Mr. Warner, Your Wife is Running Away Again!-Chapter 126: Gray Scarf
After staying in the hotel for two days, on the third day, Shane finally took Audrey Sutton to their new home.
Even though she knew Shane was very wealthy and owned many properties, Audrey couldn’t help but exclaim when she saw the villa in front of her.
The villa had two floors, not too large or too small, comfortably accommodating two people.
It was clear that he had someone redecorate the house in the past couple of days because the style leaned towards the dreamy feel that girls like.
The overall feeling was similar to their previous home; Audrey particularly liked the balcony here, which overlooked a small river with the gentle sound of flowing water.
At the back of the house was a garden and a swimming pool. Seeing this home, Audrey even started to imagine their life together after having children.
If they could endure until that time, they’d probably be very happy, right?
Everything about the villa was great, except that it was far from her school, though it was closer to Warner Group, making Shane’s commute more convenient.
Another small dissatisfaction was that their rooms no longer shared a connected balcony, just a large window.
Even if it wasn’t on his way, Shane would still drive her to school every day before heading to work.
If he had time in the afternoon, he would come to pick her up. Most of the time, Audrey chose to take public transportation back so as not to trouble him. However, if she had evening classes, he would definitely come to pick her up personally.
As November rolled in, the weather grew colder by the day.
After her evening classes, as usual, Audrey stood at the bottom of the teaching building looking around, not spotting Shane’s car, so she obediently waited by the roadside for him.
"Snap!" Someone snapped their fingers, and when Audrey turned around, she saw Simon Sue.
He was wearing a large black down jacket with a fur-collared hood pulled up and a mask on. Even his fans might not recognize him the way he looked now.
The reason Audrey was so sure it was him was that, in school, the only men who would actively approach her were her big brother, Six, and Simon Sue.
"So late and you’re still not heading back?"
Audrey slightly distanced herself, looked away as if she couldn’t be bothered to look at him, and said irritably, "None of your business."
"Your husband isn’t coming to pick you up tonight? Do you want me to take you?" he said, pointing at his assistant’s car parked across the street.
Audrey curled her lips, "Thank you for your kindness, but my husband will be here soon."
"Alright then."
Audrey didn’t respond, deliberately turning away from Simon Sue.
Unexpectedly, the next moment, a gray scarf with his body warmth fell onto her neck, casually wrapped around once, "See you tomorrow."
Before Audrey could take it off and return it to him, Simon had already jogged across the road and left in the car.
If Simon’s little fans experienced such actions, they might have excitement-induced heart attacks.
Forget about the fan-idol dynamic, even between two not-so-familiar peers; if a guy were to take off his scarf and place it on a girl’s neck, that girl would likely feel her heart fluttering.
Audrey’s heart indeed fluttered, but not because of the scarf this man had worn, instead due to her guilty conscience.
She quickly took off the scarf, held it in her hand, and was stuck between keeping it or discarding it when a beam of car lights shone on her, stopping in front of her the next instant.
Audrey’s heart skipped a beat. She clutched the scarf tightly, trying to hide it behind her, not daring to sit in the passenger seat, she opened the back door instead.
Little did she know, today it was Shane’s driver driving the car. When she opened the door, she saw Shane sitting by the door.
At the moment they made eye contact, Audrey felt what it meant to be frozen in place by someone’s gaze.
She shivered unconsciously, awkwardly closed the door, hesitated at the passenger seat door for two seconds, realizing that choosing to sit in the passenger seat might make it seem like she was deliberately avoiding him out of guilt, somewhat like a pointless cover-up.
After wracking her brain for two seconds, she decided to walk around the car and opened the door to sit next to him.
Even though the heater was on in the car, the bulky scarf in her hand felt like a hot potato, making Audrey’s skin crawl with goosebumps, like a cold shiver down her spine.
The driver started the car, driving silently to the school gate without anyone speaking a word.
Secretly, Audrey glanced at him several times, sensing that he seemed unhappy, but then again, she thought he might just be too tired.
After all, he usually had a blank expression for no reason, and she only felt like he was angry because she was feeling guilty herself.
Furthermore, with so many students around and the poorly lit street lamps, he probably hadn’t seen Simon give her the scarf.
After considering this, Audrey swallowed, cautiously asking him, "Um... did you work overtime until now?"
"Mm."
His brief and cold response made Audrey swallow again. Trying to make small talk, she said, "You must be really tired then, right?"
Silence.
Audrey mentally counted the seconds as they ticked by, unsure what else to say.
When she finally mustered up a topic of conversation, she suddenly heard his voice, neither too soft nor too loud, saying, "Haven’t seen your scarf before. New purchase?"
Audrey paused, then went along with the excuse, awkwardly laughing, "Yes... just bought it."
"Since when do you like gray?"
Her clothing came in many colors, with very little black and almost no gray.
"...Just giving it a try."
Shane: "Then why don’t you wear it?"
Audrey looked at his expression before answering, "I’m not cold."
Another stretch of silence followed.
He turned to look out the window, while Audrey nervously twisted her fingers, alternating between looking out the window and sneaking glances at him.
After a dozen minutes, the car finally stopped outside the villa.
Shane was the first to open the car door and get out. When Audrey walked out, he was already at the door opening it.
Something felt off; normally, he would come around to open the door for her first.
She closed the car door and entered the house, changing shoes at the entrance while seeing him head straight upstairs.
Audrey lowered her eyes thoughtfully, feeling somewhat unsettled.
Not in the mood to play with the pets, Audrey went directly to her room, looking at the scarf in her hand. She frowned, tossed it into a paper bag, and tucked it into the bottom drawer of her nightstand.
Sitting at the edge of the bed and spacing out, she faintly heard some sounds outside.
She immediately stood up, walked to the door, and slightly leaned to put her ear to the door, listening for a moment before gently opening the door and peeking through the gap to see lights on in the gym.
Hesitating for a few seconds, Audrey opened her room door and walked straight into the gym.
In the gym, he was doing push-ups on a yoga mat at a rapid pace, as if venting some emotion.
Audrey walked into the gym and casually started using the elliptical machine.
"...Did you encounter something troublesome at work?" A few seconds later, Audrey initiated a conversation topic to talk to him.
