Daniel stepped out. His tall figure and his confidence made him hard to ignore.

He walked straight toward Chantelle. There was a flicker of anger in his eyes, and his voice was sharp.

"Why are you here?"

Her eyes were red. After a full day at the boutique, she should have rested.

Seeing Daniel’s frown reminded Chantelle of six years ago. Back then, just one look like that would ruin her whole day. If he had asked her the same question back then, she would’ve made an excuse and walked away.

She didn’t like how this made her feel.

"Chantelle, what’s going on?" Daniel looked at her, puzzled. His voice pulled her out of her thoughts.

"Ruby’s tried to kill me more than once. I need to talk to her." Chantelle quickly brushed his hand aside.

"Fine, let me go with you." Daniel had planned to tell Chantelle to let him handle it. But when he saw the look in her eyes, he changed his mind.

She seemed different now.

Still, Daniel loved her even if she wasn’t the same.

They walked into the room where Ruby was being locked up.

Bodyguards stood everywhere. Ruby was tied to a chair and her mouth was covered with tape.

Daniel gave a signal, and the guards stepped out.

He took her hand, pulled her closer, and sat her down on the couch.

Chantelle tried to break free, but he held her tightly.

His serious look softened. A sly smile appeared on his face.

"No need to act shy. We’ve been married for a while, remember?"

He placed her hands on his lap.

"Daniel, let go," Chantelle said as her cheeks turned red. She could feel the warmth and strength from him through her palm.

Daniel noticed her flustered face and didn’t force her.

He raised her hand and kissed her palm.

Leaning to her ear, he whispered, "Don’t move... or you’ll find out what I’ll do next."

Chantelle’s eyes drifted to Daniel’s lower abdomen. She scoffed.

"You’re such a beast."

Daniel chuckled and grinned. "You’re too tempting, my wife. Just your eyes and the way you touch me—"

"Stop it!" Chantelle quickly covered his mouth.

However, Daniel stuck out his tongue and licked her palm.

Chantelle flinched, a shiver running down her spine.

Now she remembered why she always kept her guard up. This man was dangerous in the smoothest way.

Ruby couldn’t take it anymore. She let out a loud wail, both stunned and disgusted by what she saw.

Daniel looked up right away as his eyes turned cold.

Ruby was stunned. It felt like she was about to fall off a cliff again.

Chantelle finally pulled away from Daniel and walked toward Ruby.

She peeled off the tape from Ruby’s mouth.

Ruby looked like she was about to yell, but Chantelle spoke first.

"You better be careful with your words. I’m not someone you can mess with anymore."

"I’m still your mother! Let me go!" Ruby shouted, but she saw the fire in Chantelle’s eyes.

The weak, naive girl she once knew had disappeared.

Now, she was someone strong and someone who couldn’t be shaken.

"I told you to watch your mouth. Why don’t you ever listen?"

Chantelle suddenly grabbed Ruby’s chin.

Right then, two strange bugs crawled out from the bracelet on her wrist. They looked like oversized cockroaches.

The bugs crept onto Ruby’s face and crawled into her ears.

"What are these?! Chantelle, what are you doing? Get them out!"

Ruby panicked as she felt them move deeper inside her ears, heading straight for her head.

Chantelle stared at her. "I’m going to ask you something. You’d better tell the truth."

She let go of Ruby.

Daniel handed her a wet tissue, and she calmly wiped her hands.

Ruby’s eyes went wide. The bugs felt like they were biting her eardrums or chewing on her brain.

Chantelle asked calmly, "Who told you to kill Old Mr. Wilson?"

"I don’t know! I swear, I don’t know anything! Chantelle, how dare you do this to me! I’ll tear you apart!"

Ruby screamed like a madwoman. The bugs were driving her crazy.

Chantelle folded her arms across her chest while looking at Ruby. She watched Ruby struggle in the chair without a trace of emotion.

"You really think Daniel will protect you forever?" Ruby hissed. "He’ll throw you away like garbage soon! Without him, you’re nothing!"

She laughed bitterly. "Do you really believe he loves you? Think again. Six years ago, he saw you as a burden. So why is he suddenly acting like you’re special, just because he thought you were dead? You probably don’t even know that you..."

"Shut up!" Daniel suddenly stood and grabbed Ruby by the neck, cutting off her wild rant.

Chantelle hadn’t believed what Ruby was saying at first. But Daniel’s sudden reaction made her look at him seriously.

"I just didn’t want her messing with your head," Daniel said. He remembered Camille had once said something similar, and it had made Chantelle upset.

"Let her go," Chantelle said as she didn’t show much emotion. She just kept her eyes on Ruby, wanting to hear more from her.

Ruby gasped and then shouted, "Mr. Wilson, you almost killed Chantelle six years ago! Do you think she doesn’t hate you? She came back to destroy you!"

"She fooled you into falling for her so she could take everything! She wants to crush your pride... then leave you with nothing!"

As soon as Ruby caught her breath, she kept throwing words at Daniel.

Daniel’s face turned cold. He stared at her with a blank expression. No one could tell what was going through his mind.

Chantelle let out a cold laugh. She shot Ruby a sharp look.

"So, is Joseph’s only skill driving wedges between people?" she said. "Did he go through all that trouble to get you out just to deliver this message?"

Joseph had already tried the same trick through Kate before. Now he was at it again.

"Who’s Joseph? I don’t know what you’re talking about!" Ruby snorted. "Even if what I said hit a nerve, don’t start throwing nonsense just to dodge it!"

Ruby knew how to act. She talked smoothly without any sign of guilt.

Chantelle stood in front of Daniel, who was sitting. She reached out and lifted his chin.

"So now you know I came to you for revenge. What will you do about it?"

Daniel held her hand gently. "If it makes you happy, do whatever you want to me."
