audrey was about to turn her head to search for paparazzi, but he caught her face with both hands, steadying her head: "Don’t wander."
His words carried a strange authority making one compliant and trusting; Audrey stood still, her neck rigid, no longer glancing around, yet eyes still slightly surprised as she gazed at him.
Shane casually adjusted the scarf around her neck, speaking gently and fondly, "Go line up and, on the way, don’t converse with strangers, nor accept their food."
Uncertain about the presence of paparazzi, Audrey refrained from opposing him, obediently joining the queue, casting a backward glance at him, who remained watching her.
Following the queue forward, Audrey turned to look at him four times; on the fifth turn, the crowd blocked her view of his earlier standing position.
Soon it was Audrey’s turn for security check. After passing through, reaching her terminal, she settled down and texted Shane: Have you gone back?
He replied promptly: Almost back at the hotel.
Audrey: I’m about to board.
Before Shane responded, Audrey hurriedly sent a voice message: "Oh, and I forgot to pack the face cream I used this morning; I left it on the cabinet near the TV. Please bring it back for me when you return."
Shane: You’re always forgetting things.
Audrey: I’ve boarded.
Seeing his reply with a simple "Alright," Audrey smiled before switching off her phone.
