Chapter 402: 402

“Thank you, master, for giving us the chance to make a fortune.” War Horizon was waiting for these words. He didn’t want to relinquish what he had painstakingly obtained to Li Yao.

Where he was, he had no room to resist. Even if he managed to grasp the treasure and risked his life to return, if people came to know about it back home, he would still not be able to keep his treasure.

“Master, it’s nothing less than a treasure. Are you sure you’re not tempted?” Light Flower asked in bewilderment.

“Temptation… who can resist the lure of a treasure? Of course, if it were a real treasure, I would have rushed for it by now.” Li Yao responded indifferently.

The desperate-to-bolt Light Flower was stunned and said, “Are you saying… this treasure is a hoax? How is that possible?”

“Then what?” Li Yao laughed, “Tell me, is this the Titan’s relics?”

“Did you not mention that this labyrinth was constructed by the Mechanical Gnomes and is not the actual Titan’s relics?” Light Flower asked.

“Exactly, the Mechanical Gnomes are essentially like genuine gnomes. For them, gold doesn’t only serve as a currency, but also is a valuable metallic material. They would not possibly mold an entire palace out of it,” Li Yao stated firmly, “Moreover, they wouldn’t employ these precious gemstones for frivolous accomplishments. Even the Titans only constructed palaces with stonework and models made of stardust sand. Above all, these gold and the likes were formed post the restructuring of this world by the Titans.”

Light Flower’s eyes shone as she said, “I understand now. If they possessed these materials, they would definitely utilize them to enhance these mechanical monsters. They wouldn’t be this weak then.”

“Clever. If they indeed possessed such amounts of gold and gemstones, they would have been capable of forming an invincible legion. They wouldn’t have allowed us to intrude, forcing them to retreat.” Li Yao affirmed.

“So, what about this gold and diamonds?” Light Flower was clearly puzzled.

“They are mere illusions.” Ephemeral Bloom declared.

Light Flower was even more puzzled and said, “But they feel exactly like real gold.”

“It’s up to you; if you don’t believe, you can collect at will. I, in no way, am stopping you.” Li Yao shrugged his shoulders nonchalantly.

“I believe in you, master. Whatever master says, I will blindly adhere to it. I have seen the tactics of Li Yao, I believe in his wisdom. Without impending danger, Li Yao would have certainly let these so-called masters in.”

In her view, Li Yao was neither a saint nor a samaritan. He wouldn’t open doors for others, only to end up working for nothing in return.

“So, what are we supposed to do?” asked Light Flower.

“Wait, and do nothing.” Having said that, Li Yao ceased to speak further.

Following their conversation, everyone entered the palace already. The palace was in a state of total chaos; everyone was after the treasure.

Some people even started fighting over a particular gemstone. At this moment, the true nature of these intelligent beings was exposed.

To these treasure-grabbing people, the concepts of race and factions were nonsensical. Same for the players – what’s the point of the penalties from failing protection tasks when they could get rich by having these items?

Gold was hard to pry loose, so the precious gemstones were the center of conflicts. The scope of the melee was growing wider. It took less than five minutes for the palace to turn into a battleground.

“I’ve called War Horizon several times, but he doesn’t respond.” Light Flower said anxiously.

“If he doesn’t want to respond, then stop obstructing him from attaining riches.” Li Yao replied, unbothered.

For someone who wouldn’t listen to him, Li Yao naturally wouldn’t be concerned about their safety. He was not their nanny.

They were supposed to protect him, but now he was worried for them. What a joke.

“It’s not good, War Horizon is being attacked, he wants us to rescue him.” Light Flower murmured, slightly anxious.

“I don’t have room for a hothead who wants to go to war over some mud lumps; go if you are willing to.” Ephemeral Bloom shrugged.

Little Cold Hands also whimsically stated, “I don’t feel like risking my life for these illusions. It feels so stupid.”

Light Flower hesitated a bit before saying, “Master…”

Li Yao gestured with his hand and said, “I won’t put in efforts to save a fool. Can I rely on such a person to protect me in crucial situations? When I was explaining, he didn’t even bother to keep a distance. If, having heard our analysis, he still acts stubbornly, he deserves what he gets”

“Master is right.” Light Flower sighed.

Five of them came, all were experts. Yet Art-of-the-horizon wasn’t wise enough, hoping that Li Yao would risk his life so that he could survive. However, Li Yao didn’t die, it was him who was killed instead.

While War Horizon was generally quite clever, right now he was being incredibly dumb, risking it all for a non-existent fortune. Such stupidity was beyond belief.

On second thought, this master was sharp and ruthless. Even if he made a wrong judgment, a big fight would inevitably ensue, at which point wouldn’t more treasures be there for the taking?

“Master, save me.”

War Horizon kept releasing stone walls to resist the crowd chasing him, but spells still continuously landed on him.

He released his damage reduction skill, but even so, his health was running very low.

Li Yao remained indifferent, standing where he was, showing no intention of moving an inch. The three players didn’t move either. Only Light Flower started healing War Horizon.

However, War Horizon’s health was already quite low. Faced with the countless spells, including those from the masters, he eventually fell, only about thirty yards away from where Li Yao was standing.

“Hand over the treasure.”

“Yes, hand over the treasure.”

The masters, backed by a bunch of players, pointed at Li Yao and demanded.

Li Yao didn’t reply; he just brandished his double swords.

Sword Qi Slash!

Whoosh, whoosh, whoosh…

Those masters and players never expected Li Yao to fight back right then, completely caught off-guard, with no time to dodge the Sword Qi.

In an instant, at least a dozen players were immediately killed, and the health of several masters dropped by tens of thousands.

“Stay back if you don’t want to die; anyone who takes a step forward will be killed.” Li Yao scanned the masters with a dispassionate gaze and then leisurely hanged his weapons onto the puppet.

Instantly, the players all wilted, completely defenseless against such a freak. They hastily retreated.

Several masters shot Li Yao a hateful look, then turned around and continued to snatch new treasures.

“As I thought, just a bunch of trash. No wonder they were only cannon fodder.” Li Yao sneered.

Light Flower heart pounded, losing two levels due to dying here. They would also suffer the penalty of mission failure. These players were in hot water.

“War Horizon pleads for my pity not to consider his mission as a failure.” Light Flower said after a while. “This is his suggestion. I am just conveying it.”

“It turns out he found out that the stuff in his backpack was just stones. Such fools aren’t worth the sympathy. Served them right for straying away, still hoping to get rewarded, they daydreamt. Their rewards will now be distributed to you.” Li Yao shook his head.

“Stop fighting, it’s fake. The treasure is fake.”

“This is a hoax. We’ve been deceived.”
