Mommy Wolf: Raise A Cub, Claimed By His Beast Daddy-Chapter 252: Brewing Storm (I)
"Tell me what makes you incompetent," Kael ordered.
"I failed to reach a diplomatic peace between our kingdom and Barion Kingdom, resulting in a small skirmish that caused at least three hundred human soldiers’ deaths!" Grishaw said. "I-I can tell you everything, My King. But please don’t punish anyone else except me after this, because I was the one who commanded them to go to war!"
"Hmmm... Barion Kingdom, huh?" Kael’s eyes glinted dangerously as he recalled the biggest human kingdom in the west. "I’d like to know what happened in detail. And I want to know where the hell that old owl is. He’s supposed to take care of this mess!"
"R-replying to you, My King..." Grishaw knew that it was technically his fault because he couldn’t solve the problem through diplomacy. But he had never been a good talker; that was Vestor’s expertise.
Unfortunately, Vestor was heavily injured before the skirmish.
"The nation advisor has been... severely injured."
"Injured?"
"Yes, the day before the small war, we got a visitor from Barion Kingdom, a nobleman who disguised himself as a merchant, looking to sell some of his unique items that you might like. We treated him amicably, even giving him a house to live in until he was done with his business here. But in the night, his two guards were assassinated and he was also killed by a mysterious man," Grishaw reported everything as factually as possible. "Sir Vestor heard the commotion and wanted to check by going from his house to the merchant’s location, but was attacked by the same person who killed the human nobleman."
"He was able to dodge a fatal attack, but his chest was pierced and he lost so much blood, My King."
"Did you catch that attacker at least?" Kael asked.
Grishaw paused for a few seconds before kneeling even deeper than before. "We tried, but he was too fast. He was even faster than Garou, who is our most talented general. Garou said that he tried to catch up, but that man moved quickly and seemed to know the layout of the city."
Kael’s gaze darkened even further. He looked so angry right now, and for good reason.
Based on what Grishaw said just now, it seemed that the attacker deliberately killed the human nobleman to incite a war, or at least a disagreement between the two kingdoms. Though there was still a lot to tell right now.
"Since Garou chased after that attacker, did he at least get a good look at him?"
"Garou said that he is not so sure, My King. Because the attacker did not have human features, but the way he moved was very similar to that of a beastman," Grishaw replied. "On top of that, he also had claws sharp enough to pierce through Vestor’s chest in just one hit."
While Kael was still guessing the attacker’s identity, Sisi’s face began to visibly pale. She had a gist of what was happening—at least her gut feeling told her that she knew who that attacker was.
"The attacker... is he... very tall?" Sisi asked.
"Yes, Mistress. The attacker is very tall and burly. He’s a bit taller than the Beast King in his current form," Grishaw confirmed.
Kael sensed that Sisi was trembling. He frowned and caressed her back gently to calm her down. "What’s wrong? Do you know something about this attacker?"
"... "
Sisi slowly turned her head towards Kael, who suspected nothing. She began to feel guilty, because everything might be a butterfly effect of what she had done when Kael found them during that blizzard chase.
"Sisi?" Kael called her name again, and Sisi snapped out of her daze. She turned towards the beastmen who were kneeling in front of the throne and gulped as she leaned closer towards Kael.
She whispered, "I have a guess on who the attacker is."
Kael raised his brows and then leaned even closer to listen attentively to what Sisi was about to say.
"I think that attacker is the same person who freed Leah from the underground prison. For someone to be that skilled, he needs to be fast, strong, and very smart."
"What I mean by strong is... very strong. Because he needs to be able to beat Garou in a fight or at least outrun him, and Garou is the best at close combat after you," Sisi continued. "And there’s only one beastman that fits the category, Kael."
"It’s Marik. The tiger beastman."
Kael’s eyes widened instantly. He gripped the armrests so hard that everyone heard a crack.
When they lifted their heads, they were shocked to see the armrests made out of marble had been crushed like they were made out of sand.
They had no idea what the king and the mistress were whispering about, but it was enough to anger the Beast King completely.
Of course, Kael was angry.
At that time, he was more than ready to execute that bastard who harmed his son and forced him to take the Dusk Star curse once again.
But he also couldn’t blame Sisi for releasing him, because they still had a connection back then.
It was mostly his fault, because rather than killing that damned tiger immediately in their battle, Kael decided to toy with him for a while before subduing him.
"How could you be so sure, Sisi? Do you have any proof?" Kael asked.
Now, killing that damned tiger would be very easy for Kael. But Marik was more crafty than anyone he had ever known. 𝘧𝓇ℯ𝑒𝓌𝑒𝑏𝓃𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘭.𝒸ℴ𝓂
Marik knew that he couldn’t win against Kael when Kael had discarded his curse, so he created a gang of strong tigers to ambush him.
Now that Kael had accepted his curse once more, he wouldn’t win no matter how many tigers he gathered, so he turned to do something bigger.
"Marik is knowledgeable. He traveled through different forests and gathered much information. Who knows he may have found a way to hide his beastman features and slip into human territory to ignite a war."
