MMORPG: Rebirth of the Legendary TimeKeeper-Chapter 135: Meanwhile: Gregory’s Night Walk
A few hours before dawn, Gregory Valice woke up with an intense headache.
He was thirsty, hungry and extremely tired. It felt as if he hadn’t eaten in weeks, if not days, and as for his current situation, even taking a single step outside of the bed made him feel like he would run out of breath any moment.
Shit. This is worse than a hangover! He cursed under his breath before forcing himself to walk out of his bed. Even though he felt dizzy, he was somehow able to carry himself outside the room, into the kitchen.
Taking out a bottle of water, he drank it all in a single go, emptying it completely. It did not exactly make him feel better, but the built-up gas in his stomach escaped as he drank that water, reducing his headache somewhat.
It also made him somewhat more energetic, enough to move his body.
I hope they have something in the fridge. He hoped, opening the fridge, where two leftover sandwiches were neatly kept in the corner.
Taken over by hunger, he grabbed those and ate them without even considering heating them, before drinking another glass of water.
Since the headache wasn’t subsiding, he checked the countertop for aspirin.
Lucky! And finding a pack of them, he took two tablets at once before sitting on the sofa in the living room for the next 30 minutes until the headache completely subsided.
He was still groggy, but the pain was gone, allowing him to think somewhat more clearly than before.
"I can’t exactly edit with this much lethargy," he mumbled as the muscle soreness, added to the lack of proper eating for the past day, was still hard to immediately recover from. The least he could do was to stretch and take a walk in the neighbourhood.
As he walked outside, he observed the calmness of the area. It was far cleaner, greener and much more alive than where they had been living before. It gave him a sense of safety that he didn’t feel back in the old apartment.
The rich sure do feel different. He mumbled, looking at the girls walking in the distance, laughing and chatting with each other. He could never imagine this scene anywhere else in the city.
With his mood brightened, he took out his phone and scrolled through the thousand messages he had received. A brief look of a few minutes before he clicked ’delete all’ and then closed his phone once again.
Similar to Blaze, the messages on his phone were also for similar reasons. They were from old acquaintances, high school, and neighbours who barely knew him. Anybody who knew him or Blaze, even for a day or two, was trying to approach him.
Fuckers. He cursed under his breath before trying to focus on something else.
For now, about buying the apartment just opposite to Blaze and Angelica’s.
It was almost a copy of theirs, except that it had an extra balcony and a better view. The price was $3,700,000, but if the negotiations went nicely, he could bring it down to $3.5 million.
Hopefully, I can make that much in the next 6 months. He added in his mind as he planned to spend the next half year with Angelica and Joshua. For now, he was just going to pay one-third of the rent in Blaze’s room while occupying a single room.
While he was thinking that, he was also wondering if he could wait longer and then save 10 Million Dollars before buying one of the smaller villas in the locality. It wasn’t a far-fetched idea given the amount of success they had right now. Hopefully, they could earn that much.
If only these fuckers could just leave us alone. He sighed as if everything would have been fine; they would have transferred about a year later with enough savings in their account. But because of the stalkers and the persistent family members, they had no option but to escape here, where they were far safer.
Walking deeper into the locality, he found the local general store. That place sold a wide range of items, ranging from the dishes you would find in fancy restaurants to common snacks available at everyday stores.
This for me. This for Angelica. This for me. This for Josh. This for me. This for more. As he moved from counter to counter, he bought about two dozen snacks that he was going to eat tonight. And while he did so, he even added a few more for the brother-sister duo.
One of Gregory’s most favourite hobbies was shopping. He loved it! Whether it was shopping for clothes, his favourite laptop and PC, or just mundane sweets and snacks, he was up for it anytime.
It was his relaxation ritual that he did anytime he was stressed. Which happened to be more often than not.
Followed by streaming, gaming and editing. What were his three main activities? They were things that he used to do in his free time, but as he grew up, these things that he loved somehow became his main source of income. So much so that he dropped out of college just in his second year, despite being a scholar student.
While he didn’t get accepted into any of the professional jobs in these departments, it wasn’t because of a lack of skill but the corruption of the system. Because he could not pay the commission to the examiner, because management demanded under-the-table money, because the director asked him for 90% of all the money he would earn, he could never get a proper chance to shine.
And now that I am getting famous, the same fuckers are trying to call me back, huh? Gregory mumbled as he found this whole situation mildly amusing.
"That’s quite a lot for a charming guy like you," the old lady at the counter said with a smile on her face. She observed Gregory for a few seconds before asking,
"Midnight snack for the week?"
She was a curly-haired, 60-year-old woman, wearing silver-chained glasses. Wearing the red employee T-shirt, she scanned the items one by one while observing Gregory’s body and figure.
"For friends," he answered in a polite tone without adding much.
The last thing he wanted was a Grandma having a crush on him.
"That’s quite nice of you. I wish Emily could make some friends," a sigh escaped her mouth as she looked behind Gregory, far on the other end, where a young blonde was stocking up the food items. Just like the old woman, she too was wearing a red employee T-shirt.
"Is that hard?" Gregory asked, as he had never had trouble making some friends. Though that was just for the fun stuff. Friends like Joshua, on the other hand, were an extremely rare find.
"It sure is for her," the old lady scanned the last item. Gregory took a last look at Emily before politely thanking the old lady and then leaving.
Walking back towards the apartment, Gregory looked at the morning sunlight shining brightly on the horizon. As the sky turned brighter, the birds sang, and a pleasant view of the blue welcomed Gregory.
Though Gregory could only sigh.
After he was refreshed enough, he once again recalled everything that had happened in the game. He questioned how he was still not good enough and how he was always getting left behind others.
Since there is still time before the raid, I should do a bit more research on the subclass. Maybe I can find something to my liking. He thought as he realised that staying on average, or following what everyone else was doing, was not going to help him at this party.
This particular party was made up of monsters, and if he wanted to do something special, he must choose a path that was as far away as possible from what was normal.
He decided to search for things that were as rare as possible. It doesn’t matter how difficult it was going to be. It was something he must do. There was no other way around it.
Perhaps I can ask Ezekiel for advice? This time, we are focusing on a [Rare] Subclass that is hard to achieve. He pondered deeply about it as he slowly reached back to the apartment.
Reaching back, he immediately began viewing the subclasses that he needed. At first, he only selected those that would benefit his main class, but after researching a bit more, he started looking at other rare subclasses as well.
Most of them are good enough, but they won’t be useful at all if I want to stay at the party. Is there something I can use for that skill I received? He then began to think over it from another perspective.
To base his playstyle around that skill rather than his class. Being able to store 5 skills was a pretty overpowered skill in a way, which made him think it was a good idea.
And once he started looking from that direction...
Oh! This is...
He found a class that somehow made him feel like it was made for him.
