Mr. Hawthorne, Your Wife Wants a Divorce Again-Chapter 1089: A Scheme Within a Scheme
A message from Sept.
The content is brief, just a string of garbled numbers. At first glance, Ann Vaughn thought Sept might have accidentally pressed something wrong.
But as she looked closer, her expression suddenly changed.
Her delicate face gradually turned pale.
The arrangement of these numbers matched the cipher pattern Cyrus Hawthorne had taught her when he was bored.
Translated, it results in one sentence.
— Mr. Hawthorne suddenly disappeared over The Adamant Sea, his whereabouts currently unknown.
Ann Vaughn’s fingers gripping the edge of her phone suddenly tightened, so much that the tips turned white, a subtle pain she didn’t even notice.
Forcing down the surging anxiety in her heart, she furrowed her brows and began to think quickly.
The Zeus Base is near The Golden Palace in the Marla Desert, isn’t it?
Then why did Cyrus Hawthorne go missing over The Adamant Sea in J Country?
The geographical positions between them are vastly different, one in the northern hemisphere, the other in the southern, separated by thousands of kilometers, completely incomparable.
If it weren’t for the fact that the Hawthorne Family’s cipher pattern was impossible to duplicate and only insiders understood how to use it, Ann Vaughn would have doubted the message was truly sent by Sept.
In a daze, someone suddenly tapped Ann Vaughn’s shoulder.
"Why are you standing here looking lost?" Sherry had returned, holding a bag of snacks, the brands Annie and Kenny often ate.
Ann Vaughn’s red lips parted slightly, her delicate fingers curled up, but the words by her lips inexplicably swallowed back down. She shook her head, "Nothing much, just thought something happened to you since you hadn’t returned."
Casually sweeping over her phone screen, Sherry withdrew her gaze, then laughed, "Why are you more nervous than me? Didn’t I say it might just be my imagination?"
"Being cautious is never wrong." Ann Vaughn smiled, "It’s getting late, Kenny is sick at home waiting for me, I’ll head back first."
With a look of surprise, Sherry asked, "With you around, Kenny actually got sick? What’s going on, is it serious?"
"Not really, the little guy saw Cyrus pinning me against the wall by accident, and thought he was bullying me. So he found a bunch of martial arts videos to practice with, saying one day he would knock The Archfiend down begging for mercy." Ann Vaughn helplessly explained, "Then he twisted his little waist."
"Haha!" Sherry chuckled, "You’ve really got a treasure, full of energy every day. But although Kenny is small, a hurt waist is no small thing, better take care."
"These days nothing major is happening, I’ll stay home more to accompany him." Ann Vaughn’s eyes flashed gently, with fond yet helpless laughter.
"That’s fine, we can manage things at the medical office."
...
After dinner, Ann Vaughn took Kenny to Number 16 to let Wilder Sheridan accompany him for a while, then returned to Number 8.
Crane and Hex were already waiting for her in the living room.
Ann Vaughn wasted no time, diving straight into the topic, "You two are Cyrus Hawthorne’s most trusted subordinates, you’re likely already informed of his disappearance. So I won’t beat around the bush, I’m going to J Country, as soon as possible."
"But you don’t know the Family Head’s exact location, even if you went it would be pointless." Crane frowned in objection, "Please wait for our search team to send back news before making any plans."
"Crane is right, Young Madam, you have a special identity, combined with past events, J Country has been watching you closely. If you enter J Country territory, it will be hard to leave." Hex also advised.
"I’ve already made arrangements for this, you don’t need to worry." Ann Vaughn said, spreading a map on the table, pointing to The Adamant Sea on it, "Cyrus Hawthorne disappeared around here—this area is shrouded in fog year-round, ships deliberately avoid passing by, but I suspect the real Zeus Base is here."
Crane stared at her in amazement, "Why do you think that?"
Ann Vaughn pointed on the map, "Zeus Base hid in the Marla Desert for years without discovery, using natural geographic advantages and climate effects, showing they are highly cautious in hiding. Similarly, the only part in The Adamant Sea not detectable by satellite is within this fog."
"Do you mean the Family Head isn’t really missing, but entered Zeus Base?"
"In theory, it’s highly possible."
Crane and Hex exchanged glances, immediately straightening up, "We’ll send people to investigate there right away."
"Then I’ll also..."
"Young Madam, I believe the Family Head would prefer you stay here waiting for his return." Hex interrupted before she could speak, "Otherwise when the Family Head comes back, we won’t be able to explain."
Seeing Ann Vaughn’s hesitation, Crane’s eye twitched, "Young Madam wouldn’t want to leave the little master still sick alone at home, right?"
Ann Vaughn pressed her lips, helplessly nodding, "Then I’ll count on you."
"You’re too kind."
Crane and Hex quickly left to handle matters.
Ann Vaughn looked at the delicate patterns on the marble floor, lips lightly pursed, sight slowly lifting to lands on the bag of snacks on the table.
The drooped corners of her lips suddenly curled up.
...
Two days later.
The Adamant Sea, the vast azure sea stretches endlessly to the fog’s edge, gradually turning deep black, resembling ink jade under sunlight.
Beautiful yet treacherous.
As the fog cleared, revealing a corner of a verdant island and a blue-black flag fluttering in the wind.
In front of the nearby base entrance, two figures silently await inspection before entering.
A moment later, the entrance opened slowly, the two walked inside in succession.
Just stepping in, a brown-haired, blue-eyed man with a displeased expression approached, "Josiah, why have you changed assistants again? Do you know how complex the identity verification process is? And what if she’s like the others before..."
"Stop joking, Dean," Josiah Keaton raised a brow at him, "Do you think I would be that foolish?"
Dean Master Moore had nothing to say, looking sharply at Josiah Keaton’s female assistant, as he furrowed his brows, she shrunk back, half hiding behind Josiah Keaton.
Her body trembling slightly.
"Why pick such a timid assistant." Dean Master Moore griped, leading them forward, "You sure she won’t get scared seeing the things inside? I really don’t get you."
"Don’t underestimate her, maybe she can handle you all alone." 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
Dean Master Moore scoffed, not taking his words to heart.
