Apocalypse: Hero of Potato Fields-Chapter 391 - 374: A Special Family
Rather than calling it a marketplace, it would be more accurate to say it's a street with many activities.
There are various stalls selling all kinds of snacks, along with dance floors, small stages, and more.
Every evening, people come here to stroll around, and it's getting more and more lively.
"Ah!" Rein exclaimed in surprise when Lin Yi took her hand.
"There are a lot of people here, stick close to me, otherwise you might get lost."
"Okay..." the girl replied happily and softly.
They walked along the street, tasting food from different cultures.
Then watched a boxing match.
After that, they participated in a new activity: aerial dancing.
The Wind Mage created a weightless-like area where dancers tied small wooden blocks to their feet, allowing them to walk in the air.
Mages in the Shelter have been delving into books looted from vampires and learned many new skills.
The Wind Mage focused on levitation techniques.
The Earth Mage studied minerals, various stones, and more, so they could build stronger walls.
Aerial dancing was odd and a bit awkward, but Rein loved it.
After dancing, they chatted with a group of Earth Mages who were creating couple statues.
These statues were somewhat like portraits, but made from stone, clay, marble, and many other materials.
Rein was thrilled when she got her statue, which depicted a man and a woman standing side by side, holding hands.
After that, they discovered another interesting project: some Water Mages were creating water columns topped with wooden platforms.
The trick was to jump from one platform to another and reach the other side.
Rein didn't want to try because she was wearing a dress, but Lin Yi was happy to give it a go.
When people saw the boss. easily reach the other side, many wanted to try as well, but actually only about one-fifth managed to succeed.
Standing on water columns was difficult, and some columns even moved up and down, or swayed left and right.
At the end of the street, there was a music concert with Katsya performing as usual.
This petite white-haired girl had many fans; she was an amazing singer and kept improving every day.
Lin Yi and Rein sat a bit away from the crowd, as did many couples.
"Katsya sings so well..." Rein said as she looked at the stage, sitting with Lin Yi on a bench under a tree.
"She practices a lot, and she's also talented. If she becomes a Professional, she'll gain some attributes, and her presence will become stronger. I don't know why she's so stubborn..."
"She's afraid of zombies. Seeing just one zombie on TV is enough to terrify her."
"So what?" Lin Yi said, puzzled.
He turned to Rein, "If she doesn't dare to look at zombies, she can kill a mutated animal or a robot; she's not afraid of robots, right?"
"You're too smart, boss!" Rein really wanted to help her friend.
Since Lin Yi saved them, they hadn't talked much, but Rein still considered her a friend.
"She could've directly asked for help... She could've reached Level 10 long ago..."
Lin Yi shook his head and looked back at the stage.
Katsya's body was very frail, but she had become healthier and stronger in the Shelter.
"Boss..." Rein said with a serious yet awkward expression.
"I know." Lin Yi sighed.
He didn't particularly enjoy conversations like these.
These talks always reminded him of his first love and a series of other challenging moments in his life.
"You and I have a Level 3 bond."
Rein's eyes sparkled, objectively affirming her feelings.
This meant her love for Lin Yi wasn't just "ordinary adolescent infatuation," as Annie described.
"But you also see the level of my bond with you, so you understand my feelings."
"Right, until the end of the apocalypse, you're not considering a serious relationship."
They watched the concert in silence, after which Lin Yi took Rein home before returning to his work.
He looked over several reports on the army's situation and finally checked the forms on the interesting new members.
[Alert!]
Chen Youyou→Lin Yi's bond level increased.
Current level: Level 2.
Telepathic connection established.
Lin Yi discovered several intriguing forms.
He picked up the forms, teleported to his laptop, and opened the Level 5 employee application.
"The Kalbovich family, all system users with unique skills.
[Konstantin Kalbovich, Level 13]
Skill: (Unique) Sea Monster...
[Corina Kalbovich, Level 12]
Skill: (Unique) Wind Master...
[Amy Kalbovich, Level 10]
Skill: (Unique) Dome.
"This is an interesting family; how on earth did they manage this?"
As he looked through other forms, Lin Yi found another intriguing figure.
He was the leader of a gang of orphans.
This kid had a very rare skill and was an experienced warrior.
[Rudolph, Level 11]
Skill: (Rare) Beast Spirit Walker, Level 3.
There's a note: Hunts to feed the children, has a strong sense of responsibility, smart and cautious.
Looks like I'll be able to meet this kid after the operation is over.
Lin Yi didn't go to bed until 12:30 AM, but as soon as he got undressed and slipped into his cozy queen-sized bed, someone knocked on the door.
As soon as he opened the door, a girl clad only in a bathrobe dove into his arms.
It was Chen Youyou.
She said nothing, kissed him passionately, and pulled him towards the bed.
After getting into bed, she finally calmed down and took off her robe, and what came next... truly surprised him.
Under the robe was a white shirt with buttons and white thigh-high socks.
She was also wearing a collar, a Regeneration Necklace that could speed up the body's recovery.
Chen Youyou launched a "surprise attack"!
~~~~~~
Near Water Crane Ark.
Late night.
Fires lit up sequentially on the four mountains.
The flames leapt high and bright, clearly visible even from other mountains.
When the bonfire on the last of the four mountains was ignited, the fires on the other mountains were extinguished.
The action had begun!
The warriors who had been healing in the past few days and were now almost fully recovered launched an assault.
This operation was planned and coordinated by Wind Academy.
The action resulted in the loss of eleven students, but they successfully transmitted messages from various academies and devised an attack plan after receiving replies.
They decided to launch the attack late at night, just before sunrise, because that was when the General would least expect to be attacked.
Wind Academy had staged a feint attack beforehand to draw the General's troops away from the mountains.
"We spent nearly a million Coins on those explosives..." A short, bedraggled Shuijin man lamented.
The gold threads and patterns on his dirty white clothes indicated that he was a city bureaucrat responsible for overseeing trade-related affairs.
"Without cannons, these explosives are not of much use," an elderly man with a pitch-black appearance said,
then turned around and asked the student, "Is everything ready?"
"Yes, teacher!" A senior student replied, his fur as black as the night.
If not for the lamp's light reflecting in his eyes, he would have been almost imperceptible.
"Then we wait for the target to appear and commence the action." The elder nodded and walked out of the special warehouse where the dangerous items were stored.
The warehouse was guarded by a solid large door and thick walls.
Survivors inside the warehouse included 251 city army soldiers and 600 civilians.
They were all extremely hungry and exhausted.
All those incapable of fighting had been hidden far away, and this place was about to turn into a hellish nightmare.
"They're coming! About five thousand Zombies are trailing them!" reported a Guard.
"Ready yourselves!" the elder shouted and then jumped onto a twelve-meter-high wall.
He could clearly see the Zombies running down a street, chasing after three senior students.
There were some undead creatures on the way, but the students dodged them as nimbly as petals carried by the Wind.
As soon as they reached their destination, many burning Arrows were shot from the wall, followed by a series of explosions as loud as thunderclaps.
Within seconds, half of the street was destroyed by the blasts.
Then the flames roared...
Most of the pursuers were blown to pieces, but that wasn't the main goal of the Water Crane People.
While killing the enemy was beneficial,
in a force of one million... or even two million Zombies, what significance did a few thousand have?
All the Zombies in the city and those swarming at the city walls quickly headed toward the explosion site, and shortly thereafter, half of the army besieging the four mountains followed.
The sound of explosions was continuous.
The squad responsible for the diversion attack had set many traps, depleting all their explosives.
After the explosion sounds gradually faded, the battle to defend the city walls of the warehouse began.
All Shuijin people understood that they had almost no chance of survival.
In fact, one hundred warriors, including eleven teachers and eighty-nine senior students, were aware that this was a suicide mission, but they chose to participate willingly for the sake of saving their people.
The soldiers hiding in the warehouse also decided to sacrifice their lives. They preferred to die for a noble cause rather than die pointlessly from hunger and fear.
"Ahhh!" A soldier screamed as a Water Crane Zombie bit into his neck.
The Zombie had climbed the wall within seconds and saw him looking elsewhere.
They were now Level 2!
So this is what the Zombie General had been waiting for! The black-furred elder realized this.
"Everyone listen up! We retreat to the courtyard! Move quickly!"
More Undead Monkey People appeared, and the soldiers swiftly withdrew from the wall.
They were Level 2 Water Crane Zombies!
Only Level 2 or higher Zombies could fully exploit the potential of a Water Crane person's body.
Level 2 Zombies effortlessly climbed onto the wall, then charged at the defenders like water spilling over the edge of a brimming bathtub.
However, they were met with attacks from Arrows and Wind Academy Magic. Many Zombies were shredded into pieces before they even reached the ground.
Meanwhile, at the foot of the four mountains, a bloody battle was occurring fiercely. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
The academies seized the opportunity when half of the undead creatures left the city to launch a fierce assault.
The best warriors took on the strongest mutant creatures, while the students eliminated the smaller fry.
None of them thought about conserving their Magic Power; now was not the time for holding back.
~~~~~~
"Get up, Rein! Hurry, sleepyhead! Wake up! We're going to be late!"
"Let me sleep for another minute, Oli..." A drowsy voice came from beneath the covers.
"No way! You say that every time, and then I have to wake you up again!"
"Then half a minute..." Rein's sleepy face peeked out from under the blanket.
"No!" Orianna said in an uncompromising tone and pulled the blanket off.
"You get yourself all riled up before bed, then you have all sorts of absurd dreams and don't sleep well!"
"How do you know?!" Rein gasped in surprise, fully awake all of a sudden.
"It would be nice if your mumbling while you sleep was a little quieter!" Orianna grumbled. She was fed up with being kept awake all night.
"Oh..." Rein covered his face in shame.
"You might as well just go to him and make your dreams a reality instead of just dreaming.
Go wash up! You wouldn't want to eat breakfast with dark circles, would you?"
"I don't want to!"
