Reborn as a Mind-Reading Empress-Chapter 1049
Beyond his control. No matter how much he denied it. Elrond, Raymond, and all the others who had found their mates said they would know immediately even if they denied.
It was exactly what happened with Ferdinand. The first time he met Arabella, he somehow felt and knew it was her. It immediately crossed his mind that it was her. His mate. His denials led to nothing and he did everything he could so they would be wed.
Admittedly now, he realized he had been too impatient and rash about it and caused Arabella a heartbreak she did not deserve. He only had himself to blame at how coldly she had treated him, only doing the bare minimum of respect required of her, when she first arrived here.
Thankfully, she had a warm and soft heart and found it in her to forgive and accept him. Now, Arabella had repeatedly assured him she loved him too and was willing to go with him to Estrella to spend the rest of their life there.
And yet, there is still something important he should know but had forgotten. He could not remember it and asking Elrond did not yield any results either. Elrond only told him to be patient and let time flow naturally and everything will reveal itself.
Ferdinand had kept asking himself, "What was it?" What am I forgetting?" Sometimes he wanted to ask Arabella about it but he felt like he should not be asking her these questions so he never did. He avoided thinking about in her presence except in times when she was busy noticing or hearing him.
Like now for instance. It was not in the plan for Ferdinand to head here today. But Ferdinand missed her. He suddenly wanted to see Arabella and could not wait until their next scheduled reunion which was on the weekend. Ferdinand could not sit still so he completed all his tasks for today and asked to be teleported to the palace.
When he went to Arabella’s room, she was not there. Nor in her office. Her maids were nowhere, likely having retired for the night already. Since it was already late at night. Ferdinand contacted Rendell since he was the one assigned to guard Arabella tonight.
{ Rendell, where is my wife? } There was a few seconds of silence before Rendell responded.
{ She is in the garden, Your Majesty. Should I inform her of your arrival? } Rendell asked.
{ No need. I’ll go there myself. } ’What is she doing at the garden at this time of the night? It’s gotten colder too,’ Ferdinand wondered. ’Don’t tell me she is picking flowers?’
Arabella’s family had already warned him that she had this excessive love for flowers. That she could go out even in winter just to see one that still blooms despite the weather and go out at night to see the flowers that bloom through the moonlight.
He wondered if tonight was one of those nights. He hastened his pace and went to the part of the garden Rendell told him. And there she was, in the middle of the flower garden indeed, clad in a black dress and shoes as she picked white flowers.
Rendell stood a good distance away as her guard. He silently bowed in his direction when he arrived while Arabella remained clueless as she was focused on what she was doing. Ferdinand gazed at her lovingly as she kept picking them and placing them in her basket.
She was beautiful under the moonlight. Especially as she smiled when she found a particularly pretty bloom. She looked like a flower fairy enjoying the results of her hard work nurturing a flower garden and gathering a few blooms to commemorate it.
Ferdinand had lived long enough to have coexisted when fairies were the size of the humans now. And seeing Arabella’s delight in the flowers could not help but remind him of them. She looked like one, after all, except without their wings.
Flower fairies lived in flower abodes. They cultivate flowers, live in them, eat some, drink its nectar, and smell like them. Ferdinand realized that Arabella smelled like flower fairies. Perhaps, it was due to her love for flowers that their scent was always on her too. It suited him though so Ferdinand had no complaints at all.
Ferdinand continued watching as Arabella had finally completed her flower gathering. He was wide-eyed when she sat on the lawn without anything to cover it. It was fine if it was him doing it since all his clothes were much thicker than hers. Compared to others, Arabella’s clothes were already made of thick high quality fibers but it was still too thin for Ferdinand’s taste. If it was up to him, he would have her clothed with the same thickness of clothes he had.
But when he talked about with Raymond, Raymond said he once wanted to do the same for Clarisse but Clarisse got angry and told him that his clothes were too thick and heavy for her, that if she had to wear one as heavy as his, she would rather lay in bed all day and never go out.
Raymond then explained that it was due to the difference of strength. This stopped Ferdinand from his plans. But he could not help but think about it in times like this. He was worried some of the grasses would prick Arabella’s soft skin or some bugs would bite her.
Ferdinand himself did not like leaving any mark on her delicate skin, so how dare a bug do it freely?
{ Rendell, if she comes to the garden without her maids, you must retrieve something for her to sit on when she does this. } Ferdinand instructed.
{ Yes, Your Majesty! My apologies for not thinking ahead. } Rendell responded. { Should I go and retrieve one now? }
{ Yes. I will be here with her anyway. Do not disturb her and just go. } Ferdinand instructed.
Arabella was so focused on what she was doing that even Ferdinand did not dare disturb her. She might not even hear him even if he tried to talk to her now.
