Modern Weapons Cheat in Fantasy World-Chapter 36: Wait, There’s Something
It did look like his mission was done here. He has annihilated the entire goblins from that cave, and even killed the shaman using a bomb drone. However, is it all there is?
He has to make sure that there is no goblins in that cave. And that means, he’ll have to go there by himself.
He also learned that goblins could capture women alive and do things to them. Meaning, there could be women inside of it.
"It can’t be help."
Dressed in his active combat uniform, he went inside the cave with his M4 Carbine angled forward, stock pressed firm against his shoulder.
The entrance was gruesome with the carcasses of goblins caused by the havoc of the machine guns. It made the ground slippery so he carefully trotted forward and then using his memory earlier of the drone path, he managed to get to the cave hall unharmed.
There, he could see it, the dead shaman, its upper body missing from its lower half. Arms and limbs scattered around the impact point.
The blast had blackened the stone behind it. Fragments of bone and cloth were embedded in the wall. The staff it held earlier was split in two, one half lying a few meters away.
Marcus slowed down.
He didn’t approach immediately.
Instead, he scanned the area first.
Left.
Right.
Corners.
The pillars.
Nothing moved. He continued exploring the cave, looking for pathways and saw a path opening along the right side of the chamber.
It wasn’t obvious at first. The entrance was partially covered by uneven rock and shadow, but once he stepped closer, the outline became clear.
A narrow passage.
Lower than the main tunnel.
Marcus angled his rifle toward it and moved in. 𝕗𝐫𝐞𝕖𝕨𝐞𝗯𝚗𝕠𝘃𝐞𝚕.𝐜𝗼𝚖
The ground changed as he entered. Less debris. More damp soil. The air felt heavier.
And then—The smell hit.
Stronger than before. And something worse. It smelled rotten.
The passage curved once, then opened into a smaller space.
And there, he saw it.
A cage.
Made from uneven wooden bars tied together with rope and strips of cloth. It wasn’t well-built, but it was enough to keep something inside.
Marcus stepped closer.
Then he saw them.
Women.
Eight of them.
Huddled together inside.
Their bodies were thin—bone thin. Skin stretched over ribs. Arms frail. Some had marks on them. Bruises. Cuts. Dirt layered over their skin.
Their clothes were barely holding together.
Some are just scraps.
The smell came from them.
Marcus stopped a few steps away.
For a moment, he didn’t say anything.
One of the women slowly lifted her head.
Her eyes unfocused at first.
Then she saw him. Expecting it to be a goblin but instead, it was a man.
Her lips parted slightly.
"...Help..." she whispered.
Marcus exhaled slowly.
"...Yeah. I’m here."
He stepped forward.
But before breaking the cage, his eyes shifted.
To the side.
Another path.
Not far from where the cage was. He went over there first, checking if there were goblins hiding there. His M4 Carbine was ready to fire and was aimed in front of him.
Ten seconds later, he saw goblins. But they were small, like the size of an infant. There were a lot of them, like 47 to be exact. Even though they look pitiful, they were goblins, and they were going to do horrendous things once they matured.
And the mission stated that to exterminate all goblins. Even if it’s a baby, they are still goblins.
It’s going to be a waste of bullets killing defenseless baby goblins.
Marcus stepped forward without hesitation.
The first one barely reacted. It made a weak sound as the blade came down, the resistance almost nonexistent. He pulled the knife back out and moved to the next one.
He moved through them one by one, each strike placed cleanly, always aimed at the head. Some of them tried to crawl away, dragging their small bodies across the damp ground, but they were too slow to get anywhere. Marcus adjusted his footing and brought his boot down when needed, crushing them against the cave floor before finishing them off with the knife.
The chamber was filled with low, broken noises at first, but those faded quickly as he continued.
He moved deeper into the chamber, making sure none were left behind. Some were tucked into corners, others half-hidden behind rocks or scraps of cloth, but he checked every spot.
After a few minutes, the sounds stopped completely.
Marcus stood there for a moment, scanning the entire area again, making sure there was no movement left. The floor was still now, nothing shifting, nothing breathing.
"...That’s all of them."
He wiped the blade against a torn piece of cloth on the ground, cleaning off what he could before returning it to its sheath.
Then he turned and walked back toward the main chamber, toward the girls at the cage.
And he arrived in front of the gate, and Marcus kicked the lock with a powerful kick, destroying it.
"Can you guys walk?"
"...Who...are...you?" one of the girls asked.
"I’m an adventurer from the city of Berm. Tasked on exterminating goblins in this area. There are no more of them now. Raised hands to those who can walk on their own?"
Almost none of them raised their hands. Perhaps they were too weak due to how the goblins mistreated them. He could tell they weren’t even given food. Still, they have to get out of the cage.
Their weight seemed to be on a lighter side, given the constitution of their body. Perhaps, he could carry two of them at the same time? He had already cleared the cave of goblins, and so there’s no threat. If there was, it would have come out by now.
"Okay, I’m going to carry two first. The others will have to wait? Is that understood?
They nodded weakly.
And so, Marcus grabbed the first two survivors, the one that looked to be the heavier of them all so that it’ll be easy for later when the lighter girls are left.
