MMORPG: I was BUGGED-Chapter 277: Unveiled Alliance
Ragnarok Reaper should have just announced it in the first place, but their reputation was at stake.
If the news got out that some player(s) managed to break into the top four guilds without them knowing, they would become the laughingstock of everyone, and their prestige would take a hit.
Besides, he wasn’t sure of the other players’ motives.
But now that they had KS their kill and received the rewards, he couldn’t just sit idly by.
Though they had saved the town, they were the ones who reduced the Demon Dragon’s HP, and it was only right that they would get a part of those rewards.
Moreover, they needed those rewards to cover their capital in this expedition. Many investors had put a significant amount of money into this expedition, and they couldn’t afford to come out of it negative.
"Are you sure?" Doom Harbinger asked. "If this gets out, we would be a laughing stock in the media . . . the whole world."
"It’s better than having our rewards snatched right before our eyes," Ragnarok Reaper said as he stood to his feet.
"Besides, if we assume that our theory is right, then this player or players have access to the underground and could influence Poppy and the townsfolk to hide in this hideout while we battle outside. It would greatly reduce the risk of our enemies killing the NPCs and thus reduce the percentage of defeat on our part."
The others exchanged glances and acknowledged that Ragnarok Reaper had a point.
"Then what do you propose?" Doom Harbinger asked.
Ragnarok Reaper was silent for a moment before he answered seriously, "I want to propose a contract with him."
Fighting Bunny’s eyes popped. "What? After all that he did?"
"As much as I want to make him pay for what he did, it was better to form an alliance with these players," said Ragnarok Reaper. "Think about it, we have these player on our side, we could access that underground, and we will have these players reinforced our ranks."
Fighting Bunny grumbled under her breath. "Hmm . . . well, you do have a point, but . . . I’m just not comfortable having strangers in our ranks."
"It’s a risk that we must take, given our situation right now," said Doom Harbinger.
"Then I guess you approve of this plan too?" Eclipse said.
Doom Harbinger shrugged. "What else are our options here?"
Eclipse bored his eyes into the others before he released a breath. "Then it’s settled."
Fighting Bunny hesitated, but she didn’t have any choice but to follow the majority. "Fine. I will summon everyone in the square."
She then went to the door.
However, the moment she opened it, a mysterious robed figure appeared right before her.
"Gah!" Fighting Bunny recoiled in shock. "W-who are you?"
Everyone’s eyes were fixed on the newly arrived creature whose face they couldn’t decipher because of the white robe it was wearing, the hood covering its face.
Upon checking its name, they were surprised to find that it was blurred out. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
"Who are you?" Ragnarok Reaper asked while the others readied their weapons.
Xin entered casually because he knew that there was no PvP inside towns, so he was safe. "My name is not important, but I am the player that you’re looking for."
The others exchanged glances, but they didn’t lower their weapons.
"How do we even know that you’re a player to begin with?" Fighting Bunny questioned.
"Try and attack me, and it wouldn’t work," Xin said matter-of-factly.
In a blink, Eclipse appeared behind Xin’s back and sliced his blade on his neck, but the system warning immediately came through, preventing his blade from even closing on his skin.
"See?"
Eclipse teleported back to where the others were and sheathed his weapon. "Are you really the player that we’re looking for?"
"I’m the one who killed Salathiir and had the NPCs go underground with Poppy’s help," replied Xin.
The others finally sheathed their weapons. Ragnarok Reaper stepped forward and faced him.
"Are you alone?"
Xin nodded.
"What is your name?"
"You can call me X," Xin said, silently thanking that the robe had a feature to blur out his name.
Fighting Bunny snorted. "Are you sure you’re alone? I find it hard to believe that you alone could defeat that dragon. What did you even do to make Poppy do as you said? Did you max your relationship level with her?"
Xin was keenly aware that Fighting Bunny was low key interrogating him.
"Is that important?" Xin replied, not divulging any details. "What I did to kill the dragon and gain Poppy’s favor is none of your concern."
"It is our concern because you have illegally broken into our ranks here. We could sue you," said Doom Harbinger.
Xin wasn’t fazed. "You wouldn’t do that."
"And why wouldn’t we?" Ragnarok Reaper asked. If they could intimidate him and have him join their ranks, then the better.
Though he had to give it to X. He exposed himself in their room full of guild leaders without fear. What was his purpose in doing so? Ragnarok Reaper couldn’t help but asked himself.
Xin stared at them seriously, and spoke in an even voice. "Then you won’t be able to get back the rewards, some of Salathiir’s rewards, and wouldn’t be able to direct the NPCs to go underground."
Heavy silence descended.
Ragnarok Reaper took a deep breath.
Eclipse scratched his nose, unbothered.
Doom Harbinger frowned, and Fighting Bunny growled.
"Hoi! Now that you have exposed yourself, give us back our rewards! Do you think that you can just get out of here now that you have exposed yourself to us?!"
"I will give it back," said Xin coolly, "but I’m not here just to give you some of the rewards."
"Some?" Doom Harbinger raised an eyebrow.
"Since I killed the Salathiir and saved the NPCs, and by doing so, saved you from an imminent defeat, isn’t it only right that half of the rewards goes to me? Don’t you think?"
"You . . ." Fighting Bunny was about to storm Xin when Ragnarok Reaper stopped her.
"What do you want exactly?"
"Simple, I just want to enter your group, officially at least. And that you wouldn’t, in any form, harass me or sue me after all of this is over."
