MMORPG: Rebirth of the Legendary TimeKeeper-Chapter 136: The GateKeeper
Waking up at five, I followed my daily schedule as usual. Setting up the bed, eating, jogging, before taking a quick shower and breakfast. Once done with that, I entered the game before finding out that Trisha and G were already there.
"Morning," I said, to which they greeted me back.
"Boss. We were waiting for you," Trisha added before continuing," there was something that confused me about this raid."
Gesturing her to continue, I sat on a nearby stone.
"When we came here, you said that this place had a garden, a cemetery and also a ruin. I could understand the garden and the cemetery, but why would the temple have a ruin? Like either the Temple could have turned into a ruin itself, or the entire structure of whatever building remained here could have just stayed the same, like how the temple is," she gave her opinion while posing the question.
"How about I explain this to everyone? They should be here within a few minutes," I responded. Trisha paused and then nodded in agreement.
It didn't take long, at most 10 more minutes for the rest of the party to arrive.
"All right, since everyone is here, let's first start with the basic things I have collected about the temple itself," I said as I recalled the information I had. It was an interesting lore that connected far back to the mythical era in the game when the Gods walked upon the lands, and the devils waged war at every chance they could get.
I began explaining in some detail because I thought it could be a selling point for the videos.
The Ancient Temple of Time.
It was created by the God of Time himself.
According to the legends, the God of Time had many names. Starting with the fact that he wasn't just the God of Time but also the God of Space and the God of Neutrality.
Standing along with the other two major Gods, the God of Life, and the God of Death, he was probably one of the most powerful Gods to ever exist in the history of Arcadia.
During those mythical eras, followers of various Gods, such as Saints, would constantly go to war against the demons and demonkin. They would fight with their lives on the line and more often than not bring back the bodies of their enemies with them. Alive or dead, it did not matter.
And during that time, every temple had at least four facilities within the temple. One was the garden, which was also the place where holy water, holy blessed fruits and vegetables were grown.
It wasn't just an average garden but one of the most important areas within the boundaries of the temple.
The second was the Cemetery where the dead were buried. But it was also the place where the legacies were found. People would more often than not carry a will in their soul that can be passed on to the warriors who were worthy of it.
That was the second part of the cemetery that they were going to follow through on later. After they defeated the gatekeeper to the inner graves.
Lastly, there was the prison garden, on the other side of the temple. They were the same ruins that Ezekiel and the party were going to hunt later on. Dead spirits of the devils resided there, while also tools that helped weaken those devils.
That was the main significance of the ruins.
As for players, it was the place where they could find rare weapons and items if they were to succeed in going deeper enough.
It was also the place I barely ventured into because of how complex it was. I could reach the fourth level of the ruin, but any further required at least 3 people with me. I sighed on the inside before continuing to explain.
"The last thing that I found in the information was the Basement of the Temple, but I have no idea what it may have. Maybe some sort of ancient weapon or something? Could be, could not be. But we have to figure that out after we enter the temple," I ended my explanation with that.
Looking at the excited expression on their faces, I couldn't help but chuckle. I just told them that it would be extremely difficult, but the words 'legacy', 'unique and rare weapon' and 'special powers' rang more into their ears than the difficulty itself.
"With that being done. Let's begin the next part of our quest. That is, defeating the gatekeeper," I added as I began walking towards the sleeping man near the mausoleum.
"If you read his description, you will find out that he is an immortal boss monster. Which means that he cannot die, and it also means that we would need to bury him while he is alive. But since he also has an HP bar, it probably means that we can at least weaken him," I said before turning to the rest of the party.
"But we won't be doing it together. This time, I need you all to try fighting him alone by yourself," I said before looking at Blaze, the weakest combat member of the party right now.
"Blaze. I need you to fight him without using your [Throw] skill. Try to defeat him as fast as possible," I commanded him, to which he nodded.
This should be enough to gauge their current capabilities. I mumbled in a low voice as I watched Blaze walking into the yellow flowered circle.
Tightening his grip on the spear, he entered the fighting area.
This test would be very useful in analysing how much we can push through in the dungeon ruin area, making it easier to divide rolls once we arrive there. Especially since we might need to fight on our own in some of the areas. If this is not done and assessed, we could potentially leave a fatal opening. One that could get very heavy for us later on.
At first, nothing happened, but after a few seconds had passed, the boss monster, as if a drunk homeless man, stood up, barely maintaining his posture.
"Hmmm? We finally have visitors here? A few young ones, I see," he said in a calm, soothing voice, not matching his rough, muddied attire at all. His movements felt graceful. His smile was radiant.
He looked around the area, especially at us, before looking at the graves where we had buried all the zombies and prayed for their passing.
"Hey! You helped my brothers get salvation!" He said with a joyful expression. His eyes glistened bright as he then continued with a polite bow,
"They have been walking this world for far too long. Neither dead nor alive, it was the worst situation they could have been cursed into. Thank you so much, adventurers! You have done a deed that one cannot express in words. If I were not changed by my circumstances, I could have given you any reward that you had asked for."
Was he this kind to me when I did it? Why can't I remember it? I narrowed my eyes. A bit puzzled at the difference.
"But I must apologise," he then took out a rapier from his worn-out jacket. His eyes narrowed at Blaze as he continued,
"It is the duty of a gatekeeper to protect the gate from trespassers. Unless you have a permit to get into the graves of the great men, I am afraid that the only way you would be getting into the grave is by defeating me."
Despite those ominous words, his kind face had a little bit of a grieving expression.
"And how are we supposed to do that? I mean, getting that permit," Blaze asked. Despite being just about to fight him, hearing that there was another way to enter the mausoleum, he decided to hear out the man.
"It's good to see so many kind souls trying to do things the right way. But as great and neat as your intentions are, there is no way an outsider would be granted permission from the pope. Only those who had sacrificed their entire lives to the great cause of our God are allowed to set foot into the temple. And those who are specifically chosen by our God," that man answered with a regretful expression before adding,
"Quiet pesky rules, aren't they?"
Blaze could only look at that man before answering,
"I think they are good rules."
That man smiled subtly before posing his rapier towards Blaze. His eyes focused as he looked at him, waiting for Blaze to make the first attack.
Understanding that the conversation part was over, Blaze couldn't help but sigh. He wanted to talk more to the man. Find out more about the ruins and the secrets behind them.
Hopefully, there would be more answers inside the Temple. He thought as he then readied his spear.
"All right. Let's do our best," he mumbled before moving closer to the man, hoping to get his first attack in.
