As Sami faced the ice Death Knight in the school's playground, Lexia was halted outside by a shadow Death Knight, who prevented her from supporting Sami in her battle.

Lexia was nervous from the very first moment they entered the necropolis, but she wasn't scared of the undead—she was scared of becoming one of them again.

When she remembered the pain she brought to her brother after her death and subsequent revival as an undead amalgamation, she focused on her opponent and sharpened her gaze.

While Sami used umbra for her spells, as her soul was that of a demon, Lexia used mana. However, she wasn't as experienced as Sami since she could already cast advanced demonic spells.

"I'll have to use all of my arsenal…" Lexia muttered to herself, opening two compartments from her shoulders and extruding two small turrets from them, each with six missile barrels.

Inside the playground, Sami and the ice Death Knight were exchanging blows from a close distance.

Sami covered her fists in umbra, making each of her strike's impacts much stronger, which began pushing the knight back.

When the knight finally decided to wield both of his axes, a blizzard appeared out of nowhere and made the temperature drop even more.

Initially, Sami would have ignored the cold wind, but when her system alerted her that her insides were freezing, she had to put her body in overheating mode to avoid it.

Overheating was a feature that all androids had in their bodies. Since the Azure Rebels were situated on the north side of Novaria, where there was lots of snow, they needed to come up with a way to prevent their soldiers from getting damaged by the cold.

As Sami's body seemed to get slightly red from the heat and produced warm steam, the Death Knight rushed forward with his weapons in hand, thinking that he had halted Sami's movement.

Nevertheless, Sami clasped her hands together and chanted, "Shadow whips," generating numerous whips made of shadows that began lashing everything around her, striking the knight on his face and making him step back.

The lash wasn't strong enough to knock off his helmet, but it left a mark, and it was enough for Sami to understand that she needed to land a few more hits before she could win.

The fight between the two cyborgs and their respective opponents continued for a little over ten minutes, and by that time, the two of them had analyzed the knights thoroughly.

When the shadow Death Knight rushed forward with his claws prepared to tear to strike Lexia, the cyborg's expression turned cold and severe.

"Thunder Blast," Lexia muttered, making her arms produce an excessive amount of electricity.

The shadow knight had no way of avoiding the spell. He was already too close to Lexia, and the lightning that shot out of her hand appeared in the blink of an eye, striking him in the chest and utterly shattering his armor.

After the knight was blasted away and crashed against the walls of the school, Lexia used her propulsors to hover above him.

"Sorry…" Lexia muttered, shooting another massive lightning down to the ground and burning her opponent to a crisp.

Lexia had never been a fighter. She received some combat training when she was young, as it was required for all members of the Spring family, but it wasn't the type of thing she enjoyed doing.

Moreover, the fact that she had to kill her opponents left her with a sour feeling. She knew that they were undead and their existence was a threat to all humans in the world. Still, Lexia had a human soul, so the pain of taking a life stuck to her.

After snapping back to reality, she quickly made her way back to the playground to assist Sami. However, when she arrived, the fight had already concluded.

The body of the ice Death Knight was lying on the slightly frozen ground, his head missing.

Sami stood before the necrotic core with a serious expression, which was strange for her to have, and as Lexia got closer, she began hearing the whispers of the dead coming from the orb, asking them for help.

"Are you okay, Sami?" Lexia asked, landing beside her.

"Yeah… I just—I just wanted to hear them for a bit," Sami replied with a somber tone.

Lexia remembered that Sami was given a task as an android, which was to always protect the people of Novaria, and after she became a hell-cyborg, this command was still ingrained in her brain.

While Lexia believed that wanting to protect others was a good ideal to have, she couldn't bear seeing the cheery cyborg acting so unhappy for something that wasn't her fault.

"Sami… This was not your fault. You know that, right?" Lexia said, trying to comfort her friend.

"Right… I know that," Sami replied with apprehension.

"You can't save everyone, Sami. It's just not possible… You should focus on saving the people you can reach," Lexia continued.

"The ones I can reach, huh?" Sami repeated.

The hell-cyborg was well aware that there was nothing she could do for the souls inside the orb. She knew that she couldn't save every single person in Novaria—still, her emotions acted on their own.

After clenching her fists and slamming the necrotic core, which was shattered into pieces, Sami turned to look at Lexia with a wholly determined face.

"Lexia, let's go save all the people we can!" Sami exclaimed.

Their job was to scout the necropolis and destroy or kill any undead and cores they found. Truthfully, there was nobody in the area that could have been saved, so Lexia thought of an alternative.

"Let's move closer to the border of the necropolis… We could scout for anyone who hasn't evacuated the districts," Lexia replied.

As the cyborgs used the jet propulsors in their bodies to fly to the border where the death's ichor supposedly stopped, they noticed that the necropolis was expanding to the other nearby districts, so if they wanted to save anyone, they would have to move quickly.
