Chapter 254: Chapter 254: Brewing Storm (III)

Sisi glanced at Kael, and then looked back at Vestor. "Vestor, do you still remember your attacker’s face? Can you give me some description?"

"Ah, yes, Mistress. He attacked me in an alley at night, but I’m an owl and naturally have great night vision. That’s why I could avoid most of his attacks except the last one," Vestor said before his eyes looked up to recall the event. "He was a bit taller than our King, burly, and looked fierce. He had sharp claws akin to a beastman, but no other beastman traits. He also reminded me of Garou... once that stinky boy has obtained enough experience, of course."

"What do you mean reminded you of Garou, old man?" Kael asked.

"Hmmm, if my attacker had a pair of feline ears and a tail, he’d be very similar to Garou. I’d think of him as a panther, leopard, or..."

"Tiger beastman?" Sisi completed the last sentence.

"Yes, Mistress. If he had those beastman traits, he’d be a powerful tiger beastman," Vestor confirmed. "Though it’s my first time seeing a human with amazing physical prowess. It doesn’t even make sense to me, because I’ve seen many strong hunters entering Roc Forest, and none of them is as strong as he is."

"That’s because he’s not a human," Kael said grimly. "He is a beastman. No doubt about that."

"But he has no beast traits, My King..." Vestor muttered for a moment before his eyes widened as he just recalled something. "W-wait, My King, I... I have a theory that might help us know the identity of my attacker!"

"Tell me."

"When I was but a young owl, I traveled through many forests, and that included Jing Forest in the far east. I remember meeting with a panda beastman who could shift into his panda form easily, but when he shifted back to his beastman form... he had no beast traits! No black and white spots, no panda ears either. He looked very similar to those humans who lived in the Jing Empire."

"He told me that he liked going back and forth between the bamboo forest and the human civilization, because the humans often have their own ways to cook a regular bamboo shoot into something delicious. But of course, humans were always wary of beastmen, so he had to concoct a potion to hide his beast traits."

"But even if he hid his ears and black-and-white spots, he was still a beastman through and through, so he still had the same strength of a beastman and was able to climb like a panda."

Sisi remembered all the stories about places Marik had visited when he was just a teenage tiger, and how he came into contact with much forbidden knowledge, especially in Jing Forest where many events unknown to the beastmen in Roc Forest occurred, and much knowledge was left inside Jing Forest because traveling through Roc Forest was too dangerous even for beastmen.

Now she was even more convinced that Marik had used the same method to hide his beastman traits and slip into human civilization.

He was very smart after all. It shouldn’t be difficult to ignite even more people to start a war with the Beast Kingdom.

Kael glanced at Sisi and noticed her worry. It seemed that her suspicion was correct, so he told Vestor to recuperate for now and brought Sisi out of the office.

As they walked side by side back to the Queen’s courtyard, Kael asked, "So, it is him, right?"

"I am... almost sure that it is him," Sisi said. "He checks all the suspicions that I have. But it’s just... difficult for me to admit it, because I don’t understand why he would need to do that. I freed him back then so he could start a new life in Jing Forest, since I knew he’s not your match. But why would he need to return?"

Kael sensed that Sisi was genuinely clueless about Marik’s feelings.

Or maybe she already knew about it, but continued to be in denial, because they had been separated for a while.

Obviously, that damned tiger was in love with Sisi. However, he was wondering about Sisi herself.

Would she settle down with Marik if given the chance?

Maybe if Sisi had abandoned Jojo right in that cave and left with Marik, they would’ve successfully escaped to Jing Forest and built a family there.

If that happened, then Kael would never come to know a wonderful woman named Sisi...

Kael’s chest began to heave as he got upset with the made-up scenario in his head. He couldn’t help but get jealous, thinking that Sisi would end up with another man besides him.

Even if he knew that they were fated, Sisi was a half-human, and humans were notorious for illicit affairs.

He was also worried about Sisi’s stay here. He refused to believe that her grandmother would change her mind so easily, especially since Sisi said she was needed in faerie land.

Thus, he drew near her and gently held her hand. She was still wearing the flower ring that he put on her finger before they went to the faerie land, and the ring was emanating a scent that only Kael could smell.

He was satisfied seeing Sisi wearing the ring, and kissed the back of her hand gently. "Sisi, what do you think of me?"

"What do I think of you?" Sisi raised her brow. "That question is rather ambiguous, isn’t it? Speak clearly, Kael. You are a king after all."

Had it been another woman who said that to him, she would get punished for being impudent.

But Sisi was different. Kael was actually happy that Sisi scolded him a little, because it showed that she saw him as an equal—as a partner—rather than a king that she needed to obey or as Jojo’s father whom she needed to work with to raise Jojo.

His lips curled as he continued, "I just want to know if you’re in love with me..."

"What kind of stupid question is that?" Sisi’s frown deepened. "Is it necessary for me to give an answer?"
