Chapter 346: Chapter 346: Face The Consequences

Kane looked over at Chantelle. She was focused on driving, which meant he was free to tell Railer about their godfather.

But Kane wasn’t the best storyteller. The more he talked, the more confused Railer was.

Stephanie swiftly intervened. "Our godfather is Mommy’s main doctor. When she gave birth to us, she was really weak. If he hadn’t taken care of us, we probably wouldn’t have made it."

The kids didn’t know the full truth about Xander, so they didn’t share much about who he really was.

"There was one time some bad guys tried to kill us," Kane added. "Our godfather saved us. He got slashed on the back while protecting us, and the scar is still there."

Stephanie nodded. "It was really scary. Mommy thought we weren’t going to make it. Then, out of nowhere, our godfather showed up like a superhero."

"Was it as bad as when Daddy saved us?" Railer interjected as Kane continued talking without stopping.

While Kane described how dangerous things were, Railer thought about the times Daniel had saved them too.

Those moments were just as scary, and their Daddy looked so cool when he rescued them.

"You’re right," Kane said. "Our godfather looked just like Daddy when he saved us! Man, we’ve been through a lot for kids our age."

Stephanie couldn’t help but laugh when she heard Kane’s words.

When Railer talked about how amazing Daniel was, Chantelle couldn’t help but think back to the time she had drugged him and left him unconscious on the floor.

Even now, heavy guilt flooded on her chest as she thought about it. It still hurts.

Suddenly, her phone rang. She didn’t like answering calls while driving, especially with the kids inside the car.

She was about to decline the call, but when she saw Daniel’s name on the screen, her hand seemed to have a mind of its own and froze in mid-air.

In that brief moment, Kane took the chance to snatch her phone. He even unbuckled his seat belt to grab it.

"Kane!" Chantelle scolded him.

Kane quickly sank back into his seat and said, "Sorry, Mommy. I’ll put my seat belt back on."

Chantelle glanced at him through the rear-view mirror. Kane raised his hand in surrender. "I’ll copy the safety guide twenty times when we get home."

Chantelle had written the safety guide just for them. It had rules on how to stay safe in dangerous situations, along with simple things like wearing a seatbelt inside the car.

She had made them memorize it word for word when Kane and Stephanie turned three.

"Kane, where are you guys now?" Daniel’s deep voice came through the phone.

Chantelle’s eyebrows drew together, and Kane shut his mouth. He didn’t dare say a word.

Railer spoke up instead. "Daddy, we’re safe."

"Tell me where you are now."

Daniel’s voice was calm, but they could feel the storm brewing underneath.

One wrong word, and he would explode.

For someone like Daniel, powerful and respected in Easthan, getting knocked out by a tranquilizer again was beyond humiliating.

On top of that, Chantelle hadn’t just knocked him out, she also had taken all the kids with her.

"Daddy, Mommy will bring us back soon. You don’t need to worry," Railer said softly.

"Rai, you know very well what happens when someone makes me angry."

Railer instantly remembered how frightening Daniel could be when he was angry. Railer trembled instantly.

Chantelle saw his reaction and raised her voice. "Mr. Wilson, if you’re angry, take it out on me. Don’t scare my children!"

"Chantelle, do you really think I’ll let you off?" Daniel growled from the eighty-eighth floor of the Silver Crest Global District. An IV drip was still attached to his arm. If Philip hadn’t given him a drug that weakened his strength, he would’ve already gone out to find them.

"I never thought you would," Chantelle replied.

In the past, she used to hope she meant something special to him. But now, even if she still found herself falling for him again and again, she kept reminding herself to stay sharp. She didn’t let herself dream anymore.

"Then get ready to face the consequences!" Daniel blurted out sharply as his voice was full of fury.

It sounded like he was about to smash his phone.

Kane glanced at the screen. The call was still connected. He hesitated, then said, "Daddy?"

There was no response on the other end. Kane asked again, "Daddy, why aren’t you hanging up? Are you trying to listen to what Mommy’s going to say to us?"

He kept guessing out loud until Daniel finally ended the call.

Chantelle was annoyed at first, but Kane eventually made her laugh.

She could already picture how angry Daniel must be right now.

Still, she thought Kane was probably right. Daniel didn’t hang up because he wanted to hear her voice. If she or the kids gave him the right excuse or softened him up, he might just forgive her.

"Daniel, calm down," Philip said as he walked in while eating fruit. "I just asked Thea. She said she had no idea Chantelle planned to go back to Carcosa."

He was about to place his wet hand on Daniel’s shoulder, but Daniel shot him a sharp glare.

"What did she say exactly, huh?" Daniel asked in a slightly calmer tone.

Philip quickly looked away and held the fruit up to his face. "Thea said that two days ago, Chantie was helping Steph pick a script. She thought Steph was going to act in a local film. She had no clue Chantelle was planning a trip to Carcosa."

Daniel sounded annoyed and a threat clearly added to his next words. "Do you know what happens when someone lies to me?"

Philip jumped to his feet and waved his hands. "My back’s been killing me lately. I can’t spar with you right now."

This running joke came from the last time Philip tried to lie to Daniel. As punishment, Daniel dragged him into the boxing ring. But it wasn’t just an ordinary sparring, Philip ended up getting beat up the entire time.

He became Daniel’s human punching bag that day.

Daniel stared at him lazily, waiting for him to tell the truth.

Philip knew he couldn’t keep lying. He took a few more bites, then let out a sigh and sat down next to Daniel.

"Chantie did tell Thea she wanted to bring the kids back to Carcosa," he finally admitted.
