Chapter 253: Chapter 253: Brewing Storm (II)

"Do you think he can do that much?" Kael asked. "I admit that he’s clever, but that’s just very far-fetched."

"I am not sure either. But my gut feeling says so," Sisi admitted. "He’s probably the strongest beastman I’ve ever met, only second to you. So, if there’s a man who can break Leah from the underground prison... then it’s probably him as well."

Sisi hadn’t felt the same dread as she had right now ever since that blizzard night, when Marik told her that they had to move right away or else Jojo’s father would find and capture them.

"Besides, he’s also taller than you in your beastman form, which is very rare, since I’ve only seen one more person with the same characteristic in the Beast Kingdom, and that’s General Pell."

"Hmph! The height doesn’t matter when I can just break his leg!" Kael suddenly raised his voice. He got a competitive streak as if his manliness had been challenged because of that statement from his beloved.

Of course, the height didn’t truly matter. General Pell was the tallest beastman in the Beast Kingdom, and he was still significantly weaker than Kael.

But Kael didn’t want Sisi to think that there was anything remotely better about that damned tiger compared to him. He had to be the best man in her eyes!

Kael’s sudden statement shocked everyone as well. But he had no need to talk about this with Sisi anymore. Since Sisi’s gut feeling told her that it was Marik, then it must be him.

If it wasn’t him... then he’d still try to capture that tiger and finish the job.

After all, Kael didn’t want Sisi to think about that bastard tiger anymore. There was only one spot in Sisi’s heart, and it had to be his.

Kael had always been selfish his whole life, but when it came to Sisi and Jojo, he became ten times more selfish and shed all the gentlemanly pretense.

Sisi patted his chest. "Calm down, Kael. We don’t know if it’s truly him. But we have to be careful..."

"Hm..." Kael nodded as he settled back into his throne before looking towards Grishaw. "Continue with your report. I’d like to know about the skirmish itself."

"After the death of that nobleman, about three hundred human soldiers gathered in front of our gate. I tried to reason with them, but the prince of Barion Kingdom refused to listen and shot me with his firearm instead. General Pell protected me, and after that the war just erupted," Grishaw recounted. "At that point, my focus was just to decimate the enemies immediately to minimize the casualties on our side, and we successfully killed them all with zero casualties. Though some beastmen were injured, none were life-threatening."

"However, the prince of Barion Kingdom escaped in the end, My King," Grishaw added the last detail before kneeling deeply once more, knowing that it was his fault for letting the enemy go.

Kael was surprisingly not dissatisfied with the result.

"At least we’re not the ones who started the war. But we have to be ready for any fight," Kael said. "I do not like waging a war when it’s unnecessary, because all we need is to control the entire Roc Forest eventually. Roc Forest is more than enough to sustain us with riches and provisions for generations to come."

What Kael said resonated with the beastmen in the throne room.

Beastmen were naturally strong and very territorial. But most of the time, they just wanted to protect their tribe and territory from invaders.

Those who invaded other tribes were either forced to do it for better living conditions for their own tribe, or they just had the strength enough to unify the beastmen, just like the Beast King.

"There will be a war ahead of us. Those humans are proud and also insecure at the same time. They’ll be terrified knowing there is a kingdom full of beastmen that’s growing in power inside Roc Forest and want to crush us before we become too big," Kael concluded. "So I want all of you to train your soldiers and prepare for the worst. I’ll handle the preparation for war later."

"But for now, I want to check on Vestor," Kael added. "Where is he?"

"He is in the physician’s office, My King," Grishaw replied.

"Alright."

Kael got up while carrying Sisi in his arm and said, "Today’s court is dismissed. Don’t forget to bury all those human soldiers. At least they can be good fertilizer for the surrounding area."

"Understood, My King!"

Kael carried Sisi out of the throne room and headed straight to the physician’s office to check on Vestor.

The physician told him that Vestor’s wound was severe, but since he received quick treatment, it shouldn’t be life-threatening.

Kael and Sisi stood next to Vestor’s bed as he bowed his head humbly. "I’m sorry that I cannot kneel in front of you, My King. It’s too difficult to get up for now."

"Worry about your own injury first, old man," Kael said. "I know that you’ve done a great job so far, and I know you treated that human nobleman with respect. Though nobody could foresee that he was nothing but fodder to be used as a reason to start a war."

Vestor deeply regretted not kicking that merchant out. But at the same time, he had been working according to the customs in the Beast Kingdom.

"My King, the war is coming, and I am not sure if I can assist you in the field at that time. But I will try my best to work around the palace and make sure our bureaucracy works normally even in a dire situation," Vestor said.

Kael scoffed. "What dire situation? I am more than willing to entertain them."

Kael’s arrogance wasn’t without reason, since he was indeed absurdly strong.

But Vestor was worried about one thing. "We need to be careful of enemy intruders. The intruder from that night caused the death of three hundred humans!"
