Chapter 92: Chapter 90: There’s No Comparison Between You and Her (6)

The group then walked into the living room. Catherine, however, got up and returned to her room to redo her makeup.

She changed into another outfit. It was clear Mrs. Grant couldn’t stand her, and she realized it was practically impossible to win her over.

’I’ll have to use my last resort.’

Only then did she head straight for the living room.

When she reached the doorway and heard Mrs. Grant’s laughter, Catherine’s heart ached.

But she walked in, step by step, and sat down next to Nora Ainsworth.

Seeing how well Mrs. Grant and Nora were getting along while she was being completely ignored, she sneered inwardly. ’Just wait until I play my trump card. We’ll see how smug you are then, Nora Ainsworth!’

The entire afternoon was basically spent watching them chat. Catherine didn’t say a single word, just sat there stiffly for hours.

「During dinner that evening.」

She was still the one with no voice in the conversation. Quentin Grant watched Nora and his mother find so much to talk about, a slight smile playing on his lips.

"You’ve said more to my mom this afternoon than Jean has in a month."

Mrs. Grant agreed. "A month? More like three months. Lately, she’s out in the morning and back at night. I’ve spoiled that girl rotten!"

Nora said admiringly, "Mrs. Grant, Jean really does love you. No daughter doesn’t love her own mother. She’s probably just been very busy lately."

Mrs. Grant suddenly fell silent. Her gaze drifted to the dining table as if lost in a memory.

"Mrs. Grant?"

Mrs. Grant snapped back to the present. "Nora, seeing you always gives me such a sense of familiarity. Alright, let’s eat. It’s been a long time since I’ve eaten with my son. He hardly ever comes home anymore."

The four of them talked as they ate, and the meal ended up lasting a full hour.

In the middle of the meal, Nora Ainsworth’s phone rang. She glanced down, saw it was Leon Lynch, and excused herself to take the call outside.

"Hello."

"Have you eaten?" Leon always asked this question first whenever he called around mealtime.

"I have."

"Nora, where are you? I have something very important I need to see you about." His voice carried a tone of urgency.

"Do we really have to meet?"

"We really do."

Nora had never heard him sound so serious. "Alright, then. Wait for me at the entrance of the International Trade Tower."

After hanging up, Nora was a little puzzled. ’What could be so important that he absolutely has to see me?’

By the time she returned to the living room, the dinner had already ended.

Although she wasn’t full, she was too embarrassed to sit back down and continue eating.

Just as Mrs. Grant was preparing to leave, Catherine Callahan finally made up her mind. Mustering her courage, she said, "Mrs. Grant, I have something to show you. I think it’s something you’re very eager to see."

Mrs. Grant scoffed, "And what would that be?"

"You’ll know if you come with me, Mrs. Grant."

Mrs. Grant turned away. "I’m not interested."

Catherine saw her getting into the car, yanked the door open, and stuck her head inside. "Mrs. Grant, twenty-one years ago, did the Grant Family lose a baby girl who was almost a year old?"

Mrs. Grant’s eyes instantly widened, her face turning deathly pale. "How... how could you know that?"

Catherine struggled to calm her frantic heart. "Mrs. Grant, that... thing. Do you still want to see it?"

Mrs. Grant immediately got out of the car. Quentin Grant hadn’t heard what Catherine said to his mother, but he saw her follow Catherine into her bedroom.

The door was shut, leaving him and Nora outside.

He had no idea what happened.

But Nora had a bad feeling that Catherine was about to do something earth-shattering again.

「Time passed quietly.」

After an hour-long wait, the door finally opened. It was obvious that Mrs. Grant had been crying.

Catherine had a sorrowful expression on her face, but only she knew what she was truly feeling beneath that sadness.

Finally, Mrs. Grant said to Quentin, "I’m heading back now. Be good to Catherine. You must come home tomorrow."

Quentin raised an eyebrow. "What did you say to my mom?"

His gaze was sharp, pressing Catherine for an answer.

Catherine said in a low voice, "I just told Mrs. Grant about my past and about my determination to love you."

It was unclear whether Quentin believed her, but Nora felt she was lying.

’As for what she and Mrs. Grant really talked about,’ Nora thought, ’only the two of them know.’

After seeing Mrs. Grant off, Quentin looked at Catherine, said nothing, and left.

His figure gradually disappeared through the living room doorway. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞

Now, only Catherine and Nora were left at the main entrance.

Only then did she drop her facade. "Nora Ainsworth, do you want to know what trick I used to make Mrs. Grant do a complete 180?"

Nora understood her game. "I don’t want to know."

She turned and started walking toward the courtyard.

"Even if you wanted to know, I wouldn’t tell you. Nora Ainsworth, get ready. In less than a week, I’ll make you get out of here for good!"

Nora stopped in her tracks. She clenched her fist, then turned back with a light laugh. "Then I should really thank you for finally letting me out of this cage. I hope you hurry it up."

Catherine stood her ground. "You’re already at death’s door and still talking tough. I can’t wait to see you cry the day you get kicked out!"

Nora said no more and walked toward her own bedroom.

It wasn’t until she reached her door that she remembered her promise to Leon Lynch.

She went back to the main entrance, but by now, Catherine was gone.

When she arrived at the International Trade Tower, Nora saw that Leon Lynch’s car was still parked there.

She walked over quickly.

Standing by the car window, she said, "Sorry I’m late. Something else came up and delayed me."

Leon got out of the car and gave her a gentle smile. "It’s alright. No matter how long I have to wait, as long as you promised, I’ll keep waiting. Get in, I’m taking you somewhere."

Nora walked around and got into the car.

"Where are we going?" she asked, fastening her seatbelt.

Leon seemed to be in a very good mood. "Somewhere I can give you a surprise."

The car sped toward The Promenade.

About ten minutes later, he got out of the car and took her hand.

Then he blindfolded her with a black cloth. "You can take it off in a bit. Hold my hand. I’m sure you’re going to love this."

Nora followed his steps toward an unknown location.

She could feel them entering an elevator.

The elevator ascended slowly, climbing for a long time without stopping.

’This floor must be very high,’ she thought.

Just when she was about to lose her patience, the elevator finally stopped.

Leon finally led her out.

A strong gust of wind blew past, carrying a refreshing coolness.

"Can I take it off now?"

Leon’s voice rang out, "You can."

Nora yanked off the black cloth, but the scene before her instantly brought tears to her eyes.

They were on the roof of a very tall building.

The area was small.

But it was almost completely filled with decorations.

All around them were multi-colored neon lights, arranged to form flashing words: Nora, happy birthday!
