MIGHT AS WELL BE OP-Chapter 992: A Lie
At this moment, everyone had returned back to the cloud where they all floated and discussed amongst one another, the emotions which had been high from Lucian’s backlash had now reduced, and everyone was talking normally, all that remained was for Aaaninja to wake up, and at this moment, over three hours had already passed since he fainted.
But nobody was seriously concerned about his current state and condition, since Anthony had already said nothing was wrong, then nothing was wrong, Aaaninja was just unconscious, besides, there were still seven hours left on the timeline Anthony had given them earlier, all they had to do was just wait a few more hours.
"Come on, just tell me about the ability you used, how did you even create such an ability?" Vega asked Lucian, who was seated near them as they waited for Aaaninja.
"Indeed, tell us, since Anthony and Aaaninja can now save you, will you use the ability again?" Veronica chimed in, she, who had been crying and sad earlier, was now back to normal as they were all curious about the ability Lucian had used.
"And what about that book? It was all blurry, but you wrote something in it, and suddenly Aaaninja was decapitated," Aura Nova chimed in.
At this moment, Altheria was the only woman within the younger generation who didn’t speak as she was seated beside Aaaninja’s unconscious body as she stared at him with pure love and emotion. She couldn’t be curious about some dumb, stupid ability at the moment when the love of her life lay unconscious before her.
Lucian sighed, he could feel a headache forming as the girls bombarded him with questions, although neither Anthony nor Kingsley had asked him any questions about that last ability, he could see that they were just as curious as the girls, besides, those from the older generation were also listening with subtle yet unmistakable attention.
Lucian didn’t know what to say, as he couldn’t just reveal the truth about the ability. Aaaninja might be able to say the truth about his own ability, but he couldn’t, as those were two entirely different matters with different consequences and implications.
"Sigh... I can’t say anything, as even I didn’t know the details of the ability until the moment I used it, even now, I still don’t know anything concrete about it. The moment I used it, I understood it, and now that I’m not using it, I have no memory of it," Lucian decided to lie rather than not say anything at all due to the endless pestering.
Of course, beings at their level could see through lies with their normal perceptions without the use of abilities, and they also possessed abilities that could directly detect deception. But just as they had that, Lucian also had an ability that allowed him to project his lies as truth and mask the truth as lies, blurring the boundary between authenticity and fabrication.
As for how he had gotten such an ability, he had drawn inspiration to create it because Anthony had possessed a similar ability since the early Chapters of the book when he went on his First Impossible Mission within the Star Academy.
Hence, almost everyone believed him, but people like Anthony with his All Seeing Eyes, Vega with her Eyes Of The Universe, Amara with her Cause and Effect ability, and Klaus with his unfathomable perception saw through the lie with ease, but decided not to say anything, after all, one’s abilities were literally their trump cards and ultimate safeguards.
Aura Nova and the rest believed Lucian as they hadn’t seen through the lie, but they didn’t stop asking questions, "but why didn’t you use it against Anthony? I’m sure you remember how the battle between you and Anthony was, and how one sided it was, why didn’t you use this ability to turn the tide?" Aura Nova asked as she genuinely wanted to know, her curiosity surpassing even her competitive side.
Lucian sighed again before he replied, "I’ve always said this since the beginning, defeating Anthony is hopeless, Aaaninja was my main goal, hence the reason I didn’t use the ability against Anthony but against Aaaninja, and mainly because the ability was a one time use ability," he explained calmly, though his eyes held a depth that suggested there was more left unsaid.
His words caught everyone off guard, but at the same time, their eyes flickered in understanding. Such an ability was so overwhelmingly powerful that he had to pay with his life for it, it was understandable that he couldn’t ever use such an ability again in his life. Besides, if Lucian could throw out such an ability whenever he wanted, didn’t that mean that they were all finished before they even began.
"But the main reason I didn’t use it against Anthony is because I feel like no matter how powerful the ability is, it might not work against Anthony," Lucian added in finality, his tone neither exaggerated nor doubtful, but strangely certain.
His words caused almost everyone to pause again, they couldn’t help but feel like Lucian was glazing Anthony far too much at this point, even Aura Nova felt that way, after all, why wouldn’t such an ability work against Anthony, what kind of existence was he in Lucian’s eyes.
But unknown to them, it wouldn’t work against only Anthony, it also wouldn’t work against Vega, Klaus, and Amara, but the three of them said nothing, as they wouldn’t reveal the true depths of their bloodlines just for a fleeting moment of validation or attention.
"What a bummer, only if you could use the ability again, I wanted to see how Anthony would resist and survive," Aura Nova said with a sigh, half disappointed and half intrigued by the possibilities that would now never unfold.
Everyone smiled at her words as they all felt the same, they all wanted to see how Anthony would survive and why Lucian seemed to hold him in such high regard at every possible opportunity, as though acknowledging a wall that could not be scaled.
Although Aura Nova was quiet afterward, her mind was already working at an astonishing speed to see how she could recreate such an ability, but even she doubted herself, her own ability felt insufficient and too limited to replicate and comprehend something of this magnitude, something that transcended logic and conventional frameworks.
Her gaze turned towards Lucian as she spoke, "oh, and congratulations on your win, I guess you’ve achieved your ultimate goal for being here," she stated, her tone carrying both sincerity and subtle competitiveness.
Lucian smiled as he spoke, "thank you," a smirk forming on his face. Just because Aaaninja had fainted while trying to save him didn’t mean he no longer felt good about his win, after all, he had imagined this moment for three long years, replaying countless scenarios in his mind where he would finally stand victorious.
But he knew he couldn’t get complacent, everyone was progressing during the spar at an outrageous rate, evolving in ways that defied expectation, and he was certain Aaaninja wouldn’t let this loss slide so easily, especially not after being pushed to such an extreme.
