Chapter 174: Chapter 174: Learning to Take Care of Others

Watching him put on his suit pants, he was pulling a black undershirt over his head.

Audrey Sutton hurriedly got out of bed and rummaged through her suitcase to pull out a turtleneck sweater: "Wear this, it’s warmer."

The clothes were ones she had found in his closet, styles he had bought himself, so Audrey wasn’t worried he’d refuse or despise them.

Sure enough, he obediently reached out and took the sweater, putting it on, chuckling lightly, "You’ve grown up a bit, taking care of people now."

Audrey Sutton muttered a little shyly, "I’ve always been able to take care of people."

As she spoke, she pulled out a cream-colored woolen scarf from the suitcase: "This is for you too, I only wore it once this year. It’s quite a neutral color, so it’ll look fine on you."

This time, Shane Warner wasn’t as quick to take the scarf as before with the sweater, staring at it for a while without moving.

Audrey Sutton thought he was disgusted because she had worn it before, so she hurriedly said, "I’ve washed it, it’s clean!"

Actually, Shane’s hesitation wasn’t because the scarf wasn’t new; he would have preferred it unwashed.

The reason he hesitated was that he never used such things.

Seeing him put on his coat without a second thought, Audrey assumed he was displeased and said, "You can make do with it for now, we’ll buy you a new one when we have time to shop."

Seeing Shane ignore her and focusing on buttoning up, Audrey said again, "Really! I’ve only worn it once, and I washed it. If you don’t believe me, smell it, it still has the scent of laundry detergent."

Seeing her so determined to prove herself, Shane couldn’t hide the smile on his face.

His hands were still buttoning the suit, but he bent slightly towards her.

Audrey held the scarf, stunned, not understanding why he was bowing to her. The next second, she heard him say, "Help me put it on."

Hearing this, Audrey’s heart instantly felt at ease.

Her smile was never reluctant to show; she smiled as she tidied the scarf in her hands and wrapped it around his neck.

Once she was done, Shane stood straight. She noticed something wasn’t perfect and reached up to adjust it for him.

"All done, very handsome!" Shane knew when she complimented him as handsome, it was like coaxing a child.

But even knowing this, Shane was happy to listen.

Shane went to the full-length mirror to check himself, fortunately handsome enough to carry any attire.

Fixing his hair in the mirror, he turned to ask Audrey, who was rummaging through items by the suitcase, "Didn’t check your messages?"

"What messages?"

Shane didn’t respond; Audrey hurriedly stood up and grabbed her phone.

The phone still displayed the ticket booking app, Audrey exited the page and opened the notifications bar for unread messages.

Besides the payment notice, she found Shane’s message.

Without any text, just a transfer of five thousand dollars.

She guessed he was compensating her for the expensive plane ticket she complained about in front of him.

"I’ll take it!" she said, grinning at him.

Shane pretended to be indifferent: "Hurry up and pack, let’s go downstairs for breakfast."

Audrey replied with an "Okay," confirmed the transfer, and then grabbed her clothes to change in the bathroom.

Shane stood outside the room smiling, then casually noticed his reflection smiling back at him in the mirror. Slightly surprised, he then looked down at the scarf around his neck, letting his smile widen.

When Audrey came out after changing, Shane quickly hid his smile and glanced coldly in her direction, urging, "Hurry up."

Seeing him already waiting at the entrance, Audrey hurriedly grabbed a bottle of face cream from her makeup pouch. As she was about to dab it on her face in front of the mirror, she suddenly turned and asked him, "Do you want some?"

Shane pulled a stern face: "What do you think?"

As Audrey applied the cream to her face, she said, "It’s dry in winter, you need to moisturize; otherwise, wrinkles will appear easily."

Shane’s face turned visibly upset, feeling like she was subtly calling him old.

Finishing with her face, Audrey looked at him, moving her cream-covered fingers towards his face: "Want me to apply a bit?"

Shane dodged to the side, grunting blandly, "No way."

Audrey pouted and retracted her hand, applying the cream to her own arm.

Actually, she quite envied Shane. Even though he seldom did skincare, his skin was so smooth, with hardly visible pores even up close.

Moreover, his skin tone was quite fair for a guy, almost giving off an indescribable allure when he had a couple of shirt buttons undone.

Finally stepping out, as they were having breakfast in the hotel’s restaurant, Audrey checked the map on her phone, discovering a nearby shopping district she wanted to visit to buy Shane a scarf.

Thus, she declined Shane’s offer to accompany him to the conference room as an observer, fearing she’d be bored alone.

Although Audrey wanted to be close to him, she didn’t want to disturb him during work. She couldn’t help with work, so the least she could do was not cause trouble.

However, Shane was actually quite uneasy about her being out alone. He felt more at peace when she was with him.

Before Shane left, he went through a series of instructions, which Audrey merely brushed off with "Mm-hmm," "Okay," and "Got it."

She really didn’t like being treated like a child, as if she’d get lost just stepping out the door.

Already twenty, she was his wife, not a three-year-old daughter.

Once she managed to send him off, Audrey happily headed out with her backpack for shopping. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Intending initially just to buy him a scarf, she couldn’t resist and ended up buying two upon the clerk’s recommendation.

The couple’s set was a plaid cashmere design, one in coffee color, the other in cream.

She also picked up some cute and creative stationery and good-looking notebooks at the stationery store.

It seemed like the five thousand he sent her was almost gone.

Though soon he would be transferring her more living expenses, Audrey’s own manuscript fees were enough for her spending. Still, spending his money was her way of affirming her own identity.

She figured if she didn’t spend his money, it could eventually get swindled by some vixen anyway.

For lunch, she had steak at a restaurant, and with nothing to do in the afternoon, she caught a movie. Around four, Shane called, showing up at the theater to pick her up.

As the movie ended, she stepped out to see Shane waiting by the door, still faithfully wearing the scarf she gave him.

She smiled and walked straight up to him, "You’re off work this early?"

"What movie were you watching alone?"

"It’s cold outside, and going back to the hotel is boring, so I watched a movie to pass the time."

Shane glanced at the bags in her hand, "What did you buy?"

Audrey, like presenting a treasure, took out the men’s scarf from the bag, smiling expectantly, "Do you like it? I bought it for you."

"It’s okay. Quite ordinary," he said, offering no compliment at all.
